My wife went turkey hunting with me a couple times, but hasn't went the past couple years and I don't ask anymore. She's not really into it so I see no need of pressing the issue. My 8 year old daughter and 7 year old son like it. My daughter will be deer hunting in a few weeks during the IL youth season! Me and the wife always have fly fishing!
I'll bet you'll find him tomorrow!
Best of luck to you!
Sounds like he was hunting you!
Buckee bait... (none for me thanks).
When you find him make sure you don't cut your head off in the picture.:clown:
Even if you don't find him, your effort is to be commended.
Back in the early 80's seeing any deer in IL. was an exciting thing for most folks. A deer was something you didn't see every day.
Now we see deer just about every day and although I still get excited, no one else does. I must say though seeing a big buck with huge antlers still gets everyone excited. Why, because it is rare just like seeing "any" type of deer was years ago.
We humans tend to get more excited over things that are rare.
Already started huh! Oh how I envy you!
I'm going out tomorrow to hang a stand. I'm taking it easy on my best spots until November. It's hard to do, but hopefully will pay off. October 10 and 11 is our youth season. I didn't think to enter my daughter, she's 8 and this will be her first time deer hunting.
Can't speak to the Kodiak but I do have a Genesis. It is camo and stainless. I bought it new from Cabela's last December new for 199.00. I've practiced out to 70 yards with it (the max of the range I use: my dads yard). I have a Leupold Ultimate Slam on it and it is very accurate. It's the only ML I've ever owned so I have nothing to compare it to, but I have no desire to buy anything else.
So when does everyone start deer hunting?
In IL. we go from October 1st till mid-January.
I'm trying out a new area this year. Public ground about an hour away. I'll be using a small boat to get to the hunting locations. First time I've ever used a boat to deer hunt.
Depends,
If the snow is only an inch or two and no ice underneath I'd take snow. Ice scraping is the worst backbreaking job around. Grass cutting used to be fun, but with dogs it means cleaning the yard prior to cutting and on occasion I miss some that the mover makes a mess of. Once I get a big enough yard to justify a riding mower grass cutting will win.
What he said!
I've used the copper solids for many years now and switched this season to my smooth bore 20 guage that shoots rifled slugs. I didn't mind the punch to the arm, but can't take the punch to the wallet any more! At 15 dollars + for a box of 5 it takes me 30 dollars to sight it in and practice. Then another 45 for hunting.
I'd sight it in with the type of shell you'll be hunting with.
Awesome harvest!
Congratulations and glad to hear you're getting your daugter involved.
Might want to do a search there have been several posts this past year on youth bows.
