  1. Saw about a dozen tonight. I missed the gobbler at 30 yards (archery). I was deer hunting. Have been seeing a lot of turkey's this year. One hen was roosted when I walked in at 3:30pm. She was jumping around in the top of a tree as if she couldn't decide on the right branch. Then she started clucking and here they all came. Had three hens right under me.
  2. Too sad! I taught my kids gun safety at 6 years of age. I also keep my guns locked up.
  3. My dad has 2 out buildings. One is not used for anything so we do the work in it. It is not heated, so I bring in a propane heater if it is real cold. We have some work tables and a system in place for processing. I did my first one a couple weeks ago by myself and had it skinned, de-boned (including a few roasts), and the rest ground into burger in 2 hours time. Cleaning the grinder is the biggest pain! Did that in the house and it took me an additional 20 minutes.
  4. Depends on where I'm at and how long of a walk I have. On private ground i like to be in the stand 20-30 minutes prior to the break of dawn. On public ground I like to be in the stand an hour prior to the break of dawn. I'm too concerned that some joker will be out there and shoot me. I figure the jokers will not be out a whole hour prior to first light.
  5. I use the cat comb. Not sure about the green ones, but this year my pants got soaked walking out and I waited until they dried. The little brown burrs came off a little easier after being wet then drying. Duck tape sounds like a good idea. I'll have to try that.
  6. Doing that much walking will make a lot of people's feet sweat. Moisture wicking socks will help keep the moisture away from your feet, but the outer sock will still get damp. I don't know of anything to stop it, except changing socks.
  7. I've got a couple just over 30 feet, but nothing near 40! The life lines on the market are only 30 feet long. Amazing he was treated and released. Had a MO redident in the hospital last week from a 20 foot treestand fall. Messed his legs up bad! He climbed the steps, and was about to hook his safety harness up and fell prior to hooking up.

    Is this true??

Can't imagine that to be true???? Bucks/males are generally more muscular than does and since we eat muscle....
  9. I bought a tru-glo red dot for my smooth bore remington wingmaster 20 G for 60 bucks. I really like it so far. This will be the first year using it in the field. My gun shoots slugs consistent, but high. The red dot allows me to adjust since my gun only has a beed on the end of the barrel. I'm more accurate with it than I am with my rifled barrel 870 express 12 G.
  10. Right on William! I never let my kids roast while waiting. Tylenol and Motrin are the way to go. Remember folks, no Aspirin for kids!
  11. What a brute! Congratulations Rod. Did you green score him yet? Looks like he'll make typical or non-typical P&Y? Weird seeing those muley forks on a whitetail. How about a weight? Were you shaking when he walked up or what?
  12. Sorry to hear about your bad luck! Happens to nearly all of us. Glad to see you're doing everything to recover the deer. No need for an apology just get back out there and get another one.

    Got Me a 7pt

Congratulations Chris! Got any other pictures?
  14. 2001 Ford F-150 Supercrew2001 Coachman Catalina light 26 footer The ATV is not mine (my ATV is in the second picture). Notice how the motor is showing off!
  15. The open shot is great for long hikes but the viper is easier to climb with. I have both, the viper is better for longer hunts and the open shot is ideal for those 2-3 hour hunts with a long walk in. I bought the Viper Ultra (Cabelas exclusive). Big sale right now $229.00 and you get an E-Z hanger, foot rest, and monsterbuck video. I bought it and used it this past week. I just keep the seat section close to the foot section so when I stand my bow clears the bar easily. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21404-cat601662-cat280017_TGP&id=0057204418570a&navCount=0&podId=0057204&parentId=cat280017&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true
  16. I'll say 123 gross for the 8 point and 137 gross for the 10 point. Great bucks, but with a bit more mass they would be really great.
  17. Yea Stone this is why I'm loosing my private hunting ground here in IL next year. Too many outfitters seeing these IL. monsters. Oh well, I guess I better make this year count.
  18. As always I'd say the first 2 weeks of November. I'm not seeing signs of the pre-rut that would need to be there by now for an October rut.

    Doe Down!

Congratulations and I've been there. Doubt it is the release. How high were you off the ground? If you're more than 12 feet the shot angle could be why you are hitting high. Do you practice at the height you hunt from? I practice at 20 feet but some of my stands are at 30+ feet. When I hunt the high ones I have to adjust by 5 yards or I'm high on every shot. My 10 yard pin at 12-20 feet high is my 15 yard pin in my higher stands. My 20 yard pin at 12-20 feet high is my 25 yard pin in my higher stands. I always take a practice shot as soon as I'm in the stand to ensure my shots are dialed in.
  20. Congratulations! Is this you're first big one? It took me 20 years of deer hunting to harvest my first big one. I'll never forget how excited I was (just as you appear to be). One of the best feelings in the world isn't it? Once the taxi work was done I'd spend hours laying on the couch looking at it and drifting off to dream land hunting him all over again. Savour the moment and find a good taxi. Also you may want to ask the taxi for the lower jaw bone so you can age it. Looks like at least a 4.5 year old.

    Nice Buck Pics

I'd move Kirk. I doubt that buck is still there.

    Got an issue

Women don't like to be second. A wife is one thing, but a girlfriend is another. A lot of people do things when dating that will not hold over time. Set a precidence now and if she comes around you'll have no worries later. Hunting season is a few months out of the year, she can have you the other months. Good luck!
  23. I'm no taxi, but I'd take the trail cam pictures so the taxi can do his/her best to match it up.
  24. That's great Randy! Steve, what will it take?:clown:
