  1. Welcome to our campfire Jason! Great people here with a lot of knowledge and experience. Good luck to you this fall!
  2. That deer came from Ohio! He had the swine flu and became disoriented. Walked/swam to IL all the way! No way do we have deer like that in IL anymore! Outfitters go to Ohio!
  3. The washers in the middle of the joint bent and the bolt on mine. I just straightened them out and tightened the joint up now it's fine. I may need to replace the bolt in time. I learned to keep the joint tight. To get the E-Z hanger or foot steps into a hardwood the tap method works. I used to use a rubber mallet. If I forget a starting screw I just bring up a thick stick to hammer it in. If I need to be quit I just push hard and twist slowly. Eventually it gets a bite. Another option is the hang it all belt. Just wraps around the tree and snap you have several hooks to hang your stuff. Most of the time my bow is in my hand ready to go.

Why? I would think money would be the answer. I imagine Sticky tags are going to cost more which is why states are getting away from them.
  5. Can't argue with the statistics! A lot of hunters wear harnesses now. More and more every day! However, most accidents happen as you are going up or down the tree! This is the time a lot of safety harness hunters do NOT attach the harness. (Hey, I'm guilty of it sometimes). We get in a hurry and lets face it, using a harness as we climb a ladder or ascend with a climber is a pain. This is why I bought a 30 foot safety line for my ladder stand. I'm always connected that way. I still need to work on using my line-mans belt with my climber as I go up or down, but I'm getting better. Seeing bow hunters messed up on the trauma floor I work on is helping me change my behavior.
  6. Dale that's a sweet looking blind! Some fake tree branches would also help that blind to blend in. However, I don't think you're planning on moving it so after a month or two the deer will be used to it regardless of paint or branches.
  7. Not the bow, broadheads do that. What to do... 1. Sight it in with the broadheads you will use. 2. Find a broadhead that shoots the same (or darn near close) as your field tips. I have a TRX and I use a Rocky Mountain Gator XP - 2 blade expandable. Same idea as the Rage 2-blade. I can't tell a difference between the broadhead and my field points.
  8. Around here we pass on little ones like that. I guess if it was the last day I might pull back on him, but wouldn't shoot. Did I mention I was a compulsive liar? Congratulations to you!

    blinds

Ground blinds are not my thing for hunting deer. I use one for my kids and I could see their use in areas without trees for stands. Perhaps in late winter hunter when the temps drop they could help to keep you more comfortable especially from the wind. For me I like to be mobile and from my experience a blind has to be up for at least a couple weeks or deer will likely be spooked by it. Having a blind up for an extended time means someone might steal it or the weather might damage it. For me there are just too many drawbacks given the areas I hunt. If I had 200 acres of my own land I'd be more inclined to use one. The one I use is the Primos ground max escape. It was about 100 bucks and seems to be holding up well after using it for turkeys this past spring and after using it during the October youth season. http://www.primos.com/groundmax/
  10. I buy what's on sale. Can't see paying 80 dollars for a jacket in RT-AP when I can get it in MO tree stand for 60. My hunting clothes are a mix of seclusion, RT and MO. You'll often notice in my pictures I'll have a RT hat, Seclusion rain jacket, and MO pants. I have no idea what my boots are, some kind of camo.:clown:
  11. Yea Ohio is the place! Now help me get the word out so the outfitter that is leasing my hunting spot next year goes there instead. Would love to even see something like that in the wild! Well over 200 inches of bone there! If I had shot it you better believe I wouldn't let someone else be driving around with it???? Something seems a bit odd.
  12. Nothing at the office could make that guy have a bad day after something like that.
  13. With the owners permission some tire spikes thrown into the path might get the no trespassing point across. Make sure you collect all of them at the end of the season! A big sign posted in the middle of the path might also help.
  14. Congratulations DSGB! I've got a game cart with wheels, but when you have a lot of small creeks and trees to go over I'm thinking that sled would be a better option. Think I'll throw mine in the camper for the shotgun season. Things have been dead lately! Haven't seen a deer the last 4 hunts. Going tomorrow and looks like rain and thunderstorms. My only day till next Tuesday so it looks like I'll be getting wet!
  15. I'd guess close to 100 inches gross.
  16. You da man REM! :toot:
  17. My first thought was 120 gross. Nice deer, but lacking mass. I wouldn't argue with 125, but he will not make 130 inches. I'm thinking he'd miss P&Y so you did great getting the 140 inch with the bow. 3.5 years would be my guess.
  18. Have you had your vision checked lately? As we age our eye sight starts to decline.
  19. Deer movement was OK the first week, then nothing! I have not seen a deer in my past 4 hunts over the last 2 weeks. Corn and beans are still up in a lot of places due to the heavy rains. I'm thinking things will start getting hot some time next week. when most of the fields are harvested and the pre-rut chimes in.
  20. May have hit bone and did a sliding richochet. May have missed vitals even though the shot looked good. Think about the angle and if the shoulder bone might have caused the arrow to slide around instead of pass through? Just another possibility to put out there?
  21. Really good question! I don't know what to say? Some people really get me going! Oh, how do you all like this one I got last March?
  22. Could also be an alien entry hole?:alien:
  23. I'm right there with you all. Been wondering the same thing. Pic below is from a 2 blade RM Gator XP (about the same thing as the rage 2 bade). The broadhead made a 2 inch slice through the heart. Found the deer about 100 yards from the shot spot. Found it 10 minutes after the shot - very dead! However, I never did find a blood trail. At first I thought the failing light may have been why, but after reading these posts I think there just wasn't one. There was blood all over where it fell, but nothing to lead me to it??? I'm sticking with the 2 blade for now though. I may try the 3 blade after reading stories about them here on the forums.
  24. Love to hear these types of stories! I think you look just as happy as the young hunter! Congratulations!
  25. HooooRah! Great job little Miss!:toot:
