  1. Don't get me wrong, I love the feeling of accomplishment that goes with harvesting a deer with a bow. All the practice and thought put into stand placement as well as figuring out how to get close. However, the real kicker for me isn't so much the weapon but the other stuff that goes with bow humnting in IL. A 3 month season, less hunting pressure and less risk of being shot. Experiencing the change of season each week instead of hunting the two weekends of the firearm season. If I could take a gun during archery season I'd likely still take a bow a lot of the time. So am I a die-hard hunter? You bet! A die-hard bow hunter...Not sure on that one.
  2. Maybe you got a reject, because Lacrosse makes the best in my opinion. I like the alpha burley.
  3. What I went with last spring for turkey hunting, worked great.
  4. I'd inform the coach and tournament officials and let them make the decision on allowing him to finish the tournament or not. I see it as your brother has a responsibility to his team. I'd then ground him upon returning from the tournament.

    Turkey question

Interesting, my taxidermist indicated I would get the same freeze dried head back, and that he would fix the pellet holes in the head with putty. He sends the heads to Hazel Creek in Missouri. I put down 150 deposit and it will take about a year and 3 or 4 months to get it back.

    1/2 Life size

You sure are progressing fast. Great work!
  7. Take my family and travel to the most beautiful places on earth. Places like: Yellowstone National Park, Mountains of New Zealand, Beaches of Hawaii (my son wants to see a beach real bad), I'd also like to play the bagpipes in the highlands of Scotland (and visit Ireland for a couple days while there)
  8. 70's here in Illinois and loving it! Cloudy and no humidity! A nice change from the norm if you ask me. Normally this time of year is basically like living in a pro basketball players armpit after a tough game.
  9. 1. My archery Monsterbuck shot in 2006. (161 & 3/8 inches) 2. My largest archery Monsterbuck shot on the last day at last light of the 2007 season. (171 & 2/8 inches) 3. My shotgun Monsterbuck from last November. (131 inches)

    WOW !!

I had no idea I had a diseased mind. Somebody has to thank Robin Patricia Lyles for letting me know since I'm not into facebook. They also need to advise her to contact Saint Louis University because I'm sure they need to have my PhD revoked.
  11. Something like this: The sheds of this buck were found in Nebraska in 1959. The net score was over 218 inches typical. He is known as "The General" and breaks every record.
  12. He looks younger to me, but it could just be because I don't look at too many summer deer photos? I'd say 3.5 years old and he'll go 160 inches gross. Did you all know the Milo Hanson buck (over 213 inches net score) was estimated to be only 3.5-4.5 years old.
  13. I used to buy the deer targets but anymore I use carpet covered straw or cheap foam wally world targets for under 20 dollars that last me one season. Practice arrows only.
  14. I've tried Federal and Winchester. Both shoot high. Perhaps I'll try a few remington's and see what happens. Thanks.
  15. I'd suggest a 5 inch eye relief, don't worry so much about it being listed as a rifle, shotgun, or ML scope. Order one before buying something you don't really want.
  16. I'll bet he turns out a lot like this guy (131 inches)!
  17. I use deer urine to attract deer, not my own. I don't pee near my hunting location unless I have to. Walking away from my stand means creating more noise and that will be worse than scent of human urine in my opinion. Maybe human urine does attract some deer, but then maybe not? Since I'm not sure i just try to avoid it unless I have to.

    Such is life...

Just like all your RT friends I'm sorry to hear it and will be praying for you. BTW... I still can't get over those pictures of those giant musky you posted last year!
  19. Nothing better than smores over an open fire!
  20. Great looking pup! We have a chocolate that just turned one. Best dog around once they get out of the chewing phase.
  21. You'll be in my prayers Steve. Hope things continue to improve for you.
  22. Just got back from vacation, glad you all handled it quickly. I wonder if there could be a temporary lock or something that regular forum members could do that would not allow sick posts like that to be viewed until a moderator reviewed it? just a thought?
  23. Well we made it back from another great trip to the RMNP! What a beautiful place! It may not be Alaska, but sure does get my blood pumping! I've posted pics in the photography room and I'll write about my 12 mile hike on the Poudre river in my blog later. It was an experience right out of the 1800's!
  24. Some pictures of our cabin, our whitewater rafting experience, some elk stopping traffic on trail ridge road, and a little duckling that was trying to break my daughters fishing line. In the rafting picture I'm in the front with my wife, my son (7) is in the middle holding the rope while my daughters (8 and 13) are behind me and my son.
  25. I'll write the story behind this spectacular river in my blog. The river begins from Poudre lake (pictured) and is so narrow it can easily be jumped over. The picture of my family white water rafting (under Colorado - Misc) is actually the Poudre river before it terminates on the Colorado plains.
