  1. I thought it was a TRX. I was thinking a TRX 32, I didn't know they made a 300? Was it an exclusive model for Gander Mountain or something? I've got a 2003 TRX that I still use today. I just had a new string put on it and did some shooting with it yesterday. Man what a difference in speed the new string made! I know, I know, I was pretty lucky to go 5 hunting seasons on the same string and not have it snap. Below is my TRX. It's harvested 2 Pope and Young deer (one of them also went B&C). While trying to find some info on the 300 I found this old relic! http://www.realtree.com/community/feature.php?ID=87 Again congratulations on your first P&Y!
  2. I just looked at the Truth 2 today. I take it you are refering to the young gun model? Cabelas has a package deal for 399.00 which to me seems like a great deal. With adjustable draw lengths 14"-27" you'll get plenty of years out it and it adjusts from 40-50 lbs. I'd say it be about as good as you'll get for a youth bow. I've been shooting Bear bows since I was 16. Bear makes great bows at a reasonable price.
  3. Congratulations! He's a beauty! Must have slipped over the Mississippi from IL. I'd have to agree with your dad. If you have an area to hunt in northern MO I'd be headed there. What kind of bow is in the picture?
  4. May have been too much for the lazy $#@! to carry out or not enough to go back for! Anyway it really is terrible and I'm sorry for you. I hear a few of these incidents each year which is why I generally don't leave anything out in the woods even on private land. I'd love to get a trail camera, but the risk of someone stealing it keeps me from doing so.
  5. A 200 incher walks no question about it. Hunting is too much a part of who I am and I've already got a 171 on the wall. However, if it was a typical 213 6/8 or bigger I'd shoot it, mount it (full body), and then invite Cabela's, Bass Pro, and (the dancing queen: JJL ) to the auction. Bidding would start at 1/2 a million or no sale. I'd then buy a lot of land and manage it for five years for quality animals. That way me and my kids would never have to worry about having a great place to hunt.
  6. It isn't just here at RT that this is happening. I'm seeing the market shift in many places. Outdoor / hunting magazines that test bows are not placing Matthews at the top these days. I'm seeing Hoyt and Bowtech take a commanding lead. The days of the switchback are over and Matthews better start producing a bow that can meet the needs and desires of all hunters and not just speed freaks or this slip will turn into a fall.
  7. I've never been passionate about fishing until I experienced fly fishing for trout. Nothing in the fishing world I've experienced compares to hooking a trout in a mountain stream or lake. Glad to see you're getting "hooked".
  8. Looks great! You did right going with a shoulder mount on that one.
  9. Hope they make it! I read somewhere that the odds are not to good for a turkey to hatch and then grow to adulthood. I believe 1 egg out of 3 nests (30-40 eggs) will actually hatch and survive to the age of 2.
  10. Hi William, I read an interesting article from the DNR in Alaska. According to the aricle the best thing to do is to try to avoid disturbing the hen and nest which could cause her to abondon. However, if the nest is in the middle of an open field where predators could easily spot the nesting hen then I'd try to do something that would help conceal/protect the hen while on nest (especially at night). Maybe some thick leafy branches from a tree or two? Better to take a chance loosing the nest to abondoment than loosing the hen and nest some night to a coyote. http://www.wc.adfg.state.ak.us/index.cfm?adfg=wildlife_news.view_article&articles_id=426
  11. You did a great job with the fan! Did you inject the leggs with a preservative? I only ask because years ago I had my first gobbler done just about the same as yours and now the feet look dried and shriveled up since they were not injected.
  12. Welcome Bruce, I'm sure there will be some more detailed help coming. I've never hunted in Iowa, but have heard from others that have that in the southern 1/2 of the state the deer hunting is about as good as it gets on public land in any state. Good luck!
  13. Congratulations! It's nice still seeing turkey harvest pictures. My season has been over for more than a month now.
  14. I've sawed Elks walk and waller arounds all over at the YMCA camp in Colorado. Them dern Elks are as tame as dat ol Tink is gramatically correct!

    13 Weeks!

I like it! I need to do that to, how's it done? I also want to point out that scouting and stand setting starts a lot earlier than Oct. 1st! For me the season really starts the first cool day (high in the low 60's) in September when I can get out in the woods without sweating to death.
  16. I used to be. A couple years ago money was more than tight and we decided to drop cable TV, magazine subscriptions, and yes I didn't renew my NWTF. I too have been thinking about renewing.
  17. Big old Toms make for awesome pictures (and eating)! Congratulations!

    new riddle

    Can I have your map?
  20. Posting a riddle here without someone knowing it right off would be a feat! Good job Tbow and Strut. This was one I had not heard before and it took me an hour to get it. If anyone is still wondering (what's different between these two)... Three fisherman are in a boat when a shark swims under them causing a wave that capsizes the boat. The boat and the three men all sink to the bottom of the sea. However, not a single man gets wet. How can this be? Three fisherman are in a boat when a shark swims under them causing a wave that capsizes the boat. The boat and the three men all sink to the bottom of the sea. However, not a SINGLE man gets wet. Need a stand

Several factors have to be considered. 1. Will it stay there once in place? If so then bigger and unfortunately heavier may be better, if not then lighter and smaller. 2. If you pack it in and out each time how far are you walking? If a long way, then go super light (Summit open shot - 14 pounds) 3. If it stays how well do you know the area and is it safe? If so get a name brand (summit, lone wolf) if you don't know I'd hate to see you loose a 2-300 dollar stand. 4. Will you bow hunt or gun hunt from it (or both)? If using a gun you may like the bar features, if bow hunting you may not?
  23. Congratulations on a great season! Very cool pictures!

    Double Standard?

Although I don't know him well I believe Kyle to be a decent fella William and I figured his intentions were not to generalize. However, like you said others might not see that and get the wrong impression of the RT forums which I'm sure is the last thing Kyle or any of us would want.
  25. Alan hit the nail on the head as I learned last season. This Buck had an inside spread over 20 inches yet only grossed 131. I'll post the pic for the new guys.
