  1. Congratulations on your turkey!
  2. Congratulations on your first bird! Must be nice being able to get a second spring turkey tag at Wal-Mart. Not like that in IL.

    Found One!

Was going to say the same thing. A great way to break the ice and possibly gain access for finding more sheds, shrooms, whatever.
  4. YeHa! Can't wait to see the pics and hear the stories Gus and Slaw. Hey slaw, you're right, turkey hunting is tough some years and when a jake comes in I don't hesitate.
  5. Beautiful bird and country. Congratulations!
  6. Great bird, congratulations! Hey umpire, don't give the next bird 5 years before calling him out.
  7. How are you planning to introduce Ty (as I recall) to hunting?
  8. Never heard that one swampy. Chicka Chicka Bow Bow... (is that the music you are fererring to?)
  9. Gotta go with yellow #4 because in my opinion it gives you the best opportunity to kill the deer if your shot is off a bit. I'd be slightly more concerned about grazing the shoulderblad and a richochete with the lower red. I'd take the shot, it's ethical with a slug gun and I wouldn't want to take the chance of him bolting instead of walking. I like to take the highest percentage kill shot and if the hole is visible in the mount then that's just the way it is. I don't rush my shots, but always take the first good shot I get. I know hunters that take the white head shot, but with CWD problem a brain shot isn't an option for me.
  10. I hope Tim Andrus reads this. You hear that Tim, better watch out for IL. hunting girls. They are very smackdown capable.
  11. Another memory for your family. Congratulations!
  12. Congratulations to both of you! Great looking IL bird there.
  13. That's one heavy bird! Congratulations
  14. Sorry to hear about your hand! Hopefully sharing this story will prevent something like this from happening to someone else. I know a lot of guys want to pick a flopping bird up by the feet to prevent feather damage (taxidermy). Much safer to just hold it down with your knee and squeeze the neck till it's limp. That's what I do anyway.
  15. Great idea not rushing out to get the first one. Congratulations!

    Final Roost

The Primos Gobbler shaker call can be used as a jake or gobbler call. By simply shaking it with one hand the sound is more like a jake than a mature gobbler. Difficult to describe the difference, I'd say the jake sound is higher in pitch. http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0044655222295a.shtml
  17. Great color on that bird. Congratulations!
  18. It's always nice to see our siblings coming into their own. Congratulations to him.
  19. I'd use a ground blind and stay dry in heavy rain. I'd also find a location I'd think turkeys will be at some time that morning and just cluck and purr every 10 minutes or so. I like to set up early and wait as opposed to walking and calling in heavy rain. Last year I had a few come into my calling and they never made a sound in the heavy rain. I didn't have a ground blind last year and they saw me the same time I saw them. They got away and I bought a ground blind. In light rain I'll try sneaking around more and I find the birds to be a bit more vocal. Good luck!
  20. Glad the odds came out in your favor! Congratulations on a fine bird!
  21. We are on the board! I'll get the pics/form up later. The story and more pics are in the turkey room titled "Final Roost". Looking foward to hearing how all of your hunts turned out. It's been fun! Good luck to all still in the game!

    Final Roost

Earlier this turkey season Rhino posted a story and pics of a bird he took with the help of a gobbler call. His tactic was put to good use and resulted in this fine looking bird! This gobbler flew off the roost and was hung up about 75-100 yards away. He strutted back and forth for about 20-30 minutes. He was not coming closer. Some might use the tactic of silence or continued clucking/purring/etc... However, Rhino's strategy of using a jake call did the trick. That gobbler couldn't stand the thought of a jake getting together with his hens and came strutting in planning to pound the jake decoy. He never made it. Beard: a thick 10 inchesSpurs: about an inch eachWeight: 19 lbs.Age: Likely a 3 year old Thanks Rhino!
  23. Congratulations! Those snakes have a way of surprising you don't they.

    Diamond Iceman

I just read the current issue of Outdoor Life and they rated it number 1 out all new bows. It looks like a great bow.
