Love the snow Luke! Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Looks like 2.5 years and I sure hope he scores 118 and then some! If you do get it officially scored, don't be to let down if he ends up being lower than you think. Regardless, that's a very nice buck.

Great pictures and stories! Keep them coming. I'm with William, several deer I've been fortunate enough to harvest have some amazing stories and associated emotion to them. I've taken some big deer with one making B&C, but the deer below is my favorite. It was the largest deer I'd taken in my first 12 years of hunting and remained the largest racked deer for another eight. The deer was taken in 1998. I had not harvested a deer since 1992 (6 years)! I wasn't a serious deer hunter yet, but I was REALLY REALLY wanting to get a deer at that years deer camp! Antlers were a bonus and an 8-pointer seemed out of the question. At the time everything I new about scoring was simply counting the points. I had no idea what P&Y or B&C was. I still remember hauling my ladder and stand out to a field edge 1 mile out on public ground in S. Illinois. I had just started using tree stands and didn't know about climbers. The shot and drag to my truck seemed like a fairy tail. When I got him loaded into my truck I cranked the radio. Tim McGraw - where the green grass grows was on. I had always been a head banging hard rock music fan, but at that moment I changed to a country music fan. Can you relate an experience where music intensified the excitement of harvesting an animal? When I got back to camp and told my dad and grandpa I had an 8-pointer in the truck. They said, whatever and didn't believe me. When I finally convinced them I was not joking they looked and were all smiles. I was hooked on country music and big game hunting for life. From then on deer hunting was no longer something to do, but a passionate religous experience. Little did I know at the time but that deer camp also marked the end of a chapter in my life. My gradfather passed away a few months later. He had lung cancer and didn't tell anyone until after the Holidays. Currently the deer head hangs in my daughters room. A little 1.5 year old buck that will never be scored.

Good luck to all still in the hunt! Ace, how about this Christmas eve snow! Should make for great stalk hunting tomorrow! Best of luck to you. The largest buck I've taken was on the last day of the 07 season. A 171 inch monster I arrowed at last light (January 17th 2008). I'm beginning to love late season hunting!

It's been a while since I've seen a post on this (sure as I write this I'll get a link to the exact thing one month ago when I was busy hunting and not posting -LOL). Let's see you're favorite deer harvested... (buck, doe, whatever is special to you).

Looks like his G-2's and 3's are a little on the short side. I'd go low 140's Gross.
-
William is close but I'm going with 148 and 1/8th Gross (LOL). He will net well, likely will only lose a few inches -145 net. Great looking buck!
-
Gary, those pictures are awesome! I'd like to see more of your pictures so I'm sending you a Facebook friend request. I'm also going to send you a PM about Winterhawk Outfitters.
-
Wouldn't be the same without you. Chris you missed the "New World Record Deer" post from a couple days ago.
-
Yes I did! That was strange. I had to watch that "Christmas at the head bangers ball" again and noticed my post was gone. At first I thought it was a computer problem, now I know.
-
Those antlers make it look younger. I'm thinking 3.5 from the body.
-
Get a haircut ya bunch of hippies! That was great!
-
What did you're first P&Y measure?
-
Late season bucks are the best! Congratulations

Looks like the cheapest permit is 388.00 which isn't bad. Nearly 800.00 for the limited entry areas. 388.00 isn't too bad, but I bet the odds of taking a bull like the one you got are pretty low.

Given the season you had Stone we all should have figured this was your year! Great guess. I measured him to Gross 130 4/8 inches. William, if Stone had not added that 1/8 of an inch it would have been a tie and I would have had to go to Wal-Mart and buy another gift card. LOL Stone, pm me your address and I'll get you your winnings! Merry Christmas all!

Almost makes me want to move to Utah! The 10 year thing as a resident is insane! Wish it wasn't so dang tough to get a bull elk tag in the US, I'd love to try it. Until it becomes a hunt an average salaried American living in IL can do I'll stick with whitetails. Congratulations on an awesome animal!

Time is running out! I'm going to get the gift card today. Guess Walmart would be the best bet since they seem to be everywhere. Going to up it to $15.00 (yes I'm a big spender). Smack, that deer was taken on private ground. I have permission to hunt a small corner of a large farm (mostly a cattle grazing hillside that runs down to a creek). The neighboring land is a huge field that has been allowed to grow over with brush for the past 5-6 years. Thick and great for bedding. There are only a few trees that are suitable for a treestand, but that's all one guy needs. The rest of the farm has a lot of timber and is hunted by the farmers relatives. My corner is not hunted because there are cattle there at times and because of the lack of timber. I don't hunt this area much in November. I wait until late season when the deer head to the thick stuff due to the hunting pressure. As I get older I realize hunting big bucks requires hunting smarter. Some times it's better to go somewhere else or even stay home if your favorite spot has the wrong wind.

Yup, seen that before because that guy is me! I bagged that monster back in 1963. I kept that picture under wrap for a while because I didn't want my secret spot to get out. Over the years I've seen bigger ones than that! I just miss a lot. Now that I'm getting to old to hunt I'll let you all know my secret spot is in Ohio right next to Tominators new house. So get your Ohio non-resident (yes- that's right Ohio, not Illinois) tags today!

Love hunting the hardwoods in the snow!

Thanks everyone. Just finished butchering and noticed a huge bulge in his right leg below the knee. You can see it in the truck bed picture. The leg was completely broke and filled with green pus/infection. Deer are tough creatures! I have his unofficial score and I recorded it before looking at any guesses. Tune in Monday for the results!

Saw at least 6 does throughout the morning (possibly 10 - some may have been the same deer I saw earlier). I watched them feed then bed. I got down at 10am for lunch and was back in the stand by 2pm. The buck was on the same trail headed towards the bedded does at 2:10pm. Not sure if he was after them (5 hours later) but his nose was on the ground??? His neck did not appear to be swollen, but I believe he was looking for the does.
