  1. Awesome! Still got late season tags over the counter if that mid-January depression starts setting in.
  2. Steve knows his Canadian deer alright, but what's strange is that I read an article last year that said deer with larger antlers can keep their racks longer than deer with smaller antlers. Some big racks stay attached until early April. As I recall the data the article gathered was from US deer. I wounder if weather or nutrition plays a part in the difference? The other thought I had is that it might have been broke off (not shed). I saw a one antlered deer in November. Year and 1/2 old buck.
  3. Best of luck to ya hunter109
  4. The ones that would fool me the most are likely the ones I never recovered. I'd say an 8 out 10 for those I've recovered. Most enter and exit where I thought they would/should. Got a feeling those I don't recover hit a rib or shoulder and deflect into a non-vital area.
  5. Huge body on that brute! Congrats!
  6. You ever have one of those seasons where you hunt hard and just can't see to make it work? Well you may have read my post on the big buck I arrowed in November and couldn't find. Then one month later found it with the head sawed off. A pretty frustrating season was in the works. But then a late season success comes out of no where and changes it all. Bagged this bad boy yesterday in freezing rain. I saw about 10 does in the morning and at 2pm this guy comes looking for them. I just love big bucks against the snow covered ground. The tip of his right main beam is busted (I'm thinking it would have added another 4 inches). It'll be a while for the official score, but I'll put the tape to him tomorrow as I butcher. I'm generally within a few inches and this buck should be an easy tape. If you're into guessing give it a shot and the member closest to my unofficial score gets a 10 dollar gift card. My way of saying thanks and Merry Christmas to my RT brothers and sisters. We'll close the Guessing at 6pm Monday December 21st. I'll pm the winner Monday night and ask for an address to send the card to. That way it will get there by Christmas. BTW... Gross score
  7. Hey Ruth, see what I mean about it taking just a few seconds to change your season! Got this big boy yesterday at 2pm. More pictures in the thread titled "Care to take a guess?"

    I Got One!

    Yea Baby! Congratulations!
  9. You need two. Summit open shot: 14 lbs and great for long walk ins, but not comfortable enough for an all day sit. Summit Viper 21 lbs for the all day sit. If you have a fixed rail you can still bow hunt with it. Just loosen the cable a notch so it angles down a little instead of being level. You don't loose any comfort or safety and it opens the front up for a standing bow shot.
  10. Nice thread Mike, thanks for sharing. Hey NJ bear hunting anti's (and any other state for that matter), I got something for ya. Bear! It's what's for dinner.
  11. I use a rem 870 express with tru glo fiber optic sights. It puts all my sabots in a grapefruit at 50 yards. I shot a deer at 100 yards with it years ago and hit the leg. Ended up getting the buck, but that's another story. Good gun for under 300 dollars.

    scopes..

I have a red dot (no magnification) on my 20 G wingmaster. B-square mounting bracket. It doesn't come loose and works well. I use it because it shoots slugs high. Regular sights don't fix the problem. The red dot did. I have tru-glo fiberoptics on my 12 G and would not want a scope on it. I prefer open sights because of the way I hunt. One has to be too cautious with a scope and I hunt through thick cover and rough terrain. I put my 12 G through heck.
  13. Hang in there Ruth. My year hasn't turned out like I'd hoped either. Ya know for every year we don't bad a big one it makes it that much better when we do. Remember all it takes is a few seconds to change the worst season ever into the best season ever.
  14. If that right G3 was intact he'd be a 200 incher! What a deer.
  15. Reindeer eh....... Gives me an idea on how to finally get my buck this season. Lets just hope he's running late this year and I can see the sun staring to rise prior to the shot. I wouldn't want to shot Santas reindeer in the dark (that wouldn't be right).
  16. Yesterday was four weeks since I had shot my big buck and yesterday I found him. Unfortunately someone else had before me. The neck had a smooth cross cut at the base of the head. Someone cut the head off and left the rest. Expected given this was a public ground. The rib cage and feet were huge! This deer likely went over 200 pounds. I found him approx 500 yards from where I shot him. The odd thing is he died in a creek about 150 yards from an abondoned house in thick brush. I never would have thought he would have went that way. After exploring the land it made sense, although it was a much longer route to water, it was the easiest for a wounded deer to take. The closest I had come to him while searching was about 200 yards and the leaves were still around making it much harder to search. Wish I knew who took the head, I would have liked to examine his teeth and get an age.
  17. Could it be a B&C 8-point? It'll be close.
  18. I've passed on these deer all season, but October and November are gone and I decided to take anything for meat on the last day (for me) of the shotgun season. Took this 4 point yesterday morning. I've still got a ML either sex tag for next weekend and my bow tag, but the hunting is gettign hard now. This buck came from the Shawnee National Forest and has a double white patch on his neck.
  19. Time for a GPS for hunting. Looking for something under 150.00. Waterproof, don't break when dropped. What do you all recommend?
  20. Great buck! Congratulations MUD
  21. Congratulations William! I'll bet he has some of the same genetics as your buck last year.
  22. Well done Avery and dad!
