LOL. I can relate to this one. Last year I bought tickets to The Phantom in NY City. I always wanted to take my wife to a show. I researched many of them and picked the Phantom. I got the tickets for a good price by purhcasing a coupon on eBay for 5 bucks. The tickets then were purchased for half price! So I bought the tickets and we went. The night started off with a long line, which we figured we had to wait in, even though we had tickets. Then some big guy with a long black leather coat approached us and said, "go to the front". I was thinking, "Who is this idiot"? He then starts yelling that he is security and announces that since we already had tickets, why were we standing in line. Hmm, I thought for a second about the fact that he was right. He then started yelling that we must all be standing in line because we want to. Well after that we just started to go inside. The show finally started and I was confused because I had Phanton confused with The Hunchback of Notre Dame for some reason. Within 5 minutes I was alseep. My wife knudged me and I managed to stay awake for most of it. I guess I am not much of a Broadway theatre guy. Oh, and a beer during intermission was like 8 bucks.

Nice bird! Tyler and I tried, but didn't get one. I have a lot to learn with these birds.

I have a light camo jacket and pants I use bowhunting. Same quality as Gander Mountain Tec 2.0.

:camera:I just voted for Mike. Looks like he is catching him. He owes me a coffee.

It was cool. Thanks guys. I think I may change to a different style knock to prevent them in the future. Not that I think it will happen alot, but who has the money to throw away?

Well today I had a set of 70 pound limbs put on my Diamond Liberty. Got them for 10 bucks on eBay. After they were put on I did some shooting at the Gander range and got my first Robin Hood. Here's the pics. I threw in the 4th pic because it's meaning is more important the the other pics!

Well you guys must have wished Tyler a lot of luck. He kicked my butt. I'd like to blame it on the wind, the sun, whatever, but he just plain shot great and deserved to win. I figured I'd post first before Tyler started teasing me. Bowhunter Steve also shot great and beat me. I think I need to stick to indoor where I know each shot is 20 yards . Time to step it up....

I would not be scared of the Mathews. I do not shoot a Mathews, I shoot a Diamond. I just feel that any bow is subject to a mechanical problem. I think the $160.00 would make a big difference to me. I would also see what bow was quieter. Screaming arrows mean little to me if the bow is loud. Have fun with your decision.

Cheating? I never would have dreamed a camera would be used like that. On the topic of cheating, we score our own cards. What's to prevent me from getting all 10's then? Like I said on the other post, we shoot for fun, and even if it was a competition, I couldn't look anyone in the eyes if I had to cheat for the victory. Peace of mind is priceless and the win much more worth it to do it the right way, not to mention the morals and ethics involved. I plan on getting more pics from future shoots. I really need to make sure there is no problems with that at the clubs.

Thanks for the info. I guess my problem is we never really thought of the shoots as a circuit or anything like that. Next one we go to I will have to talk to one of the organizers to see what all of their rules are and if it is part of ASA or IBO. I see that judging a target's distance also tests ones "woodsmanship" I would say then, which makes sense. I think the shoots we go to are all independant shoots, basically fundraisers for the clubs, but I am not 100% sure.

I bought my bow sight unseen and never even held that model in my hands. I had done some research on the bow I wanted which was a Diamond Black Ice. I shot one and liked it. Just out of my price range. I then found a Diamond Liberty on eBay which was basically one model below the Black Ice. The price was right so I bought it. There is a risk doing that obviously but I took it. I am happy with the Liberty. Worse case is you buy it and it isn't what you expected. You can always resell it but may lose a few bucks. Good luck.

We've been doing the 3 D thing now for the past three years. It has been a lot of fun. I've noticed that many people have different thoughts on what equipment can or can't be used. I also was a little suprised when I was told we can't use a rangefinder. I figured it had to be because not everyone has one, therefore it wouldn't be fair. I understand that. I also understand why there are different yardage markers for children, trad shooters etc.. But so far I have heard people make comments that binocs shouldn't be used, rangefinders shouldn't be used etc.. I'm thinking the next shoot I go to I may just ask the people in charge if I can use my rangefinder but just don't count my score. I am not there to win, just to have some fun. If it simply boils down to these are the rules, then I understand that, and would abide by them. Not for nothing, it is not my land, nor my targets, therefore I will abide by the rules and show respect. Just like in hunting, many of us hunt for different reasons. Therefore many of us target shoot for different reasons. I may shoot for score and you may shoot just to enjoy a walk in the woods. Lately I have been shooting heavy arrows at about 54 pounds. These arrow are flying a little over 200 fps. I really enjoy shooting my setup and want to master it. I hunt with a rangefinder and just want to 3 D shoot with it once in a while. The way I see it is many people I am shooting against are shooting very fast setups. Not much difference shooting 20, 23, or 27 yards. One pin handles all that. For me there is a difference in those small yardages. My buddy teases me and says I need a 10, 11, 12 yard pin etc.. Just wondering if you guys have experienced in your leagues different views, opinions etc... Maybe these fish and game clubs have actual rules. I don't know. The last thing I want to do is go shoot and start trouble. I just want to shoot the way I hunt, which is using binocs and a rangefinder. I watched a guy a couple weeks ago use his binocs alot. He obviously wanted to know exactly where the 10 ring was on each target. He was a great shot and i could have cared less. He was having fun. I then talked to a guy last week who was saying how it is dumb to use binocs as the kill zones are in the same place as real animals. Am I way off base to just say, live and let live? It's got to be competition related why rangefinders can't be used.

Just wondering why cameras were made illegal.

I have never used them as I shoot Lightfields. A friend of mine shoots the SST's out of his 1100 and he likes them.

Nice. I would love to hunt Africa some day. Do you know what the arrow specs were, weight etc.. And broadhead brand and type. Just curious.

You know it Steve.

You forgot to mention the other half of your present. King crab and filet mignon. Yeah were livin like the rich and famous tonight. Happy B day and no more borrowing my range finder!

Can't complain in central NY. Weather has been beautiful this week.

I do not know what KE you need for a pass through. I do not think it makes sense to ask a question phrased like that. I have been told that a kinetic pulse of 500 is needed to break the shoulder bone of a deer. KP is different than KE. My KP charts start with a 350 grain arrow. A 350 grain arrow at 285 fps give a KP of 899.37. In order for my set up to generate a KP of about 900 I would have to shoot my 500 grain arrow 225 fps. 260 grain arrow is very light. I'd say worry less about the speed and shoot a heavier arrow. The traditional shooters are using heavy arrows, some 600, 700, 800 grains at speeds well under 200 fps. Low KE, but the arrows zip right through the animals. Why?? Because kinetic pulse is more a function of momentum, which is affected more by arrow mass, than speed.

I love these discussions. My physics education ended after high school, therefore I am no expert. I do understand the extreme basics though/ I believe the guy who understands this stuff the best is Dr. Ed Ashby. I suggest anyone intersted in penetration read his stuff. What I have found is that most guys I know and shoot with are more concerned with speed, poundage and KE than anything else. Why is that? Well I believe it is that way because that is what the industry pushes to sell products. I have been experimenting with different weight arrows for the past year or so. I am shooting a 500 grain arrow out of my 60 pound Diamond Liberty. The only downfall to heavier arrows in my opinion is they are not as flat shooting. More guess work on yardage and more pins. That cost me a deer last year as I was shooting 580 grain arrow. I'm still learning. Light and fast is just not the way I am shooting anymore. KE doesn't mean a heck of a lot when it comes to penetration. Kinetic pulse is a better measurement to go by. Kinetic pulse charts can be found in the book "Traditional Bowyer, More Unecessary Fun". If KE and speed was extremely important regarding penetration, people shooting large game such as cape buffalo wouldn't be shooting 900 grain arrows at 85 pounds. Why not shoot a lighter arrow at blazing speeds at the buffalo? It wouldn't penetrate. Thank you Dr. Ashby for answering a lot of questions. Your hard work is appreciated. From what I have seen, light fast set ups work on deer most of the time because of good shot placement. How many times though does that arrow fail to penetrate? Dr. Ashby reminds us something to the effect of, our setups should be able to handle worst case scenarios. I have also noticed my heavier arrows simple fly like darts. FOC is at 16%. When I go to a 250 broadhead/insert combo, it jumps to over 25%. It's been fun learning and experimenting. Good luck on the boar hunt! One of my dream hunts.

I only shoot Leupolds and Nikons after breaking a Bushnell and Simmons. The Bushnell and Simmons were cheapers scopes though not their best models.
