  1. For some its golf, boating, tournament fishing, or just blowing it another way. We'll all be 6 ft under in the near future, I try to get out and enjoy nature and some time with my kids and not dwell on the cost factor, even though I spend 30 bucks every time I drive to the camp in fuel alone. Focus on the reasons you do what you do and try not to involve the calculator. Costs are rising for everything and hunting certainly is not exempt.
  2. Still don't have one Tracey. Lots of reasons why, but if I was a single man I would be on it. Great for lots of folks but I keep a low profile.
  3. IPhone 4 ....or.... Galaxy II S?
  4. Congratulations guys!
  5. They're sick alright. I think if someone ever got to that guy and really whooped his @$$ he may just receive a little enlightenment.
  6. Very nice Ross. I really feel for you not having a Chevy dealership within a thousand miles, but I guess you got to do what you got to do. J/k bud. Hope she treats you well.
  7. Got an old Garmin GPS 72. Does not have the ability to add land/topo maps, but keeps me from getting off course and hundreds of points I can mark. Good question on boots, anybody use the Danner pronghorns? These swamp boots (muck) I wear around here are not going to cut it hiking. Also good ideas on the MRE's. Some are actually pretty good, not something I care to eat, but pack easily for taking with you and heat up hot too with the heaters.
  8. Think I'll pass. Don't think ball bearings in a thick grip is a cure for bad form.
  9. Good deal Gregg, I like my 300, everything but the cost of ammo at least!
  10. I would likely lean toward Savage. Very accurate rifle for the money, great barrels on them, take the extra you saved over the Tikka and put it in the scope. JMHO Hopefully we'll get to meet come fall! John Also, thats a good round, very abundant and cheap too compared to a lot of others.
  11. You said it there bud. Sad for all involved. No justice or making right in these cases.
  12. Never heard of it, and personally I cant see the need for a gadget like that. Torqueing can be ovecome with practicing good form.
  13. In other words we can't all draw 82 lbs like you do stud!!! :flex:
  14. Bear does make a top notch bow, been shooting them for years and they are as good as they come. Depending on your age and if you are still growing, Bowhunter97 suggested a great bow, the razor edge, that can grow with you with lots of adjustment in weight and draw length.
  15. always one in the herd....

    help

How many acres are you dealing with? With enough acreage and habitat, outside pressure could be to your advantage.
  17. William we may could possibly work out a carpool. Still unsure on my end who's going with me, my hunting buddy is trying to make up his mind soon as to whether or not he's going to commit. Will know more in the next couple weeks. Fuel is going to be a big cost with dragging a trailer/atv out there and prices could easily be past the $4 mark. Over 2,400 mile round trip from here.
  18. Limbs will be adjustable from 60-70 so that's not an issue if you get the 70lb limbs. Sky is the limit, Lots of close-outs this time of year on new bows that never got sold, trade-ins at bow shops, ebay, etc. Just get out and shoot and decide what features are important to you, what bows fit your hand well, etc, then work from there. Buying a loaded out used bow can save you hundreds over buying new. Good luck.
  19. You're right about that. I would just as soon have a bologna and cheese as a mediocre reuben. The one I made the other night was handicapped by the meat. Can't get the good stuff down here either. Used to be a little deli in town that had great ones, but is closed and I have no clue where they got their meat. The good stuff is in NYC.
  20. Gotta go with hunting, if for no other reason, making fish sausage is too hard and not very tasty.
  21. Will do! As if something could not be improved with bacon grease, I can't believe I havent tried that yet!
  22. I hate to tell you this but it will happen again if you keep hunting. As sure as you'll occasionally miss, you will wound a deer. There is always a trade-off, lower poundages hurt you somewhat with longer yardage shots, but also let you pull at almost any angle and hold back longer. What good is a 70lb pull if you had to let down when that 10pt stepped behind a tree and you had to let down and spook him? Its great to step up, keep practicing and build muscle, but dont push it, if you cant draw smooth and easy you're pulling too much. Just my 2 cents
