  1. Sorry to hear about your loss, prayers are with you and your family.
  2. Ya, I was thinking that was a givin, since there was not a tricusp. So you have it easy, managing private!
  3. I was always taught to focus on the first molar. Dentine vs. enamel, them move back from there.

  5. I was hoping it was not just me, and was wondering if other people felt the same way. I understand where you are coming from too. I read the post earlier, and sometimes wonder if Christians don't spend more time pointing fingers at each other than worrying about spreading the word, and showing Christ through themself! I was blessed to end up with a job in the wildlife profession, but alot of my job I do have to interact with the public. I find that attitude is everything, and how you approach people. 80% of the time I can gain compliance by simply showing respect and talking to the individuals, the other 20%, well you can't fix stupid, but you can put a $ amout on it, and the courts will sort it out. Understanding and tolerance!
  6. Maybe you guys can help. I grew up southern baptist, and of course the pastor that I grew up under, was pretty good at explaining the bible, Hebrew, Greek... I was seriously considering the ministery, went with wildlife. Later joined the military, when they found out I didn't do tobacco, of course to me it was a no brainer, my grandfather passed away because of it, and I didn't drink although I do now, as in a mixed drink MAYBE once or twice a month, I've seen what it can do when abused also. I didn't cuss, which that's CHANGED, but all in all the same. I did join the Marines after 9/11 hit. Done two tours to Iraq, it's kind of hard to explain how you can get SO desensitized to violence to take another human's life and not think twice. Like taking out the trash. Yeah, there's no regret, cause you know with every well placed shot your saving lives, and that the things the muslim world allows is WRONG, no exceptions! Long story short, the things people do in the name of religion makes me sick. I know, I know, religion does not save, it's knowing where we stand with God, and what Christ has done for us, and accepting him, and his gift, bottom line. Muslim extremist = Muslim beliefs, how is it different that Christians squabbling over interpretation of scriptures when we know the bottom line, NO exceptions. I know there's a BIG difference, Protestants are not beheading people! Just the underlining of the whole thing. It does say, in the end, EVERY knee will bow, and EVERY head will confess! BTW, my faith in Christ is strong, it's just I've lost alot with people!
  7. Yes sir, we use them quite a bit around here. My wife has a Ruger #1 in 2506. I reload them, use the Hornady 117 Interlocks. I use a 270 w/140 interlock, and she drops them faster than I do. It is a really good round!!! I'd buy anther one if I ever come across a good deal.
  8. Just picked up a new bow Saturday. I have been shooting nothing but Hoyt for the last 15 years. Picked up a Mathews Creed XS, wow! Hoyts are good bows, but shooting something that long then changing, you can really tell the difference!! I might be switching, who knows, still have the Hoyt, and like it. If any Hoyt die hards try to start blowing smoke, I'll argue!!

  10. Well, haven't had much luck either. Usually late season is when I do have the best luck. Have a little time left. The twins are here, so I'm REALLY trying when I get the opportunity. My 4 yr old daughter has REALLY peaked her interest. So now I have a little helper, which is AWESOME!!
  11. No babies yet, due the 22. I've had several opportunities at bucks, but I figure in order to get big ones, you have to let something walk. Shot at one during muzzle loading season, nothing special, just wanted to try and get one with my new mz. I'm seeing bucks, but not in hot pursuit. It doesn't help either when your neighbor knocks a stud down with his mz, and then you see all these little bucks walking around. It kind of runs it for you!
  12. Hey guys. sorry for not being much of a talker. I've had some luck, just not the luck I'm looking for. I've shot 2 doe, kind of hard to take a selfie when the weather is 70-80 degrees out and your trying to get em cooled down, and by yourself. The bucks here are on the move, no rutting, but their sure looking. Hopefully I'll have some luck this weekend. Veterans day weekend has always been good it seems.
  13. Checking in. Season starts here in Oct.1. My wife is expecting twins, the due date is November 22. So I'm going to be hitting it hard early, and maybe out of pocket later in season. Here's one that I'm hitting for.
  14. Congrats! I'd tell her to keep her options open as far as who she works for. I was wanting to work for the state here in Oklahoma, then I got an interview with the Corps of Engineers for a Natural Resource Specialist. It's an awesome gig! The best of both worlds, biologist and Park Ranger. Except we're not certified to carry, which AOK with me, we just call the deputy. The biggest perk, is the pay, we make more than Gamewardens, and don't even have to carry a gun! Getting out of the military, I really did not want to carry a gun, know all to well the bad end of things.
  15. Wtnhunt, your right, I don't use bleach, I use peroxide, the stuff you get at the salon for perms, comes in two parts, a paste and powder, you mix em together, and paint it on your skull, cover it with a plastic wal-mart sack, stick somewhere cool, and wait for a couple days, the stuff will dry and fall off once it's deactivated. As far as boiling skull, it usually takes me a half a day or so, and I use 20 mule team borax detergent when boiling, then use a pressure washer on the final touch. I had a taxidermist do one of the skulls last year, and he puts something in, and it eats it away, not too big of a fan, ate pretty much all of the membrane out of the nose.
  16. Hoyt, same here, I boil em in borax, bleach em, and there done in about a week or two. Tip my hat to you guys, I wouldn't be able to put up with the stink. I split a small hickory log, and have the skull sitting on it in a row, and for the smaller bucks I cut the antlers off and tied them individually to a piece of 550 cord, kind of like Primos's turkey rope.
  17. I'd use topo maps too. GPS is good, in fact I have a Trimble unit sitting on my desk now. Here's a question, how much scouting is too much? My philosophy is, big bucks do not get big for being stupid! I don't even use stands the majority of the times, cause I got sick of deer walking under and looking up! I have a couple of designated trees I climb and sit in the fork of. Seems like the deer have NO CLUE once you start tree hopping!
  18. Checking in, season does not start until April 1 here.
  19. Let me rant a little. We do have 2 buck tags here in OK, so we can harvest 2 bucks with a bow if he hasn't already filled one of them. Our rules also allow us to harvest multiple deer in the same day! So there's a chance he MIGHT of had another buck tag in is pocket, or not! HOWEVER!! 1. The wounded buck was NOT dead when he left the field, PLEASE try and corner a wounded buck and see what happens! 2. He made a bad shot on the bigger buck and decided to back out, HOW is that not ethical? He could have contacted a local gamewarden and went back out that night to check on the wounded buck, pretty sure the gamewardens would have told him to just wait and check on him in the morning, which would have been too late! That's mother nature!
  20. Bucks do run with the wind, but your hunting for that 1 time that for the buck to get complacent to capitalize. I usually use western ragweed or broomweed, slap it on my scentloc as I'm walking to the stand. Coon urine would be another good one. Consistancy and changing stand locations via deer movement would be my recommendation.
  21. Throw you a loop, how many mature bucks do you see that walk with the wind at their back vs. nose in the wind? Deer play the wind also, I believe the key is scent control, and stand placement. I usually hunt out of the fork of a tree, then move according to the deer. I had a buck this year come in from up wind and stood there and looked up at me, his goal was to bust me, even though he couldn't smell me. BTW, use native forage to cover your scent, cow poop, rag weed..
  22. I'm pretty sure you don't manage turkey like deer, meaning you don't try and get the tom to hen ratio down! More hens, more clutches, which in the end produce more turkey. Maybe it is harder hunting, but hunting is not our priority, management is.
  23. Two things I haven't heard meantioned is, 1) Be patient, even after you hit the call, and no response, there's a good chance they might be coming in quiet. My first turkey, btw was a jake, I did not even know was in the area, until he gobbled at the cows! I have also had more than one tom come in quiet after his first couple of gobbles. 2) Be mobile, sometimes a big setup is good, but alot of times it is just a waste of time! I have shot several toms by running and gunning, or sneaking around the land features to intercept them, because the hens are pulling them away from the calls. Which means, you have to find out when the hens are nesting, usually toward the mid or later part of the season, meaning they leave the toms about mid morning to nest, which usually the toms will be gobbling their heads off during mid day. The main thing is, it is ALWAYS a learning experience! OH, and if you go elk hunting, pretty much the same tactics apply except you add scent control.
