#4 buck shot!
-
Man hoyt, its never too cold, in fact the colder the better as long as the wind isn't howling. I LOVE hunting in the snow and cold. I had frost collecting on my arrow a couple of days ago, and when I shot him it was in the teens, probably around 10 or so.
-
I hunt some in OK and some KS. I filled my KS tag, so that allowed me to focus on filling my OK tags. As far as where, LOL, come on now, j/k! I hunt mainly public land because of time and access. I hunt the first lake on the Arkansas river. ???
-
Well guys, I'm hanging the bow up. I tagged my last buck tag last night. This will make 6 this year with a bow. I'll get my 12 added in here pretty soon for some more points. Here's the pic of the buck from last night. He's a solid 8. He's the 3rd good buck I've grunted or rattled in during late season. I have had more of my luck calling in the late season!
-
You'al find this pretty cool. I don't shed hunt, but I found a matching set in a tree that a hunter had put there and obviously forgot about. It's a heavy 8, and he'll go P&Y. Oh, and it's on public land too!

I've heard that from alot of Oklahoma hunters, they have said it's been a hard year. I believe the harvest numbers are WAY down too, from talking to biologist, and GW. I personally believe its due to the insane amount of forage that's around. There's still acorns on the ground from white oaks where I'm hunting. My year has actually been all but that, pretty blessed to have a wife and job that allows me to put a lot of hours in the stand though.

We have a till the 15th here. Congrats Zizzer, be good eating.
-
Good luck, you might catch the tail end of the rut. That could be positive or negative about that. Kansas's rifle season is rather late, keeps the pressure off the bucks, allows them grown, and it helps bowhunters out.
-
Fairly good. I'm four deer down, one buck and doe here in OK, and a buck and doe in KS. Still trying to fill a OK tag with a dandy.
-
Here ya go, here's a pic. Atleast 12 scorable points, maybe 13. When I get the scull back, I'll submit better pics. I shot the doe at around 10 yrds, they took off and headed back to where they'd came from, then I realized the buck was following them, kind of messed up, but they would have winded me. While blood trailing the doe, walked out of the stream bottom and the buck had circled back around, standing in the tree line, he looked at me, ranged him at 67 yrds, I took a couple of steps closer, and he turned broad side, used my 60 yrd pin, smacked him in the shoulder and watched him go down after about 50 yrds. I have never had a buck act SO STUPID, he saw me and never gave me snort or blow. I believe he was after the doe I had shot!

Boys, I will be upgrading, 12 for sure, have to measure a sticker, but thinking 13!
-
Me either, I'm trying to upgrade, hopefully I will.

Congrats Zizzer, that's an awesome deer, looks bigj, mount, euro?

EXACTLY!! How much money do you think ANTI-HUNTERS pay to preserve our wildlife for the future? NONE! No telling what she paid for that tag, and how much that helps the local economy! ANTI-HUNTERS are uneducated, Pittman-Robertson Act, license sells, how do they think wildlife is managed! Conservation, not preservation! How many anti-hunters are out studing why the bobwhite quail populations are down, or the praire chickens are declining SO rapidly! I have a pretty good guess and its on one hand! I was working a booth at the Kansas state fair two years ago, and PETA was there, thought it was pretty bold of them to have a booth where the fassion statement was camoflouge! LOL

Team Realtree Challenge Hunt Public

Hoosier I should have read your post! You hit the nail on the head, although bowhunters are WAY more dedicated than rifle hunters, and alot of rifle hunters are bowhunters, they usually fill their tags. The rifle only hunters usually have a harder time though. Public land is not as hard as he was complaining about. Our muzzleloading season was slim pickings, not a lot of hunters. Although that can be + or -, keep deer moving, or no one is walking on you. -
The same here, every little sucker comes in.

Team Realtree Challenge Hunt Public

Mark, I agree to an extent. I have private land and public I hunt. I work on public land, the two biggest deer I have shot came off public land. The problem I see with hunters on public land is persitance, effort and knowledge. They come out 3-4 days a year and expect to shoot a deer and have no knowledge of deer movement, natural food sources, and very few ask. Keep in mind tv shows are in it for one thing, $$$! Success = sales. I do bet they put more time in the stand than the average public land hunter though. Who wants to see someone hunt the same tree for 2.5 months out of a 3 month season, see 3 maybe 4 deer, but end up killing a P&Y 8 point, not too many, and not too many public land hunters put that much into hunting either. So it kind of goes both ways. I see where the big deer are, and watch public land hunters hunt them, 2-3 weeks top, and they give up. -
I apologize, I sent you the info, again I'm sorry, did not see your post.

I wouldn't really care what he scores, the only way to find out is to score em after the fact! He is a stud no matter what!
-
Now if they'd post the points!

I finally got sick of passing on deer, had two fighting, wouldn't come in, so the little 8 that came in to work the scrape GOT IT! I'll post the pics later, I still have two buck tags to go, one KS, and another one in OK. SO atleast we'll have something!!
-
Seem like the bigger bucks are locked down here too. I had a nice buck chasing a doe almost run me over two evenings ago walking out from my stand, been seeing alot of younger bucks cruising.

Was a Marine, seriously? Once, ALWAYS! I saw a tank burn when I was there, not a pretty sight, out by the rifle range! Are there any good mulies that come off of BLM land out there, there has to be some stud mulies!
