    10 point down

    Nice buck. Congratulations.
  2. Man to me those cedars and tall grass look like the kind of stuff deer like to bed in close to food. I could be wrong, but think if it was mine I would probably let most of that grow up. With corn in other nearby fields, I would definitely consider beans.
  3. Welcome to the forums. Used to be a few knight shooters on here. Not familiar with them myself. Would probably try triple 7 for powder. No idea what bullets that gun would run well but would not hurt to try some cheap sabots to start. Not sure if hornady has an offering in 54 cal on their ml xtp sabots but would be a good start of they do.
  4. How big is the field? What is in the other surrounding fields? What ag crops around you. With 14 total acres, looked to me like you maybe have 2-3 acres open field, the rectangular piece between the woods on the south side and the semi wooded area to the north. If that is the case, then yes I would plant it in beans. Leave the semi wooded area to the nw to grow up some with the exception of a trail. I am no expert, but that is where I would start if it was mine based solely on the map. Getting feet on the ground obviously may change perspectives and ideas and others may have totally different opinions. With whatever I would plant some type of plot there. Clover is good, but beans seem to be a better draw.
  5. I would probably put beans in that open field. Leave the wooded areas alone. Leave the beans standing. Eagle beans would be my recommendation. We had good luck for years with rural king soybeans until last year, but after last year's experience won't likely use them again.
  6. Still here. Good to see you check in Joe. Hope all is well for your family. Tell your dad to check in some time too.
  7. Tennessee put our county in high risk for cwd for this season. That meant that during the muzzleloader season you would be allowed to hunt with rifle. So, I sent Catrina to our back field with her .243, loaded with the handloaded hornady 100 grain interlocks. I expected for her to see some activity on the scrapeline where we had been getting daytime pics of a decent 8 pt. That line is about 170-185 yards away from the stand. Our soybeans this year were a bust, so no draw with them in the field, but deer still hit the scrapes. She had not been in the stand long when she saw antlers practically under her. She could not see the body, she had to wait for the deer to work his way away from her. He had snuck in beside her eating acorns from what was supposed to be beans, acorns that probably had dropped from the tree she was sitting in. Canvas wraps the stand and drapes down 3/4 the way of the ladder to help with sneaking in and out of the stand, so she was unable to see the deer until he got far enough away. I am guessing he was 50 yards away when she shot him, angling away. She made a great shot, took the top of the heart. Upon starting to look, I never saw any blood before seeing the white belly in the tall grass next to the brush pile. He made it maybe 45 yards from where he was standing when she shot him. As we found him. Just shy of 18 inches inside the main beams. Deer has almost identical browtines to the wide 8 I killed in 09.
  8. Tracking in snow is not something we have happen here. Congratulations on the doe.

    timing

Got in the stand about 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, this scrapeline is about 185 or so yards away to the far side. Catrina took the week off, and she got a deer on Saturday, so I got to go some this week. It was warm and drizzling on and off. Anyway, I had to wonder how I missed seeing this deer and then realized time fell back but I did not set my cameras back. One of the better bucks we have gotten on camera this season, not sure I would have shot him but still would have been nice to get a better look at him. It is early in the season, hopefully timing will break my way at some point. On his feet at 2 pm and 71 degrees, would think he should be around nearby unless someone else shot him.
  10. That's cool Frank. Always fun when you can call them in. Had some does looking for me this morning after grunting. Think they had already been bred, had their fawns back with them.
  11. Congratulations. Always nice to get one down early on, kinda takes the pressure off of getting something in the freezer.

    Cousin's Buck

    Awesome buck. Congratulations to her.
  13. Sick of the lying news period. Can't even trust fox news anymore. Disgusting what is being attempted in this country. Catrina killed an 8 point opening morning here, this past Saturday. Told her she needs to share her story and pics here.
  14. Biden will not last 6 months. Remember both biden and harris called themselves the harris biden ticket. I hope and pray the Trump legal team somehow manages to pull it out, but not looking good.

    COVID-19 - Impact

Seems to be a very bad week here. Gotten several notifications from the schools over students and staff testing positive. Highest single day death rate earlier this week, and new positive numbers are higher again.
  16. Congratulations Frank. You should have a full freezer by now.
  17. It was never going to be a landslide either way. Too many people just hate Trump. I do however agree that this election has corruption written all over it.
  18. There was no landslide either way, however there is no doubt that joe biden is as crooked as they come, but these days have to wonder just who is pulling his strings. He knew wisconsin and Michigan were going to break his way before polls got close to closing, why he says he didn't need pa. The ballot counting where watchers were not allowed are highly suspicious. Stayed up late Tuesday watching and looked like Trump would pull it out, then get up early Wednesday to see what most of us knew was going to happen with all the mail in "voting". Another thing to remember, obama said in 2008 we need to see $8 a gallon gas to get people off oil. People just don't remember where we were 6 years ago. All I can say is buckle up for the next 4 years folks. A harris admin will lead us in into socialism.

    Real or not?

Seen the clip several times, being photoshopped never crossed my mind. Figured it was a bedded buck in crops that waited too long with a combine coming. Heard plenty of stories of deer waiting to the last minute and getting hit.
  20. Have not had a pair of yotes on trail cams since shooting at the one, but did have a sequence with a doe being chased by a yote. Max had a possum treed this morning, ended up knocking it down with a 20 gauge.
  21. This was the clip Catrina showed me over the weekend https://www.themeateater.com/video/whitetail-deer/video-zombie-deer-with-unbelievable-wound-caught-on-trail-camera Only thought I had was deer was bedded in crops and let combine get too close.
  22. Carina showed me a video from a trail camera of a nice buck that was unzipped from the shoulders nearly to the base of the tail. Could see the insides as the deer walked, could see the shoulder blade move up and down. Dunno how it was walking. Best guess of mine on that one was deer was bedded and let a combine get too close.
  23. Anyone here have any experience with them? Have plenty of imr 4350 on hand, but was looking at trying some accurate 4350 to see if it might meter better but not able to find it anywhere. Ran across a site that had a listing for 4350 in the shooters world brand, the only 4350 they had in stock.
  24. Cost or number of license sales? Surprised if actual numbers of license sold in NY were going up with the news reports of so many people fleeing the state for the tyrannical leader.... Costs have been going up in TN. No clue about the sales though.
