    it's time

I think you got more right there than we got all last year. Saw on a local channel last week where NOAA is contradicting the farmers almanac, calling for a mild winter.
  2. Just the way the terrain is, had I waited til the yotes were closer to the possum the wire would not have been an issue. The horses were headed towards the yotes though and guess I got a little too eager. Never saw the wire when I shot, but after mending the rusty wire, looked through the scope with the gun tested and the bright new wire was right in line with where the yote was when I shot. Shot prone off that rail many times in the past, everything from crowes to tannerite targets, and have shot a few yotes in the past from it. Had joked around about hitting the wire but never had until now. That would make sense. These varmageddon tipped bullets don't take much to start coming apart. Even if it was hit, there would be no exit.
  3. Sorry to hear about losing your dog Steve. Never an easy thing to deal with, they are definitely members of the family. Our old dog that showed up here as a stray back around 2006 hopefully has a few more years in her, but know her time with us is getting short.
  4. Our Anatolian pup(Max) has become very effective with killing possums, 5 in the last 2 weeks. I had been removing them from the yard and tossing them in our pasture with the horses near the top of the hillside not far from the treeline. Been getting trail cam pics of a pair of yotes pretty regular. Hoped that I might get a yote during daylight show up and get a shot. This morning Max was barking and looking towards the treeline. I look and see a pair of yotes just over the bank about 180 yards off. I grab the rock river varmint and pop in a mag with my handloaded tipped varmageddons. Slip out the back door into prone position with the handguard rested steady on the deck rail. Have a solid rest but cannot get a shot for the tree trunk being right in the way, so get a solid steady hold between two low limbs. Yote 1 steps in the window between the limbs and I squeeze with the crosshairs rested right behind the shoulder. Yote spins around and takes off like its hit, other one bee lines straight into the woods. I put Max on a leash and start to walk him in the pasture and hear our electric fence arcing. Did not think much about it. Get to where the yote was when I shot and find no sign, Max's nose goes to the ground and he pulls hard towards the treeline. Walked back and after getting back started checking the fence. Turned out I hit the top wire, cutting it, about 35 or so yards from my position and about 100 yards from where the yote was standing. Where the wire was hit was perfectly inline with where I aimed, what are the chances? Figure I must have missed, but kind of thrown by the wheeling around.
  5. Sorry to hear that, unfortunate part of hunting that happens to most of us at some point. If your dad had tc pics of the deer before, would suggest seeing if he gets anymore. If not, would sure be keyed in on any buzzards circling near where you lost the last blood. Good luck either way.
  6. I used to Gary. Kept a journal in a file on my pc, that pc has not been powered on in at least a year, but that file should still be in the hd. Kept a journal online here for years in the users daily journal. All those here were lost unfortunately with some of the forum "upgrades". I kept some notes in a phone for a while but those did not merge with my last phone swap. I am also guilty of texting messages to my wife about what I see, then later go back and review those. Really the best recounts of my hunts are the stories I have posted here.
  7. Great way to start your season Al. Very nice buck, congratulations. Know you posted pics of a freak buck last year or the year before, is that "cull buck" the same one.
  8. Looks like a real nice buck Jerry. Good luck.
  9. Best advice I could give is to not buy a kit at all, but rather to buy specific to your needs. A good set of jags and brushes are a must, and a good rod/rods are also good to have.
  10. Thanks for sharing Shaun. Some pretty country there and good pics. Before you know it you will be cleaning the kiddos animals.
  11. Picture quality gets pretty poor when zooming in, but looks like a good hunk missing above the spine, where there is no meat or hide left. Seen plenty of deer here get hung up in fence, and get pics of injuries I suspect/ed were fence injuries, but none that look quite like that. Seriously doubt a cat did that, but never know. I would be more inclined to think someone shot her hard angle down, broadhead cut away the meat.
  12. See trucks here pulling hay 11 ft wide on trailers, bales 5.5 ft wide each x2. Imagine as long as you are driving safe, have it safely tied down, and hazards on you should be ok. Just don't go doing like this guy https://www.thedrive.com/news/36567/chevy-silverado-driver-busted-towing-70-foot-mobile-home-on-rural-missouri-highway Noticed you have an outlet above the shelf, you have power to the blind location? Coffee pot ready.

  14. Hard to say from the one angle Joe, but looks like he has something that grew out of the back.
  15. Post your entry pics in this thread. Remember tag pics and a good pic showing yourself with the deer.
  16. Made for four teams of four. Teams drawn and posted. Good luck to everyone. Stay safe and have a great season.

  20. Nah, not too late. Think you make it 5 teams of 3. Will try to get teams drawn and posted tomorrow.
  21. Where's the recliner. lol Nothing against box blinds, I built one for taking my kids and for the wife. In the 16 years it has been there, I have probably sat in it maybe a total of 10 times by myself. All were times when the weather was nasty. And yes deer can see through the windows.
  22. Congratulations on the grandson Al. Congrats on the new house too. Sure you will find some nice bucks in Mo and Ms.
  23. Cool video. Usually an hour in I am ready to move too. A lot different country there than here, wide open. Reminds me of the ranch I took my oldest daughter to hunt in 2010. Here coyotes have a lot more advantage with so much vegetation to hide in.
  24. Congratulations Ruth. Looks like you had a great season last year.
