A lot of odds and ends catch up stuff around the house. Had been nice temps the past couple mornings(48 this morning), but warmed up a bit more today. Need to do some shooting and check our 11 year old out with the wife's .243 to see how far I feel comfortable letting her shoot for the youth hunt the last weekend in October. Our fall shotgun turkey opens tomorrow, pretty sure I could whack a hen if I could sit long enough but don't know if I will even try, especially with the warmer temps. Need to do some organizing and cleaning in my garage and make some rodent control measures.

A fillet knife or two are used a lot between cutting out the inner loins, the backstraps, and then the kitchen trimming. Also gotta agree on getting out the inner loins asap and then taking out the backstraps. I never put them in the cooler with the rest of the meat, they go directly into a meat tub and into the fridge. If by chance we get a deer and temps permit, I will let them hang, but that does not happen often here.

Power of the pen. May well be that Trump will dismantle the aca(obamacare) by bits and pieces through executive action. Shame congress could not get their crap together for their constituents to fulfill the promises they have been making for years. Fire all the lousy liars!

Yep, gotta agree with Tim on that. Skeeters are so bad here right now thermacell does not stop them. A face mask or head net is about the only way to keep them off your face and out of your ears. Then here too you have everything so thick still and the rotten lowbellies are very active making tracking on your hands and knees a bit nerve racking.

Never have had an issue with ice touching the meat causing any issues.

Done our own since about 2003. No walk in here either, but someday will have a walk in of some sort in my basement. Usually do 3 or 4 a year. I use the tractor bucket to gut deer, get them to just the right height that I don't have to bend down. Then take them in the garage and hang them tail up to skin them out. Once skinned or caped out I take out the backstraps and inner loins. Then just quarter them up, a portable recip saw with a bimetal blade is very handy for cutting off the legs. I pack ours in a cooler on ice and change the ice out drain the water out daily for about a week or so. We also are very careful to wash everything with the water hose before it goes in the cooler, to get any bone dust or hair off the meat. Then the most time consuming part is cutting it all up and packing it, we package everything except ground we give away in food saver bags. Give away grind goes in 1 lb sleeves. Cannot have too much ice in your freezer during deer season if you dont have access to a walk in. We use rubber maid plastic food storage tubs for our meat tubs, can get nearly 10 lbs in each one. Fridge space can be an issue if you have a family so we try to process from the cooler as quickly as possible to the freezer, but a lot of the stuff that has to be trimmed until you are ready to grind will take up some space. I need a new cooler this year.

That is funny Jerry, but man be careful.

Sad, but got a laugh out of it. Sounds about right though.

Went to hand broadcast in some clover to finish off a plot this morning and right where i needed to start saw what i thought was a stick until i got closer. Hate these things. Third one i have seen since yesterday. Dog killed one under our front porch a couple days ago. Usually see more water moccasins.

Yeah, real early for here where the rut is about a month away yet. Usually get into some sparring here that picks up near the end of October. Whatever buck did that to him had to have been a pretty decent buck. I don't think the smaller 8 point at the minerals is the guilty party, we have yet to get pics of anything bigger bodied or heavier antlered.

Nice swamp buck Frank. Congratulations. Been turned around before tracking in the river bottom(swamps) here, easy to do in the dark where the willows and cover are so thick in the early season.

Welcome to the forums. Not sure cabelas has a line of womens snake boots, but you can cross the mens sizing charts. I have the pinnacle snake boots, been pretty happy with them. They do leak a little now if you get in water past ankle deep, but have had them for several seasons.

Had this unique buck I said I wanted to see his left side in person. Guessed he was darned near 18 inches inside, but he is only a six point. He is on the left in the picture below. With the 2 buck limit hopefully he makes it through to next season. Don't usually see full fighting this early, hope the buck that busted him up comes around.

Got the clover and wintergrazer rye plot in, but ran a little short on the clover seed. Put down 10 lbs of clover, need about a lb more to finish one little strip about two half passes with the walk behind spreader. Had issues with the tow behind spreader gearbox with fertilizer, but worked through it. On to some welding projects tomorrow, need to build a 3 pt trailer mover and a heavy panel for cattle handling leading into headcatch chute. also need to add some pieces to my chute for a but bar to keep the cows from backing up.

Nope. Spam filter may be catching them

So dry here trees dropping leaves already. Doesn't seem like fall though. Not seen the fuzzy caterpillars crossing the roads yet either. Felt like summer this afternoon welding a new piece of pipe and parts back on my old tow behind spreader. Btw "jd" stuff sold at Lowe's and made by brinly hardy is junk.

Things are crazy dry here. Kinda glad i hadnt planted my fall plot yet. We do have rain in the forecast for the weekend and upcoming week though so gonna try to get my clover and rye plot in tomorrow morning. Had planned on putting in about 200 lbs of the wintergrazer rye in a section of pasture but am doubtful i get to that. Have a couple welding projects to try to work on that i can work on in the garage. Pull behind spreader had the main bar break last weekend while spreading lime, if i don't get it patched together and working plots won't go in. Doubtful i will be doing any hunting but may try to shoot a hen with the crossbow if i can get a chance to.

Welcome to the forums. Dunno about those areas, but would look for a property with a mix of land features in the area. If there are a lot of ag crops in the area and you find a pocket of wooded ground you could do real well. Good luck.

Very nice buck. Congratulations.

Yep. Had been a member of the tndeer forum a loooong time ago and when I went back had to create a new user. Long story short there are a lot of jerks over there that make guys like me feel not welcome, even some of the mods there are let free to bash members, not the place for me. This place even as slow as it is is still the best hunting forum.

Go on and signup Lewis. If we can get enough to make even additions, will add a member to each team.

Thank you all for the prayers.

Nice work Jerry, did you make the baseboards or buy them like that? Playing catch up here. Did some lawnwork yesterday and worked on fall plot prep. Spread lime and firmed up and dragged off plot. Had a band competition Saturday. Kids out this week for fall break.

Spammer bringin life back to this place, maybe let em slide? lol. Put a metal roof on our log home when we had it built. Unfortunately don't think our contractor knew what the heck he was doing. Having issues with venting in the winter with moisture building inside attic space on the roofing screws and causing dripping into the house. Need to find a reputable roofer to fix it, more $ out of our pockets to fix our contractors screw ups.

Good one Martin. Hope that piece of garbage does not get protection in the pen.
