    Touchy topic

Great pre season post Dave. Honestly think there is a real fine line and like anything everyone's opinion will vary and the list of what is and is not ethical could go on and on on many aspects of differing regs for different states. What is ethically right to some is not gonna be ethically right to others, and think the regs may actually influence that to some extent. I mean if you live where the regs have consistently allowed something then it may be more accepted as where if you live somewhere it has never been allowed then it may be viewed a little differently, such as dog driving deer, baiting, etc... I have to look at myself in the mirror each day, and if I take a deer I am going to remember the details of that hunt and will take that with me. I see a lot before and after legal shooting light, and have had some opportunities on a couple nice deer that only I would have known, but I would have known. We don't see deer from the house quite like we used to. Of course we could bait in our yard like some do and that would be legal so long as we did not hunt over it. We have a friend/member of our church that came from Ohio and guess baiting is legal there. He baits in his yard which lures deer to the bait, he killed a real nice deer one morning coming from the bait at his home back to cover, so he was not technically hunting over the bait. Basically in my opinion that is manipulating a situation, but is that much different than having food plots, or fruit trees? Guess if it is with a timed feeder then the answer in my opinion is that is a little different than free feeding. Road hunting is an issue everywhere, it is disgusting and I only wish that our wardens were not stretched so thin. Our warden a couple years ago told me about a deer that was causing a lot of problems on a road less than a mile away from here as a crow flies. I drive the very same road every day taking my kids to school. I actually saw a 130 plus buck heading our way in beans just a little further up that road last week on the drive taking my kids to school. Tennessee changed some of the regs in regards to allowing hunting from stationary non road vehicles, tractors atv's, or utv's. You can legally "hunt" and shoot from a stationary tractor, utv, or atv. Deer do not usually get too boogered out when they see me on my tractor, but I am not gonna drive it around and shoot from it. Sure some do, I only have 60 acres and would not get very far. Use of some tech and putting more knowledge in your arsenal is ok with me. I take advantage of weather apps and maps, take advantage of trail cams which let me know I am hunting for a top caliber deer in my area and not hunting a non existent animal. Of course just because you have trail cam pics of a deer in July or August does not mean that deer will still be anywhere near your small tract come October and November, but at least you can get a little better idea of what you are expecting to see and maybe even get a good enough look to guesstimate some ages on deer if that is your goal to take older age class bucks. Ultimately each person is gonna have a little different perspective, does not necessarily make it right or wrong but they have to live with their decisions. Sadly to some it is just a kill and they don't give it much thought after they pull the trigger, we live in a little different society than it was 30 years ago.
  2. Been pretty happy with cabelas gloves here. For cold season use a pair of their fleece thinsulate goretex shooting gloves. Size ran right on them for me.
  3. Congratulations to your daughter, sounds like she is quite the slugger. Probably gonna work on my truck and do some yardwork.
  4. Some nice shots there Dave and cool assortment of tc pics too. Don't know a lot about sheep, but man those last two rams look like they have some seriously heavy horns.
  5. Very nice Ross. You got the last one made in the series, are they done with their production?
  6. Got rye ordered, probably going to sow some in to standing bean plots near the end of September. Going to replant about an acre of clover and add rye grain to that plot. Current view from the new 2 person ladder stand. Need to take the pruner and do some trimming. Beans on the left side of the fence doing fairly well considering how dry it was in July.
  7. That is pretty interesting Frank. One of these days i am gonna get with the local state biologist and ask him about some that i know which deer they came from. Just out of curiosity how much did it run you per set to get those tested and did they send the teeth back to you?
  8. We have an ionic breeze type air filter. It generates "ozone" in the exchange process. I would probably try it in a closet for my hunting clothes if i had one. Also have considered just building a cedar lined closet since there are cedars all over our property.
  9. Saw that too. Been for the most part uploading them directly here. No idea if my uploaded pics i have linked from photobucket here are the same way. A few other places i have lost all my pics. Had several pages over at Jesse's hunting and they are all gone. At least here we got some warning before they dumped them. Think i have 30 some odd pages of pics at photo bucket and Catrina has an account there too. Oh well.
  10. Got the ladder stand in the bottom swapped out with the two person ladder stand over the weekend. Thought both stands were 15 ft, but the single stand sat on the tree about 3 ft higher. Gonna need a little trimming there and probably gonna use an artificial Christmas tree to help add some back cover. Might have to figure out a better option for a shooting rail for the kids with that stand, the rail is not sturdy enough. Soybean plot in the bottom with the extra moisture down there is thriving despite having very little rain over the month of July. Not sure where I am putting that other ladder stand, have a few hang ons I also need to get out this next week or so. Played around with the seating depth on some reloads after picking up a hornady oal gauge and bullet comparator a while back. Got the scope on my .308 dialed in with my handloaded hornady eld-x rounds yesterday afternoon. Shot the .270 with eld-x rounds a few weeks ago, pretty happy with those groupings. Gonna have to save a few milk jugs to test bullet performance in the next coming weeks. Was not happy with the game king bullet performance at 150 yards for the .308, excellent accuracy but the bullets came apart too much for my liking, hopefully these eld's hold together at closer ranges a little better. Still undecided on how much clover and rye grain I am gonna put in this fall, but have to get that seed ordered soon.
  11. Can usually pickup the new handbooks at the end of July here, have yet to lay my hands on one. Walmart had none the past few times I have been in there. I checked online though and appears there are no real changes for us. Allowed 2 bucks total statewide. Being a landowner hunting my farmland I am still allowed to kill 3 does per day from archery opener on Sept 23rd on up until season end Jan 8th with no license required. Only exclusion to that is the youth hunt weekend during which the season is closed to all hunters except the youth deer hunters. After season closes in January there is another week of special "antlerless" on private lands. In this state you get your hunting and fishing license in the spring and then can add the different weapon endorsements; big game archery, big game muzzleloader, and big game gun(covers spring and fall turkey as well), then you can get a supplemental type 94 to allow you to kill up to 3 does per day during the gun season. With having taken my buck limit last year, will likely have a little higher self imposed limits on what I will be willing to take this year. There was a pretty special buck that we got pics of after season ended last year, with no pics of him I have no idea if he is still around our area this year, but I should know if I see him.
  12. No definitive plans here. My mother spent 4 days in the hospital the start of this week for congestive heart failure issues, tried to spend as much time there as I could. She got released yesterday to a therapy and rehab center. I have gotten that much further behind on things around here and at this point not really even worried about catching up on things. Probably spend some more time visiting with her tomorrow after the girls are done at the riding academy. We did have one morning in the upper 50's here earlier this week, felt real nice and was not so humid. Back to humid and warm now though and most the rain has missed us. Parts of our pastures and the bermuda in our yard are burnt up but the other parts of the yard the grass will need mowed again soon.

    Thunder chicken

lol. heard that story before, still funny.
  14. Agree with everything you said here Dave. The govt never should have gotten into a takeover of health care in the first place. Corruption and greed rule politics, these elected officials get into office and forget the people they were elected to represent.
  15. Still using photobucket here Shaun, and yeah it is pretty aggravating how the ads bloat that site. A lot of the time anymore I upload pics directly here.
  16. Try this https://forums.realtree.com/blogs/
  17. Sounds like an exciting opportunity Ross. Have fun.

    10 years already

Here's to 10 more Corey. Coming up on 17 years here.
  19. On my laptop there is a tab near the top of the screen. I don't see an option on my phone.
  20. Don't know what happened to them Corey, but they do still work to post new. I just saw there was a spam blog posted. I don't see any of the old blogs though, will have to let Scott know. I thought they were still there after the migration from the old forum platform.
  21. Keep on doing the live hunts Tim. Sure most of us still here enjoy following along.
  22. Looks like you are in for a great season Ruth. Some real nice bucks there.
  23. Good luck with it Jerry. Have not seen the new handbook here yet, but imagine we are still in the liberal 3 doe a day unit.
