    Whatta you think

Re: Whatta you think Texan, I gotta disagree with you on part of that.As long as we are spending billions of dollars in other countries in relief, aid, and sometimes such as the Tsunamis we spend this much almost on the spur of the moment. Yet we gotta sell hundreds of thousands of acres of public grounds to support public education programs here in our own country?Somethings way outta wack there and it doesnt have much to do with spotted owls.

    The Food Network

Re: The Food Network I watch it quite a bit.Emiril was even cooking a deer backstrap on there one night and Im still hungry for it
  4. Got this outta Field&Stream Even for an administration that takes perverse pride in sneering at the term "conservation," this latest news is a shocker: President Bush's 2007 budget includes an order to the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management to sell off as much as 800,000 acres of national lands to generate money for public schools. The proposal directs the agencies to raise nearly $1 billion for the federal treasury by selling more than 300,000 acres of national forest and up to 500,000 acres of BLM lands, mostly in western states. The sale was ordered to help fund a federal program that since 1908 has sent revenues from timber sales to rural counties to support, among other things, school programs. But as timber sales have steadily fallen over recent decades, the funding has dried up - so the administration wants to sell pieces of public recreation land to make up the difference. Forest Service and BLM officials maintain most of the lands in question are small, isolated parcels, usually surrounded by private property and, hence, "difficult to manage." However the complete list of forest lands (http://www.fs.fed.us/land/staff/spd.html) shows most parcels are more than 40 acres and many are in the hundreds of acres. The BLM has not listed the lands it will sell. That many of these acres are scattered among private land holdings makes them even more important to a sporting public that repeatedly lists "lack of access to habitat" as the main reason they're dropping out of hunting and shooting sports. For example: Depending on the quality of habitat and the adjacent holdings, wild turkeys can flourish on as little as 400 acres (source) Squirrels need as little as one acre (source) Bobwhite quail can have a happy life on 40 acres (source) Cottontail rabbits can flourish on 20 to 100 acres (source) And many deer hunters would love to have the one square mile (640 acres) of home range whitetails seldom stray beyond (source) While sportsman's groups have been largely silent on the issue, the proposal has drawn sharp rebukes from environmental groups and newspapers nationwide. Their two biggest concerns should make any hunter or angler very worried. First, the proposal includes the first-ever directive to public land agencies to raise money by selling public property. Both the Forest Service and the BLM have been given targets of how much money must be raised and given to the general treasury. Clearly this sets a dangerous precedent - and makes prophets of environmental groups that have long claimed the Bush administration's goal is to sell public property, not manage it. Second, the idea of selling assets to fund recurring expenses doesn't solve the problem, only creates an addiction that will require more sales in the future. And while the administration says the sales will be subject to the public review process, it fails to mention that this process isn't a public vote. After an agency listens to the public's wishes, it will do whatever the administration tells it to - as this White House proved when it ditched the Roadless Rule in spite overwhelming opposition at public hearings.

    Rape

Re: Rape [ QUOTE ] These types of guys wouldn't hesitate to mix the girls drink a bit stronger than their own, or slip a rape drug into a girls drink, if they had it available at the time. I should have worded my response differently. [/ QUOTE ] No Buckee, I knew what you were saying, I was just pointing out theres always two sides to these date rape stories. You worded it just fine. Nuts got a good point as well.I was watching Dateline or something like that the other night. There was a guy on there that started seeing a young girl when they were in school. He was something like 16 and she was something like 14 I believe.Anyway theyd been having sex legally since theye were both minors for 2 years but as soon as he turned 18 her parents had him arrested for statutory rape. He now has to register as a sex offender and has been re arrested for going into as highschool with some friends of his I guesse.Dateline pretty much tried to play him off as some sort of violent sexual predator and ran his story alongside stories of much older men trying to pick up 13 yr olds online. In reality he didnt do anything I didnt do and Ive now got 3 kids and have been with my wife now for around 14 years.Suprise, she was 16 and I was 18 the first time we had sex.Every stories different and we shouldnt be so quick to lump all these people into one catagory.

    Rape

Re: Rape [ QUOTE ] Those types of guys are first time rapists as far as I'm concerned. They just don't have the guts yet to admit they are Rapists, and want to hide behind the "we were drunk..Plee"...OR... they have convinced themselves that if they get the girl drunk enough to go along, without making a fuss, it isn't really rape. It's the beginnings of a serious offender. [/ QUOTE ] Or theres another possibility your leaving out. They really were drunk, they really did have consentual sex, and the girls either feeling remorse about it/cant remember what happened/or sees it as a way to make some $$$ in a civil suit down the road.Thats not much of a stretch of the imagination in this lawsuit happy country anymore.I think a lotta cases like this the guy gets all the responsibility placed on him and the fact that the girl was drunk and wild gets overlooked.
  8. Re: Just for those who hate Wal-Mart wtn, I was more refering to other chain stores, not so much supermarkets.Within a year of Walmart showing up here we had a huge K Mart close along with a Shopko and most of the other stores in the Mall. As far as food prices go Walmarts so close on them that it doesnt affect the supermarkets much and Walmarts meat sucks so bad most people go to a different store anyway I actually dont hate walmart, in most posts Im defending it.But I know theres a lotta people that work there just because its the only place hiring in a lotta rural areas, its not because they want to work there.
  9. Re: Just for those who hate Wal-Mart [ QUOTE ] Every point you make basically just ignores the fact that people who work there choose to do so [/ QUOTE ] wacoyote, you fail to take into account that in a lot of areas, escpecially rural areas, Walmarts just about all thats left.Theres a difference between wanting to work somewhere and being forced to work somewhere because theres no other options.Escpecially when you take into account the effect Walmart has on other businuesses every time it comes into an area. When it moved into the town next to ours store after store closed untill Walmart was the only place left.Say what you want about free enterprise but other companies cant compete when faced with Walmarts budget, they go broke trying. Its not nearly as cut a dried as you seem to think.
  10. Re: Partial birth abortion law Good post Reloader.Preventetive abortions to save a life Im not familiar with either.Im sure they happen occasionaly but Ive never heard of one first hand.Usually its an emegency deal where they can save either the mother or baby. The baby I lost with no kidneys was very very much alive, so a lotta folks would have said that was wrong to.Remember, my only argument is with the folks who said its wrong under any circumstances. We actually got to hold him after he was born and he died a couple hours after birth in my arms. And technicaly this woulda been a partial birth abortion as well I suppose. If you work with rape victims and speak for them in court thats good enough for me, i wont question you on it again.I think we actually agree on a lot more then it first appeared, were just going at it from 2 different angles.Anyway, its been a interesting post but I think Im gonna drop out of it now while everyones still on friendly terms LOL
  11. Re: Partial birth abortion law [ QUOTE ] By the way your way of informing kids about sex and having so-called safe sex hasn't worked, kids are getting pregnant(and having abortions)in record numbers. [/ QUOTE ] Thats the whole point, what happens when you take birth control entirely off the table and expect lectures to keep them safe?Nobody said educating them was wrong, the whole point was a lotta them are still gonna give in no matter how good the parenting is.
  12. Re: Songs that should never have existed [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Anything by Waylon Jennings Jonny Cash George Jones Merle Haggard Willie Nelson and David Allen Coe [/ QUOTE ]WHAT? These guys are to country what Skynard was to southern rock. [/ QUOTE ] Don't like Skynard either [/ QUOTE ] That just aint right
  13. Re: Partial birth abortion law Reloader, Im glad you waited, I really mean that , but how many people are in this forum and your the only one so far thats honestly said they waited. Ill ask it again, birth controls not 100% effective at stopping pregnancy and STDs.But what happens to the odds when you take birth control completey outta the picture as an option? You think these kids are just gonna stop having sex because you tell em to? Back to the topic?Do you see where I ever said partial birth abortion is right?Do you see where I ever said abortion as a form of birth control is right? Do you really feel qualified to speak for rape victims? And despite admitting doctors documenting this you really believe theres never been any cases where the life of mother and child are at risk?Thats funny cuz my mom almost bleed out when she was pregnant with my sister and something tore loose. She lost the baby while they were trying to save her, it was one or the other.I also lost a son that was going to be born with no kidneys. He wouldnt have lasted more than a few hours after birth anyway you looked at it.We decided to deliever early{abort the pregnancy} rather then putting my wife through 9 months of carrying a dead baby and putting my kids through 9 months of expecting a baby that was never gonna come home from the hospital.Like I said, theres a lotta cicumstances youve never been put into to find out what youd do.A lotta things you cant get from studies and books. So dont be so quick to judge and lump everyone together in one catagory.
  14. Re: Partial birth abortion law [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Yep Ive noticed that to Steve. Also noticed that the same ones against all forms of abortion are also totaly against providing birth control to young people.Apparently theres lots of illogical people out there [/ QUOTE ] That's because there is a Morality problem in the world Horst. You can't fix that with rubber and the murders of the innocent. [/ QUOTE ] And now your back to the hypocritical aspect of things.Everyone in here had sex before marriage Id guesse.Id also bet a lotta of us had unprotected pre-marital sex.Now that some of you found relgion its a Moralitry problem.Sorry, I cant go along with that. Its not just one sides argument that doesnt make any sense Buckee, neither sidesdoes. You all just cant see it cause your so convinced your right.
  15. Re: Partial birth abortion law [ QUOTE ] hey horst. ever notice how those who love abortion and agree we must have it available to all wome, are totally against the death penalty for a convicted rapist or murderer? o.k. to kill kids, but not murderers? i think someone is backwards here. [/ QUOTE ] Yep Ive noticed that to Steve. Also noticed that the same ones against all forms of abortion are also totaly against providing birth control to young people.Apparently theres lots of illogical people out there
  16. Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL Honestly a couple years ago I never bothered much with writing my elected officials.Thats changed and Ive got all thier email addresses and then some stored{before my puter crashed anyway ]Also I didnt respond to the poll on the front page, I imagine thiers others that didnt as well on both ends of the issue.
  17. Re: A day is coming... I think **** is seeing this post brought back to life
  18. Re: Partial birth abortion law You guys are misunderstanding what Im getting at and it all goes back to a comment in my earlier post.Ill agree, abortion when just used as birth control is wrong. My only problem is with the holier than though types who come across saying abortions wrong under any circumstances.Thier talking about a lot of things theyve never dealt with personally and that doesnt make them eligible to judge anyone IMO.Its all about circumstanses.
  19. Re: Survivorman I seen that one and one where he was out in the desert.Theres actually some pretty good tricks in there, his home made fish trap got him a turtle to eat and eating the rattlesnake was something a lotta people probably wouldnt have thought of. The episode in the desert was better though, the sheer amount of edible plants and stuff he found out there was amazing. As far as having a broken lighter and stuff handy its not to far of a stretch,I quit smoking 6 months ago or better and still have lighters inn most of my coats alongside snotty tissues from my kids And it was after all just a tip on how a fire could be started, he shows different ways in diferent episodes Im sure.
  20. Re: Prophylactics in schools and if he was to have sex without a condom with the same girl are his chances of contracting it better or worse??
  21. Re: Partial birth abortion law [ QUOTE ] Having a different oppinion on an inoccent baby and a murderer and rapist is not hypocritical at all they're two seperate issues. [/ QUOTE ] John, what the person did isnt the issue, its the act of killing them thats the same. How many innocent people have been killed in the name of religion throughout history? How many in the name of christianity? The only difference is if you tell someone their killing for a good reason they can justify it in thier own mind, just like everyone in here seems to be able to do.Im no different , I can easily justify taking the life of a terrorist or rapist, child molestor or a murder. But Im not gonna delude myself into thinking killing anyone for one reasons better than killing a person for a different reason. The end results the same, your taking a life.Im just as hypocritical as the next person when it comes to this but Im not gonna skirt around it try to rationalize it like so many of you seem to have to do.
  22. Re: Partial birth abortion law There is a certain amount of hypocrisy that comes with any discussion of taking a human life.Right now your talking about abortion and the majority view in here on that is its wrong under any circumstances. Yet if were discussing the war where thousands have been killed under the orders of our government the majority view shifts and the taking of human lifes a neccasary evil.Even a certain amount of innocent bystanders getting killed is accaptable then. And shift the topic to the death penalty and again, the same ones that are dead set againt abortion are all in favor of it.And thats where the holier than though attitude comes out in a lotta people, they only use the religous arguments against murder when it suits them. I know, your gonna come back with a "if you cant see the difference" argument so save your breath, theres no difference if your preaching against taking a human life.Remember, your the ones claiming its murder under any circumstances, those circumstances cover a lotta ground.
  23. Re: Any home improvement specialists out there?? [ QUOTE ] biggest thing is starting out square with the wall and the ceiling. to do the mouldings, if you do crown, always cut it upside down. I like to make a jig to hold the moulding at the proper angle so it's alway uniform. With the plywood, just square it off the floor. hold it up 1 inch so the base will cover it. hold the plywood down 1 inch from the ceiling so the crown will cover it. Then you just cut it into the corners. Here is a tip from a kitchen installer, when you need to take a little off and a saw won't be the ticket, use a belt sander. Just hold it vertical to the plywood and run it back and forth working the material away to the line. GL [/ QUOTE ] Very good advice thier, escpecially the belt sander part.If you get started crooked it will be a nightmare, the secret is all in getting the first piece up level and square
  24. Re: Prophylactics in schools [ QUOTE ] Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Buckee, kids are gonna do it anyway. At least they should be taught to do it safely. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's the lazy parents way out [/ QUOTE ] No thats just being realistic.I dont care how good of parent you are, at some point your kids gonna test you.You preach abstinence all the time its just gonna make em wonder what the fuss is about and wanna find out for themselves.Maybe some of you dont remember being over run with hormones at that age but it doesnt neccasarily make for good decision making.Id rather have the condom option there for my kids then have them getting pregnant or impregnating someone elses and possibly ruining the rest of thier lives.
  25. Re: non hunters are so racist Shoulda just sighed, shook your head, then reached over and gave him a hug. That always leaves people confused
