Re: old playground/growing up words/phrases [ QUOTE ] We used to play CHICKEN on the monkey bars. 2 kids start on opposite ends of the monkey bars and then hang under the bars and try to wrap their legs around the other kid and bring the other kid "down". Lost a tooth in 3rd grade doing that. Prissy little brat that I was up against had her stupid patten leather shoes on. ( And in a dress too. ) [/ QUOTE ] You got beat up by a girl thats something we used o say when, well, someone got beat up by a girl

Re: The Mirror Effect.... Oh we dont disagree on that at all John, matter of fact I never even touched on kids attitudes today.Kids today also know most adults cant touch em. even as recently as 13 yrs ago you could still get away with whopping your kid on the butt in the grocery store.Try that today and the security video will make national television and youll be in jail before you can leave the store.Kids have nothing to fear from adults anymore and Im well aware theres a big increase in the number of them whos attitudes show it.I only graduated 15 years ago and i remember the superintendant having a paddle, and using it.A teacher cant even grab a kid by the arm now without charges being filed or losing thier job. Were also in a funny state right now where kids have no idea how the real world works. They can get away with it now but when theyre outta school its gonna come back to haunt em real fast.Theyre treated with kid gloves all the way through school anymore, even sports {Elementary} are set up so they dont get thier feelings hurt. Its not just the parents, the schools, or the laws, society as a whole is responsible for these kids lousy attitudes and were just setting them up for failure the more we baby and protect them.At least thats the way I see it, I could be wrong.

Re: House Finale... Dont suppose anyone taped it I had a concert for the kids and missed it Then little Joey was being ornery and I missed the concert

Re: The Mirror Effect.... I guesse I see it a lot differently than you.Things arent all that much worse then they were in the past. They are a lot more sensationalized in the media and some things have gotten worse but a lotta what you talk abouts nothing new, its just repeated over and over every day now. Kids have been killing each other in our inner cities forever.Im not trying to be racist or stereotypical but seriously, when it was just the black kids, latino kids, and lower class white kids doing it very little was ever reported about it or even done about it.It wasnt untill a few middle or upper class white kids did it that the media turned it into a epidemic. Drugs are nothing new, theyve been around and teens have been doing them for years.I dont have any statistics but drug use in teens has I believe dropped since the 1960s and 70s.Kids are better informed about them and the governments doing more to prevent them now.Theres more kinds of drugs available then there were but not neccassarily as many kids doing them. Pornographies always been around, its easier to obtain now with the internet but its nothing new either. Besides the media theres also a "I did it but you shouldnt" attitude. As people get older they tend to think the same things they did as youths, drinking, sex, drugs, whatever it was are somehow more immorral because a different generations doing them. While Im not saying any of things are good things to do. I am honest enough with myself to realize they arent any worse now then they were 15 years ago.A lot of people cant come to terms with that and want to pretend thier somehow more rampant then they used to be. I think the saddest thing about the way this countries headed is the fact that the medias sensationalizing of all these things is only giving the people what they want to read.Worse then our drinking, drugs, sex, or violence is our need to hear about other peoples misfortunes, its what sells and thats what they keep shoveling us.Before anyone takes offense to anything I posted remember, I never condoned anything and I never said they didnt happen, i just said theyre not that much worse then they ever were.

Re: Britney Spears I havent even heard her sing since Whoops i did it again to the best of my knowledge
-
Re: Britney Spears So huntingirl, you have never had a kid in the car with no seatbelt on?Maybe just to run to the nieghbors or over to the gas station for a second?Or had to take one of your kids to the ER cuz they fell and broke a bone or sprained something?Being famous doesnt change the fact she hasnt done nothing 90% of the "good parents" in this country havent done themselves. But thier the same ones standing in the checkout line at the store reading this crap off the cover of some tabloid magazine, talking about how disgracefull it is then driving home with little Johnny jumping all over in the back seat.Says a lot about this country when all we got to worry about is how some singer and first time mother are raising thier kid doesnt it?
-
Re: Britney Spears I dont have much use for Brittany either but I will say this in her defense.I bet if the media decided to make you out to be an unfit parent and followed you constantly they could make anyone in here out to be just that and probably get photos of all of us doing stupid things. Not liking her music or what she does professionaly is one thing and pefectly understandable. But bashing her as a parent because of a few things the medias "unbiased" reporting has turned up is kind of a stretch IMHO.I can honestly say ive had kids on my lap in the car, drove without kids being in thier seatbelts, and taken kids to the emergency room with broken bones.Bet Im not the only one in here either.Im just glad nobody stalks me with a camera.

[ QUOTE ] A Ruthven man will spend three decades behinds bars for making and selling methamphetamine. U-S Attorney Charles Larson says 43-year old Jay Hessman received the 30-year sentence in federal court in Sioux City on Monday. Hessman was convicted of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute over 5-grams of meth in November. He was reportedly involved in a conspiracy to make and sell meth between March and May of 2000 in the Ruthven and Fort Dodge areas. Hessman was arrested after a search of his home on Scott Street on May 14, 2000. His neighbors reported smelling a strong odor of ether and contacted the Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office. Authorities found meth precursors, a methamphetamine recipe and other items used to make the drug. Testimony revealed Hessman had three prior drug convictions and met one of his co-conspirators while serving time in state prison. He must serve an 8-year term of supervised release after completing his 30-year prison term. Hessman is being held by U-S Marshals awaiting transport to a federal prison [/ QUOTE ] This loser was cooking meth about 2 blocks from my house. They actually raided him, and caught him in the act 2 other times.Once he cut a deal and turned someone else in, the second time the police screwed up the warrant and they had to let him off. With 3 prior convictions maybe he will do the full 30 this time instead of being out in 10 Or maybe the guy he turned in will be in the same cell hes in, either way hes outta my town for a long time

Re: going to city hall Things didnt change much, they apologized about the van but then told me my boat trailer was unlicensed. The funny part about that is my cousin that works for the city has the boat that belongs on it down at the sewer ponds where he borrowed it to do somew work for the city last fall He said over 50 letters had been sent out concerning burning barrels and unlicensed vehichles/trailers.Then he told me to give them an estimate on a roof Must of been trying to smooth things over with me Anyway, I told him Id worry about my stuff as soon as the people on the city payroll started worrying about thiers, that should get my cousin in trouble Teach him to laugh at me.On the bright side Im not in jail and Ill find out tuesday after the city council meeting what thier doing with that roof

Re: UPS-Thanks a lot That stinks, but I gotta wonder, what would a thief do with lawnmower parts Hed probably have to go buy a mower to use them on
-
Re: going to city hall I honestly wish it was a nieghbor but its not the case. Our city council decided to promote economixc development in this town they needed to clean it up first. It sounds great but in reality its turned into a nightmare for the people in town.Heres what theyve done. Despite the fact that they have 2 people on the payroll who more or less just drive around all day anyway they hired what they call a nuisance officer. His job is to drive around and look for things in peoples yards that shouldnt be there. Our towns got less then 2000 people in it so that took all of about 15 minutes. Now he has nothing better to do than nit pick about stupid things. Add in the fact I seen him going through my yard one day and went out and had a argument with him, then threw him outta my yard which he had no legal right to be in to start with and now we have a nuisance officer that doesnt like me much. So while the banker, city worker, and the mayors friends and family get things overlooked i get tickets for the same things. He even reported me for animal cruelty once because I had a wiemeriener in the dog pen.Theyre a pretty skinny wormy looking dog anyway and he claimed I wasnt feeding them. The lab in the same pen wieghed over 120 lbs and my little lap dog looked like a turkey he was so fat but he reported it anyway.Luckily the cop was also a dog breeder and knew the other guy was full of crap Anyway, 30 minutes till my meeting

About a month ago I got a letter from the city.I deserved it, I had a bunch of oddball stuff lying around the yard, leftover construction materials, some garbage bags the got buried in the snow and never set out for garbage day last year, broken lawnmower etc...I complied, cleaned everything up, bought a new mower, mowed, weed wacked, etc... got the yard looking good. While I was mowing I moved our van around back to the alley and pulled it in behind my garage. We dont drive it much anymore but its legally licensed and runs good, just kind of an extra vehichle in case one of our other ones quits running. Its outta sight, and not blocking the alley. Also theres 2 burning barrels for sticks and stuff back there. Yesterday I get the mail and theres another letter from the city Now there just harrassing me.They want the van outta there, which isnt gonna happen since its both legally licensed and in operable order according to the city ordinace. The second part was about the barrels.I was driving through town last night and stopped at a few houses to visit. My banker, a friend of the mayors, and one of the city employees all had barrels in there yards.I also counted over 24 other burmning barrels that were visible from the road.Nobody else had recieved a letter about them that Ive talked with so far Why wouldnt the banker, the mayors buddy, and the city employe have gotten the same letter? The city employee also has a truck he doesnt drive parked in the entrance to the alley, it blocks the whole alley so you cant get down it.It hasnt moved in months but nobodies said a word.He also happens to be my cousin and finds this whole issue to be terribly amusing. So I asked him when the mayor would be in, and tonight after 4:00 Iget a chance to visit with him.I graduated with the mayor but were not exactly buddies so I dont know how this meetings gonna go. I know one thing, Im gonna tell him to send the sherriff down instead of sending me more letters in the future. If Im not in violation of anything that should be the end of it.And unless theres another 2 dozen nuisance letters on record about burning barrels Im not moving mine either, it seems to be just a little to coincidental that all the mayors buddies and the "important" people in town havent heard a word about theres.Sorry about the rant, I cant get into city hall till tonight so I thought maybe Id vent in here untill then If im not back by morning someone email my wife that Im in jail

Re: Pee Wee Herman.... [ QUOTE ] We need to be sensitive to these things even though we may or may not appove of his historic actions [/ QUOTE ] I dont think so, he was a very recognizable figure and he knew it, yet he got busted in a public place performing lewd acts.Id say that entitles anyone that wants to form thier own opinion of him, he brought it on himself.Being sensitive to someones feelings only goes so far

Re: Fixer upper Tried to get pics, apparently my cameras self destructed

About 1 1/2 months ago my sister asked me if i wanted a camper a friend of hers wanted to get rid of.He was up front with me, told me the roof leaked, there was some rot, and it was just an old pickup camper they had mounted on a trailer. Then he told me the price, and it was right. He just wanted someone to haul it out of his lawn We love camping but with little Joseph and the older two kids in a tent its been a pain.So I decided to take it and see if i could fix it up, nothing else the trailer underneath it is worth some $$ so Im not out anything. The top bed, where the camper would ordinarily sit on top of the truck cab was rotted out, and that was the biggest problem.I solved it by framing a floor up underneath it, then building a box that would also serve as a storage compartment to hold everything up.Then I got a bucket of Snow coat thats generally used for repairing flat roofs and started applying it over the existing roof.2 coats and the leaking stopped. Then I moved to the inside where the mice had decided to spend the winter, cleaned it all out, left all the windows and door open for a couple weeks, removed all the old mattresses and cushions and let them air out, then went over it all with every cleaning agent known to man Bought some pots, pans, and misc.. at garage sales, a 10$ coffee pot, and this weekend were gonna give it a trial run.Wish me luck, were gonna need it

I posted last week about the Walmart employee knocking the 2 box fans off the top shelf onto my wifes head/neck area. She been going to the chiropractor since and has a stiff neck, and headaches all the time.Despite that we werent interested in trying to sue them, we have been waiting for thier corporate office to call back regarding payment of the medical bills, all we wanted wanted was an address to send the bills to.After a week we had heard nothing so my wife calls them, apparently the store it happened at neglected to tell them medical treatment had been sought. They had to redo the claim but they finally called us back yesterday. We were told a couple suprising things.First, Walmarts liability insurance doesnt cover medical. Were responsible for the medical bills from this. Secondly after we pay the bills and send them copies of the bills theyll add it into the settlement, which we werent after to start with but only if Walmart deeems a settlement neccasary, Im serious, they actualy said this like they were the supreme court or something Then they went on to treat my wife like she caused the accident on purpose and she was some sort of criminal. You hear a lot about frivilous lawsuits but Ive come to realize, these companies actually push you into them.At this point Im gonna have to hire a lawyer just to make sure the medical bills get paid.If i have to get a lawyer though its not gonna stop with the medical, I cant believe they think they can treat people like this. And i cant understand why theyd take the chance on going to court rather then just pay a couple hundred dollars in medical expenses
