My view ...

The fall colors really are kicking in around there. We're still at 95% green down here. Sure wish we'd get some colder weather to help the brown. Great pics.

buck rubs

Generally, the higher the rub and the bigger the tree, the bigger the buck. That's not always the case because I've seen video to the contrary, but I'd wager a large percentage of the time that it is true.
3. Haven't had that problem in the Southeast corner. Have seen shooter bucks in the daylight hours and have several friends with them on trail cams during the daytime. Several around noon.
4. Got a young 8 point the other morning. Was hunting some public land and he came by at 8:15. I've got pics and tags so I'll get him entered later this week.
5. But be careful how you install it. From experience, a tight wrist sling can cause bow torque. You want it loose over your wrist.
6. Only got to hunt twice this past weekend. Nothing really much to report. Spooked a doe walking in Saturday evening. My buddy that was hunting about 500 yards from me on my family's land, saw a monster buck at about 2 hours before dark. Thought it was walking my way, but it wasn't.LOL Sunday morning we both got skunked. This Friday and Saturday is our Youth hunt so I'll be in a stand trying to get my 9 year old a deer. If he can get lucky and tag one Friday morning then I'll be hunting the rest of the weekend.
7. I lost one of the biggest bucks I've ever drawn down on shooting rages. Decent shot placement, decent blood trail but no deer. That being said, the worst blood trail I've ever followed came from a great shot with Muzzy's. I still shoot Rages. Stopped blaming my broadhead a long time ago. Rages do have a lot of bad experiences posted throughout the internet but you can expect that from the most popular broadhead. With the bloodtrails I'm getting, I'm sticking with 'em myself.
8. Sweet buck bud. Bet your buddy was thrilled. I did get lucky and score a doe this weekend. But my buddy took the pics with his camera and ended up taking the camera with him back to work(8 hours away). I'm not too worried. In the past 10 years, I don't think I've ever shot less than two deer in a season. Plus, I've got two straight weeks off the first of November that should hit the rut perfect.
9. I've got a four day weekend starting tomorrow. Temps are supposed to drop by at least 20 degrees so it should be a good weekend. The feeding chart doesn't look to promising but I'm hoping the cold temps trump it.
10. I hunt in the hot temps every year. Sure is nice to see the temps drop though. Will mean more hunters in the woods thats for sure.
11. Getting ready to hit the woods for the first time in 2012! Went to my Push county lease yesterday with a buddy. Put out three cameras and cut out four stand sites for Friday. Only saw six deer but one of them was a 140 class eight pointer.
12. Congrats! I hope to contribute Monday morning!
13. I agree. Loved watching Keegan rip that drive on 1. There's nothing quite like it.
14. A few pics from last weeks trail cams. Didn't make it out last night.
15. Hoping to check my cams this evening again. Also, I may run up to my Push County lease and put a couple of cameras out. I plan on hunting that area next Friday.
16. Enjoyed the pics and the updates. Sorry it didn't work out bud. Only one way to go and that's up. Good luck with the bow Monday!
17. You got 'em bud. Hope everything works out.
18. Good luck bud! I've got a couple of friends that make the trip annually. They haven't stuck a big one yet, but they shoot does every year. I think this is like their 4th trip in a row?
19. Only caught a couple young bucks on the cams Thursday. Just got back from Academy with a new cam, too. Plan on taking off next Monday to hunt our opener. Also playing hooky Friday!
20. Warming back up around here. Probably going to check my cameras this evening. This recent cool snap should have the deer moving and I'm to anxious to wait much longer!
21. Keep 'em coming guys! This isn't one of mine, but I'm sure my son will remember this one for as long as he lives. He'd been begging me to take him coyote hunting. He had bought mouth call at Wal-mart and loved practicing with it(much to my wife's disgust!). I finally broke down and took him one evening. We set-up on the edge of a clear cut in an old buddy stand about an hour before dark. Chase proceeded to use the call every few minutes. Like any father, I was feeling very proud that my son was being still and attentive instead of playing video games or sleeping. Chase continued his vigal for the next hour. About 15 minutes before official "dark", a pack of coyotes sounded off about a mile from us. Chase's eyes got very wide and I said, "There they are bud! They've probably been listening to you and now they're coming this way!". Chase looked at me and then back towards the direction the yelping was coming from. He waited a couple seconds and then looked back at me and said, "Dad, you ready to go home?"LOL I tried my best to talk him into staying but he was already headed down the ladder and there wasn't going to be any compromising. Even though we were about half a mile from our truck, through some thick woods, that boy lead the way and set the pace! LOL....just the look in his eyes when asked to go home makes me laugh to this day.
22. I was on a hunting lease in Honobia, Oklahoma(self proclaimed Bigfoot capital of America). The lease was 2 hours away and I had absolutely no cell service at camp. Had to drive 20 minutes up a mountain to call home. Anyway, middle of the week, I took vacation days and headed up to the lease by myself. At around 2:00 pm I left to go to my stand. On the way, I met a vehicle on the road. It was a late 80's, beat up Toyota with the short extended cab. The driver was wide-eyed(wired) when he looked at me. There was a girl sitting in the small back seat and it looked like she was rolling a "cigarette". I put my brakes on to stop hoping to find out what lease they were on or if they were lost. Keep in mind that this land is totally gated off. Instead of stopping, the truck floored it and took a left going up the side of the mountain. I laughed and continued on to my stand. Later on, I arrived at camp just after dark. I started a fire and began cooking my supper. It was then I got to thinking about the "trespassers". A lot of scenarios were going through my head. Drugs was high up on my conspiracy list. A few years earlier, a couple of guys at deer camp were confronted by two "druggies" who were looking for items to steal. They ended up killing the two hunters and getting caught. So needless to say, that was in the back of my mind. I went to bed that night with my Ruger .22 laying in bed beside me. At 3:00 am on the dot, I was awakened by the sound of someone knocking on my camper door. And when I say awakened, I mean it. I was asleep one second and wide awake the next. I lay there listening as someone or something slowly walked around the camper. When it passed by the window beside my head, I knew deep down that it was just a raccoon, but there was a little part of me that kept doubting. I never went back to sleep that night. Got dressed and went hunting that morning before daylight. But my "4 day" hunt, turned into a 2 day hunt and a quick trip back to home.LOL From that moment on, I never go to bow camp without a high powered rifle or pistol. That Ruger .22 just didn't make me feel as safe as I thought it would!
23. Walked within 50 yards of a black bear in the dark one morning. A lot of my friends carry a side arm in the woods, but I've never felt the need until that morning..lol.(still don't carry though). Unless its a full moon, though, I always have my light on. I hear a lot of guys saying that they don't use a light, but apparently they don't hunt flat land woods. Its extremely hard to find your tree in a 500 acre pine plantation where every tree looks the same and you can't use a creek or a hill as a landmark.
24. Put up my last buddy stand yesterday. Hoping to get my son his first deer this year. Decided not to check my cameras. Plan on leaving them out for at least two weeks without checking this time. Weather is starting to make my neck swell. High of 76 today. Overnight low this week in the 40's! That's awesome for Oklahoma this time of year.
25. LMAO....my garage was getting full of all those free ATV's...wife said I had to quit or she was leaving me.
