  1. Keep a reasonable level of personal cleanliness/hygiene and pay attention to the wind. All you need to do.

    funny how

I always get in way early and often hear deer walking right underneath............ I've often thought about just turning on the flashlight and satisfying my curiosity, but...................... You just KNOW it's gotta be a Booner...................
  3. I don't use any of them. Never have, really......... Shower, hunt high and be very mindful of your wind.
  4. I'm with Hoosier on this one. He's not more than 3.5, IMHO.
  5. Nice buck !! Ain't it great when a plan comes together ??

  8. Was off work last week to hunt. Spent 3 12 hour days Sat, Mon and Tue seeing very little deer activity and no mature bucks. Hunted til 10:30 Wed morning seeing absolutely nothing................so I went to the gun shops. Thursday was windy and raining so it turned into a "get stuff done around the house" day. Friday was back in the stand for an all day sit again. Saw three bucks through the morning and early afternoon and they were all three in cruise mode. A definite change from earlier in the week. At 5:10 a deep grunt came from my right and I could see a large bodied deer coming down off the ridgetop on to the flat I was set up on. He was 50-60 yards out. I glassed him and saw he had some antler so I grabbed the grunt tube and gave him one. He looked and took a couple steps my way. But stopped and turned to go away, I hit him with a couple more grunts and he stopped and looked again. But again walked away. He was behind a clump of big maples and I gave him a "whadda I got to lose?" series of grunts. He did a 180 and started in like he was on a string. He stopped broadside at 20 yards on a woods road and I was already at full draw. But vines and limbs............. I was moving up and down and side to side but just couldn't fins a hole. He began to walk out the road a few steps where it got even thicker and I feared he was going to walk on out the road and be gone. But he made a turn and headed off the road nearly straight for the bottom of my tree. I swung to an opening to my left and when he stepped in, I gave a quiet "mah" and he froze at 9 yards...............with a small tree neatly covering his vitals. He stood for a few seconds and began to take a step. As soon as he began to move, I touched the release and saw the hole open. He bolted off just out of sight and came the crash..............then quiet.

    First Frost!

You just keep it all up dere in da Great White North, eh ??
  13. Ballistics run about 100 fps behind the .308 Win. You're gonna LOVE your new gun !! I've got a pair of them..................one shooter............one safe queen. They are WAY COOL !!! For fun..................get yourself some 170grain lead cast bullets for the 30/30 and load them light with AA-5744 powder. GREAT for plinking.
  14. No more piles of poop on stuff in the barn til spring !!! Lol !!!
  15. The .223 headspaces on the shoulder So if you ran them through a properly adjusted resizing die, your missing length is just in the neck. They'll grow out with successive firings. The accuracy variation from the tiny differences in neck tension will be statistically insignificant unless you're intending to do some 1000 yard competition with your rifle. Load em and shoot em. Or better yet............box up all the short ones and send them to me !!!
  16. That's some good stuff right there !!!
  17. Yeah........... That's just not an option for me, though...........
  18. Haha !!!! All I'm getting right now is physical therapy 3X a week for a herniated disc. Not sure if there's gonna even BE a bow season for me this year so............. not getting too pumped up just now.
  19. 50 yard zero on my 22 LR. 100 yard zero on my 5mm Magnums but with ballistic dot reticles in the scopes.
  20. Steelforce Premium 100's........................again. If it ain't broke, I don't fix it. Been using these for quite a few years and cannot get over the accuracy at any speed (these are fixed blade, cut on contact) and the penetration. Plus they are USA made right here in my home state.
  21. WOW !!! Those are some fat ones !!! Only need about 100 more and you gotcher self a fish fry !!!
  22. Yeah..................... ummmmmm.................. no.
  23. They did outplay the Sharks...............BAD !!! The scores and stats from the final round make it LOOK a lot closer than it really was. CONGRATS to the Penguins !!!! 2016 Stanley Cup Champions !!!!! Now..........................what am I gonna watch between now and October........................ ????

    weapon of choice

All 5 bucks on my wall have fallen to arrows from my trusty, rusty, 15 year old Browning Eclipse SLX. As far as the "most deer".....................probably a stainless Ruger .300 Mag, even though I haven't carried it for 6 or 7 years. Ran a lot of freezer-filling missions with that rifle and a doe tag. Stack 'em up......................
