    BRrrrrrr!

10 or 11 below here last night. Think the high got up to 1 degree today with a good brisk (25-30mph) breeze. It's been way more foul here than that. Folks sorta blew it out of proportion. But I guess the weatherman has to justify his job every once in a while. The astounding thing was the 59 degree temperature drop in 24 hours !!! That's pretty much just nuts !!
  2. Pulled trailcam cards today. Seems there's 3 decent neckties hanging around a little clearing from time to time. See ya in May boys !!!
  3. ........... and my 9 year old daughter is out in the back yard in shorts and a raincoat catching nightcrawlers !!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS WEATHER !!!!!!!!
  4. I drive a UPS truck. Just walked in the door a few minutes ago. I am the ORIGINAL bah humbugger. As far as the commercialization goes................... if it makes you feel any better I started delivering Valentine's Day stuff end of last week. It ain't just Christmas.
  5. That is a STUD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATS !!!!!!!!
  6. I finally had to put my foot down and tell the boy he'd better find his OWN wall somewhere. He's done got mine about all used up !!!
  7. No. Not me. Lil downs yet another opening morning dandy !!! About an 80 yard heart shot with his .308 Win put this dude on the ground and also got him a ride to the taxidermist's shop.
  8. DANG !!!!!!! Yer makin me hungry !!!!!!
  9. Now THAT'S what I'm talkin about right there !!! Don't get no better !!!! Well played !! CONGRATS !!!!!!
  10. Wish I was on a Caribbean beach right now !!! I hear there's no snow there.
  11. I will say that a gallon of Monster or Red Bull has NOTHING on the rush you get from being chief negotiator in such a situation. Will also say to all the folks that EVER sneered at the OTPG and our choice of calibers that even Whomper does not feel any too big in one's hands when you can hear a bear grunting and growling somewhere in the 20 yard vicinity but can't see him. My buddy who originally hit the bear is 60-couple and a SUPER avid hunter. This is the first bear he ever had a chance at. He is tickled pink as the rest of us were tickled pink FOR him !!!! Great day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Pretty intense 15 minutes or so !!!!!!! One of our fellows hit a bear right after the starting bell on Saturday. It made its way into a 6 or 8 acre stand of overgrown spruce on a pretty good hillside. Lower limbs are about 18" off the ground so crawling is the only way through for a hunter. EXTREMELY dark in there at high noon on a sunny day.........not so much at 7:30 on a cloudy morning. We got the stand of spruce surrounded and yours truly (Whomper firmly in hand !!) goes in on hands and knees and belly to negotiate with the wounded bear. Me and Whomper won. We ended up with a 214 lb. boar and a first bear for VERY happy member of our group. Sorry about the tailgate pic. I charged my good camera overnight and left it at home. All the field pics are on my phone. The gentleman who started it is on the left of the bear. The fellow who finished it is on the right. The bear went rightfully to the man who hit it first.
  13. Winchester Super X2 or Super X3 !!! Have one of each. Both are 3 1/2" guns. Both are OUTSTANDING autos. Buy either one and have $500-$700 left over for ammo for what you'll pay for a Beretta or a Benelli.
  14. True. And you do NOT have to pay an arm & a leg to get a scope that will hold up under recoil. Even SEVERE recoil. If you are running a $30-$50 3-9 scope on your .22 you are just asking for problems. A CHEAP scope is just that. Cheap. For about $100 more, you can get into a scope that will hold up on pretty much whatever you want to mount it on. Stick with BRAND names................ Burris, Leupold, Redfield, Nikon, Pentax, Weaver and the Bushnells from the 3200 on up. Stuff like that. I am running 3 Weaver V10 2-10x38's. One is on a 5 3/4 lb .25-'06 One is on a Ruger .300 Win Mag One is on an 8 1/2 lb .375 Weatherby Mag. The .375 recoils with right about 4X the recoil energy of a .30-'06 and over 2 1/2X that of the .300 Win Mag.
  15. Some of those toms NEVER give up !!! Was on my way back from breakfast this morning and on the property right next to the Strut10 Ranch something caught my eye. I stopped the truck and glassed 4 longbeards and +/- 10 hens on a field edge. One of the toms was in full strut. Two of the other 3 were in 1/2 strut. Cool to see on a rainy October morning !!!!
  16. Mind ????!!!!! This is one of the COOLEST posts in a LOOOOOOOOOOng time !!!!!!!! KEEP IT COMING !!!!!!!!!!
  17. Last week, on Wednesday, I delivered a fellow a Savage B-Mag .17 WSM. He was all gushy about going prairie dog hunting with it. Friday I had a call-tag label from Savage to go back to his place and pick it up. I said to him "the .17 Super not so super ?" He said "piece of junk won't even fire !!" He had not put it back in the box yet and I got my first look at a B-Mag. DUDE !!!!!!!!! WHAT A PIECE OF PLASTIC JUNK !!!!!!!!! I think my little girl's Red Ryder weighs more !!!!!! I can't believe that they can't make these things fast enough to meet demand. It seriously had the same heft, look of quality and feel in my hands as a Crosman pump-up pellet gun you can get for $45 at Walmart.
  18. Deepest sympathies to the Jordan family.
  19. Have a pair of 5 Mags. The .17 Super is really not doing ANYTHING in 2013 that the 5 Mag wasn't doing over 44 years ago. Annnnnnnnnnd........................... I can get ammo for it.
