  1. Back in April, the rainbows in the lake here were hammering steelhead egg sacks we tied up....A friend was slamming the fish and had a heavy sinker on hence it was literally sitting on the bottom and the rainbows were hitting. Try and see if it'll work for you, don't know if ya don't try!
  2. Well team, I put a jake on the ground this morning: http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98682 Will get him entered. Will be out still trying to fill my 2nd tag though. Good luck to the rest of ya, let's put more birds on our score!
  3. And in an odd way to bag a turkey, I Filled my first spring 2010 turkey tag this morning!! :1eye: Couldn't go out last night after work, big storms came in...they kept up 1/2 the night, even woke me up. My alarm went off at 5am and I rolled over and went back to sleep...work's got me beat lately. Well I get up at 7:30 and decide a quick shower nd some run and gun on the "home ground" is in order. I leave the house at 8am, begin my walk. Was going to set up in me fav. corner of this corn field when I heard a gobble ring out in the woods...:jaw: I run down the field, throw out my decoy and set up in the corner...I pull out my A+J call and give some yelps and cluck...silence...Did that now and then, then I thought I heard a gobble again! It was a bit windy so hard to really key in on location. Well then a crow calls and I hear it gobble again. I pull out my crow call and give a crow and GOOBBLLE! It's now or never, I know right where he is, in this plowed field on the other side of this finger of pines. So I grab my decoy, put my A+J call in a pocket, leave my mouth call in and book it long this small deer trail to the other field. The wet ground and wind came to my advantage. I sneak up to this tree to peak out into the field and THERE HE IS! About 30 yards out, in the sun, 1/2 puffed up...Didn't act spooked so must not have seen me. He gobbles, I give some yelps back. He starts walking up the field. I get my gun raised up. I've got honeysuckle shrubs in front of me...I'm looking for any opening. Next thing I know he's walked past me and now up the field to my left. I decide to act. I duck down behind this bank that is the field edge and crawl on my hands and knees to this tree to my left, in hopes of a more clear opening...a little bit but not much. He gobbles again...poor guy all alone...I get my gun up, give a couple yelps and be gobbles back and turns and makes a B line right to me! Safety off...where am I going to shoot...there's brush right there...do I risk it...He's in a 1/2 strut...there's a small opening, he's almost on top of my, 15 yards and closing...ok I'm going for it, his head is up, BOOM!!!!!! Turkey down, turkey down!!!! Thank you Lord, oh thank you!! Fist pump, YES...YES!!!!! A jake but a great turkey none the less! 1/4" spurs, 4 1/2 inch beard and approx. 14 pounds...Going to be Mother's Day dinner! I am so blessed...this was heaven sent. I am by no means a great turkey caller or hunter, IMO,lol, I chalk up my success to God's blessings. I had this feeling, similar to when I went out late last year and bagged my bird at 11:30am, but I wasn't paying too much attention to this feeling today, lol. The Mossberg 500 20 ga Super Bantam did it's thing at 10-12 yards through some honeysuckle twigs. Thanks to Andy (bowhunter56) for the amazing work he does: Plenty of month left to go to see if I can sweet talk in another gobbler with Andy's call:camera:
  4. LOL! And currently I have none anyway...gotta get going on some ew coverage.
  5. Great bird Mike, congrats!!! Having quite the spring aren't you, lol!
  6. LOL...not lately...turkeys are getting the better of me, bears stalking me...trees tripping me...geesh...Good thing I work in a hospital:1eye:
  7. Aaahh geesh 5 is nothing, try finding 35 four leaf clovers and 3 five leaf clovers in 8 weeks, lol. Did that last summer at camp. Congrats...I don't believe in "luck" but I think they are really neat to find. I'm up to 3 for my 2010 total so far:-p
  8. I have never seen a black bear in person in the wild. Have heard they are around the state land by the camp I work at. Well was hunting an area of the state land this AM, went walking in with bears on the mind...kind of freaked out, lol. Well walking down this trail, found this: Then found this on another logging trail down further: Those are big tracks!:jaw: Have never found tracks before so I was excited!!!!:camera::camera:
  9. Yup, seen lone hens around home as well. Tried state land this AM...overcast but heard one bird sound off, a little bit aways away. Decided to head down towards where I heard him, unsure if he was on the state land on my side of the road of private land the other side. Well Found where he may have been...nice woods so may go back in there next time out, Thursday
  10. I was just standing in my room, going to take my shoes off and put them in my closet...took 2 steps towards my closet and for some reason my bad ankle, the one I sprained good at camp 2 summers ago, gave out with a few little cracks and I stumbled and fell down on my floor...:camera::stretcher::clown::turned: And this morning while turkey hunting, slipped on a wet rock, my gun hit a log and I fell over the log... Ok, that's all for now:1eye::surrender:
  11. Land around here has been dead quiet in the evenings. Went up tonight, no gobble to owl hoots. One hen on the trail cam...Going to go to the state land in the morning and hope I hear something...At least then I know where to start. Doesn't help around home when someone intentionally messes up your area the day before the season. Hope to report something tomorrow. Looks like my turkey season may be limited due to work....

  13. For sure Karen!! That is awesome!!
  14. Uneventful for me...only heard one bird the opener, across the road on land I don't hunt, heard a gun shot there. Went out an hour this AM,late, pathetic I know, nothing either. Not sure what's up...may be trying state land more...
  15. Glad it's worked out for you...I agree...sometimes it's just about patience and eventually something comes up, may be what we want or not exactly but the Lord always provides.
  16. Ditto...had the laughing gas before the novocaine before getting my teeth pulled...never noticed any difference..that was a bummer, lol
  17. Happy birthday Catrina!! Hope it was a wonderful day for you!
  18. Congrats! Great story, great hunt, and great bird!
  19. Congrats snapper! Beautiful bird! Wish my hunts were that easy, lol
  20. Congrats! Great bird, job well done, and very nice photo!!
  21. Well, while I didn't see any birds, I did play some sweet tunes, then occupied my time with some "scenic photography";) Your Red Oak call, which sounds great and when I leaned it up against the tree, what do ya know, it's a Red Oak!:camera:
  22. Yeah it was warm...a bit too warm IMO!
  23. Yeah, I hate to make a big stink but next time I see the landowner, may just bring it up. This morning heard a bird gobble, from across the road! Set up in a field that I hoped maybe I could entice the bird to cross the road and come to. It gobbled quite a bit...then all went silent...then a little while later BOOM! Went home, grabbed a bite, and drove over to the state land....nothing would respond, saw a few vehicles but not alot...Really warm. Probably be up back tonight and see if there's a bird hanging around on my side of the road...one can only hope. Suppose to rain so maybe they'll be out.
  24. I 2nd that;) Guys can chip in if they so desire.... We already know what Tim does...lol:1eye::tt1::eat:
