Thanks everyone! I'm opting for a Euro skull mount. Would like to do an actual head/neck mount but the few hundred $ cost and wait time is a downside. hope I don't regret it but someday I'll do a full mount.

I can't believe I finally get to post something like this....here's the story and pics:1eye::camera: Got into my stand at 3:30pm today - the one tucked in from the corn field in some hemlocks. 4pmn a small doe comes downwind of me, didn't hang around long. 10 minutes to 5pm a 1 antlered spike comes through about 45 yards our. Temp dropping, maybe a 1/4" of snow in spots...i'm starting to freeze. Right around 6PM, give or take a few minutes, I'm sitting down and look to my right to see a big rack pop over the ridge, oh my gosh BIG BUCK! I can't move, he's coming right down the hill, he stops for a second then keeps walking, pretty relaxed. He's right out in front of my slightly quartering away, it's now or never and he's not behind a tree so I have to draw. My bow draws dead silent, I get settled on him, BAAHH! He stops, I don't even remember it all but I anchored best I could, settled the first pin behind his shoulder and watched the arrow disappear into him, he gave a big ol' kick and takes off, I see the arrow in him! In a matter of minutes I hear a crash on the other side of the swamp to my left. I call home, shaking like crazy. The first thought as I saw the buck run off was "It looked like a good sot and this one is for my uncle." (my uncle isn't doing well healthwise).Well Andy got home and comes help me track. Blood started immediately at impact but was kind of sprayed and not heavy at all but there were air bubbles, found my arrow broken, and 100 yards at most I'd guess Andy says "Ruth, look". There he lays, my best buck to date...I'm still on a cloud, lol. Pinch me I'm dreaming! I have truly been blessed. [/size]

My uncle (mom's brother) lives in England and he's been the hospital for a little over a week. He has COPD and has had numerous respiratory infections, He's stubborn though and it had to be bad for him to go (he's a retired surgeon). It's rough on my mom especially (basically last living relative, she regularly talked to him twice a week) and it's hard to get updates on him. He has a friend that stayed with him who calls and updates mom, but not as often as she's hoping and he isn't always the most cooperative apparently. Not sure if my uncle is going to pull through or his time is coming. Last I heard his heart was actually good but he was septic and not eating well at all. Mom and I think he may be giving up. So if you think of it, just pray for my mom and her brother and the doctors/nurses over there treating him. Thanks.

So story goes I'm sitting in a ladder stand, usually one I sit in when we hunt at the neighbor's cabin an hour away. about 8:45am I hear rustling in the woods behind me. 4 does come up this ridge and pass behind me at about 25 yards out into a grassy lane I had walked up. There were shrubs in the way so no shot but they fed and hung around a bit before moving back into the woods. I had put some code blue doe urine on my boots when I walked up and sprayed some on weeds so I dunno if it worked but this one doe turned and came in on a line...Drew back, she was broadside then turned again. She walked closed, about 10 yards let her have it, shot spined her, was high, she dropped in her tracks. I waited until she turned broadside and put a 2nd arrow behind her shoulder, angled straight down and through her heart. View from the stand: End result:

First shot was high, quartering to and spined her. Put in a follow-up shot through her heart. 10 yards from the stand at most. With no venison left i nthe freezer and not tagging a deer last year with bow, sure feels good to break the ice. Wasn't proud of the spine shot though...my error completely.

Well from what the infection control nurse told me, flu shots now a days aren't suppose to "make" you sick because it's an inactive form. Some do get sick, some don't. But you have to consider you don't know when you were exposed to an illness prior to getting vaccinated and coincidentally you get sick. But some do have allergic reactions to the flu shot so really anything can be possible.

Who got their's this year?:nurse: Got mine before I left work last night. Usually never any side effects although today I do not feel 100%. Going out hunting later anyway:angel1:

I shoot 100 grains out of my elite at 53 pounds...fly just fine...just haven't put one in a deer yet this year. Good luck to ya, glad to see ya here!

Good to hear from ya bu so so so so sorry for your loss Bulldawg...As a nurse, I can imagine some of the pain you must be going through...but she is comfortable now, no suffering. Hang in there.

Got the next 4 days off...need the time to re-coup. Have dealt with a few dying patients and their families, who are very appreciative of the care and makes me love my job even more, then I turn around dealing with patients for rehab and their families who want you to wait on them hand and foot, yet they don't want to do the rehab and help themselves... Spending all weekend in the woods with bow in hand and talking to God...that's my therapy:)
-
Post em' up...show them off! Gun or bow, big or small, let's see them!
-
These are off my two homebrews...

plenty old to shoot,lol
-
Yep, that's gotta hurt! Rest that hand...let it heal...do what the Dr. says and I hope they gave you some good pain meds! Keep it clean to...tissues will heal well but get an infection and get set back.

Tuesday I put in an order for a few things - a plucker that goeso n your drill to pluck ducks...we are going to try it on our own ducks we butchers. there were also a few deals on camo so I got a couple sets of gloves and a scentlock fleece balaclava from the bargain cave. I just do standard shipping. Well it was shipped on the 6th and Friday the 7th the mailman pulls up to the house with the Cabelas box! Usually it's like 3 days but figuring that maybe because Monday Was Columbus day, they sent it fast. Cabelas gets a thumbs up!

First of all tyme is really spelled "time". Second of all, in my opinion, if you go out to the woods, be there to enjoy it...what's the point if all you are going to do is text and what not. There is pletny of things happening in the woods if you watch. Also don't force things on her, let her make her own choices. Be reassuring with her, if she's never been in the woods, it might be scary to her like the big city is to me. Go slow, don't rush her.

Well had alot of fun...my ankles are really sore but we did it in about 35 minutes, not horrible for my first and I sense it won't be my last;) Time to work on deer season prep now!
