  2. Re: Friends, I give you the worst job in the world.... i think i would be crouching down just a little bit lower.
  3. Re: Would you have shot? great decision on your part!
  4. Re: I STUCK AN ABSOLUTE HOG TONIGHT!! WIFE SHOT ONE TO canine--best of luck tomorrow. You might have some tough tracking with very little blood trail on your buck. A walking away shot is not a pretty low percentage shot and more than likely you didn't not get an exit wound so very little blood dripping. I wish you the best of luck. todd

  6. day of hunting. I get out this morning--opening black powder. Starts off great as I have a nice young 6 pointer eating in the food plot at first light. I let him walk and about 30 minutes later a nice mature 8 pointer is eating some turnips and sugar beet greens (Oneida--your brassica plots are really drawing them in now )--he never offers a shot and as he is leaving I decide to hit the can, grunt, and light rattling--but he doesn't come back. then about 20 minutes later another nice 8 pointer comes in from behind--not quite as big as the first one but a shooter in my book. I get my gun up--place the crosshairs on him---pull and get the pop of the cap then--hesitation--then boom. I had taken everything apart and lightly cleaned but I either didn't pack the bullet in good enough or got some moisture--anyway the deer goes bouncing off. I was positive I missed but waited and got down to make sure that I missed--yep--clean miss. I then hunt for a little longer not seeing anything. I then take my gun apart to check my nipple and the nipple had broken inside the breech I drive back to the city and check every gun store--no extra breech. No evening hunt with the muzzleloader--so I decide to use the bow. This was the most interesting hunt of my life. About 1 hour before sunset I see movement behind me---2 sheep and 6 billy goats--they come and feed on the plot until I finally scare them off. then the neighbors coon hounds decide to the check the plot out---wind me and follow the scent to my stand and start howling at me---I fling a blunt tipped arrow at them and that scares them off. Twenty minutes later I hear all this noise---think a big buck--nope a stupid hog Finally a few does and 3 fawns come in but no buck. I come home and get the drill to try to remove the threads of the nipple which was broken off in the breech---drill bit breaks and I drive whats left in the drill in my thumb. I better go to church tomorrow todd
  7. guys--i purchased a diamond skyrunner from JB and let me tell you they are a very sweet shooting bow. very smooth and quiet. I strongly recommend one of these bows if you are in the market. todd
  8. Re: I tested mechanicals and don\'t like them stinger--go back and get the heads and send them to me. I promise you they opened and just closed back up after exiting the target. but you need to use what you have confidence in. todd

  21. Re: What would you do? A chance at a big mature buck doesn't come along too many times. I'd take the mature buck then let your daughter take a doe/younger buck the next day. todd
  22. Re: WHEN FIELD DRESSING YOUR DEER i don't split it either todd
  23. Guys I think the black powder season opening Saturday is going to be a good one. I had a big mature buck chasing a doe today with his nose to the ground. I think the bucks are starting to chase the girls. best of luck to all todd
  24. Re: Should I shoot her, or let her walk? I agree with Derek. The mothers usually run off yearling bucks but will let let doe yearling hang around. If you take out the mother doe there is no reason for the buck yearling to leave unless he is run off by dominant bucks. Those fawns may be still nursing but they will be fine---if you want to take the doe go ahead. todd
  25. Re: Velvet Sans Vlevet 1 [ QUOTE ] Neck muscles swell due to the rut......man, I thought a guy with a doctorate in veterinary medicine might know a little about deer. Wait, I do have to remember where you went to school....... (Sorry for the harassment, once again.) [/ QUOTE ] If his neck grew that big he must be eatin' a bunch of Oneida Man's trefoil mix. I also noticed the warts on the top pic and not on the last pic. They could have healed by now. I just think that the lower buck is an older buck---which is good--means you have another shooter! todd
