  2. Re: First Deer EVER... patience---the best tip for bowhunting. You waited for the shot--didn't spook them and succeeded. A big congrats! thanks for sharing your exciting hunt with us todd
  3. Well I finally did it----All my gear packed--up at 4am--hour drive to the spot. Dress in the field. Take the bow out of the case. NO ARROWS I had hunted in the rain on my last day out and took the arrows out of the quiver for everything to dry and put a little oil on the mechanical heads--forgot to put them back in. Talk about a stupid move. I just kept staring inside my case expecting them to magically appear---oh well---I went to the stand anyway and didn't see anything but only stayed for about an hour after shooting light. I wanted to leave before anything showed up so I wouldn't feel any worse. I can now be elected the new President of the Moron Club---Buckee, step aside todd

  7. Re: Have a problem and need help quick I had the same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago---my bottom limb was slipping out of the pocket--YUK. Ended up having to send my bow back to the factory for new limbs. todd
  8. Re: Possible World Record Whitetail Taken In Iowa yep--that's a monster. I have seen the pic in a couple magazines and on the web for a while now. I think if it was a record we would know by now---still one heck of a buck todd

  12. Re: first deer(260lbs,massive 11point) wow--what a great hunt. look forward to the pics todd
  13. Re: Fall plot progress.... [ QUOTE ] seen between 20 - 25 deer each setting. [/ QUOTE ] Wow--you either need bigger plots or less deer. That is the only downfall with brassicas---they can plow down smaller plots pretty quick. todd
  14. Re: Fall plot progress.... gt---I actually did not do soil test for this spot--although I strongly recommend it. I have a pH meter---when I first started the plot the pH was 5.8. I have added enough lime to get it up to 6.4. I was wanting to add some more lime before discing and actually went to get it and the co-op was out so I went ahead and planted. I fertilized with 200# of triple 13 and then spiked it with 50# of 34-0-0 (per acre). The plot has done great considering the lack of rain we have had during the month of september. I ordered my seed from www.hamannfarms.com good luck this season todd
  15. Re: Fall plot progress.... Tony--you might ask Oneida man about whether or not you can no-plow this seed. The plot that I planted last year is a perennial/annual mix contained clover, trefoil, chicory as the perennials and brassicas and rye as the annual--it is Oneida mans fall deer blend. I am hoping to get at least 3 years out of this one planting. With proper fertilization and mowing. todd
  16. Here are a few pics of Hamann Farms new winter mix--a total brassica mix containing sugar beets, rape, forage brassica, and purple-top turnips. I planted this plot on the last weekend in August and the plot has only had 3/4 of an inch of rain since planting---I can't believe it has done so well with so little rain. Fortunately right now it is pouring and we are expected to get a minimum of 2 inches with this current front. Here is a close up: Another--the brassica mix is on the left, what is left of the soybeans in the middle and the Hamann Farms fall blend that I planted last year on the right.: The acorn crop is huge right now which is giving the plots a chance to grow and provide some great winter forage. todd
  17. Re: Read on stand? i usually take a paper back book with me when I'm hunting all day. todd

  21. Re: Scrubmasters theme song! you went digging for that one---thanks for bringing it back out---enjoyed it just as much as the first time I "sang" it! I tried calling the 1-900 # and I got a recording--it sounded like Tony's voice. He said they are temporarily closed----something about him getting beat on 3D by an 18 year old shooting a Mathews. He sounded kind of depressed Guess he's out retuning that hoyt

    Ok! Admit it......

Re: Ok! Admit it...... I was hunting my in-laws place in Arkansas and my pop-in-law was having trouble with a bear that was tearing up his corn feeders. Anyway--he hung a stand for me deep in the woods on a main trail and drew me a map---well anyway--here I go exploring with a flashlight trying to find this stand and get totally turned around and lost. So I just find a nice tree and sit down beside it and thought I would wait for first light to find the stand. Well anyway--here I am sitting next to this tree--not knowing what direction I am facing and I hear something moving behind me---I am convinced it was that darn bear ready to munch on my tiny biceps. I take an arrow from my quiver and have it ready to use like a spear. My hard is pounding so loud--I'm just praying that my scent lock suit will prevent him from smelling me---I have never been so scared in my life. The noise gets closer and I'm ready with my arrow! Finally i begin to make out the shape in the early light and it was a doe picking acorns in the dry leaves! So yes---I do get scared when walking in the dark ! todd
  23. Re: and the Winners Are... congrats to the winners! enjoy the new camera. and thanks to billkay for setting this all up! good job todd
  24. only time will tell---if he's the boss of the area then he probably will hang around that area if not he might go searching for new territory come breeding season. What keeps them around is food and girls! If you have plenty of that then I bet he'll be there come season time! Welcome to RT todd
  25. Re: What do you do While on Stand usually sleep--thank goodness for the harness I will usually have a book with me or if OSU is playing football i have my walkman! todd
