Got my rifle buck upgraded. Had some good news. I ran into the guy who shot the antler off my deer and he saved it. So now my 6 point is a 9 point. I ordered some epoxy to repair the break so we'll see how it goes. Hope some of the others check in.

Upgrade for Team 1 RangerClay 6 point Buck

We had a slow opener for our southern tier gun season. Weather was too nice and the rut is dying down. I did manage to upgrade. He would have been a nice 8 point but half his rack was shot off and had two other bullet holes in him. I didn't see the missing side but I would have shot him anyway. So I will upgrade us later with two more points.

Well our southern tier season starts tomorrow. This is where we kill most of our bucks. It will be my daughters very first day of deer season. I am so excited and a nervous wreck.

Q1 Yes this sounds like a miss to me. Q2 Yes the deer can return if no one else pressures him too much. Two weeks ago I flung an arrow at a buck and hit him really high. So high that it slid just under the spine. Here is a deer that was hit and I have him on camera checking a rub 30 yards from where I shot him less than two weeks later. The rut is on and deer will do anything if there are red hot does in the area.

About 4:15 Sunday this 4 point buck was chasing a doe by my stand. I blatted at him and he stopped just long enough.

I got a nice 4 point on Saturday with my bow. I will get him uploaded later in the week. 9 points for team #1

I had an amazing Saturday morning. At one point I had 12-15 deer with 40 yards of my stand with 2 of them being a pair of spikes. Had does and fawns bleating and bucks grunting. The rut is kicking here in central NY.

Hit your local archery shops. A bow is not like a gun, it must be fitted to your draw length. They should be able to set you up with a new or used bow. If you can wait, lots of used bows become available after the new 2016 line comes out. Another option, is look at your bargain bows. They may be inexpensive but they are quality equipment. Bear, PSE and Mission both make archery packages for less than $400. Then you will drop another $100-200 in arrows and extras.

The advanced editor is missing from the forums. If I click "post reply" it automatically scrolls me to the window below the last post. Once you start typing in that window there used to be a whole slew of buttons to choose from. There also used to be an advanced editor button. Yesterday the advanced editor appeared when I replied to someone's deer pic. This post nothing.

Holy Schmitt that's a great picture!! Congratulations!! I'm taking my girl out this fall for the first time. I'm hoping for the same success.

I used to get them for Christmas and I remember my wife saying how hard they are to find in the stores that time of year. I asked my wife to stop buying them for me after #20. It got to be the same old thing year after year. I would fast forward to see Tim and that was about it. I have even stopped watching the TV show as well.

I definitely see some seeking going on here in NY. Charlie Alsheimer says the rut will be earlier this year.

NYS gun season is split into 2 zones, northern and southern. The northern gun season opens tomorrow. I will be a new location for this hunt so we'll see what happens.

Be prepared to not have as many pass through's with expandables because penetration is not as good. If you are shooting downward, you won't have blood trails till the insides fill up with blood and you bleed out your entry wound. Now one thing I noticed about your Steelforce Phathead's is a smaller bleeder blade. Maybe you could go with a Slick Trick or a Muzzy where all the blades are the same size. Slick tricks brag about shotgun slug type holes for entry wounds and boy are they correct.
