  1. Good luck!Hope they get you taken care off and you get healed up quick.
  2. As of now I just have permission to hunt 2 properties. One is 30 acres and the other is 80 acres.I do plan on purchasing my own property within the next 5-10 years though. After watching the show Whitetail Properties on MOR I think it will be doable for me.They say money from leasing out farm ground, crp, and timber management programs you make a decent chunck of the payments.
  3. Yep,Ive used ratchet straps before. You can pick up a good 8' or 10' for under $10.The hard part is getting it wrapped around a tree that big.
  4. Happy birthday BTH!Hope you have a good one.
  5. You should be proud!Glad to here the little girl is doing well.Hope you get healed up quick.
  6. Sorry for your loss Swampy.Wether it's expected or not,it's still a hard thing to go through. My condolences for your whole family.

    My hunting Chick

That's awesome! My three year old little girl has been helping me hang stands and check my cameras and she loves it.I may take her out for a sit in a ground blind once or twice this season.
  8. Man,those look great todd!I'm hoping for some more rain around here.My turnips were about 2" tall last weekend.Hopefully they'll turn out as nice as yours did.
  9. Looks great! That ought to keep the critters happy.Glad to here you've been getting some rain,we've still been real dry in my part of the state.
  10. Any idea how long it will make it without rain at this point? The only rain it has gotten in the last 7 days has been .03" on Sunday, which is barely worth counting. It looks like they have a 40% chance tomorrow night, and a 30% chance on Thursday so hopefully they get some rain out of that, but I'm not holding my breath.
  11. I don't really have any tips, but here's how I do it.I start at the bottom of the rib cage and cut up through the ribs towards the neck. After tha I cut the windpipe. Then I turn the knife around, stick it in about 1/4" ,and angle it back so I just cut the belly open and not the stomach.I cut all the way down to the pelvis.I pack pretty light and don't carry a hatchet,so I just cut around anus and pull it back through.I cut the diaphragm, grab the windpipe and everything yanks right out.By the end of the year it only takes about 5 minutes. It takes a little longer until I get back in practice. The sharper the knife the better. The ribs can be pretty tough to get through sometimes.
  12. Glad to here your back is feeling better! You should take it easy the first few weeks so your in top shape for the rut. October 1 for me,but since it falls on a Monday I may have to wait a few more days to climb into the stand.
  13. Congrats!Looks like a perfect shot on the old doe.
  14. I'm shooting Crimson Talons again this year. They've worked for me the last few years and I'm happy with them.I did shoot a G5 Stryker and it seems like a great head that I might try to use,it's just a little smaller than my Talons, but flys great.
  15. Don't worry about the miss to much...there's lots of time left.I've choked plenty of times.LOL.I've done the same "close my eyes" trick a time or two.I know I've looked at my broadhead before I've drawn before and that thing was bouncing all over the place from shaking so bad. That's all part of the hunting experience.I would go back and hunt that stand again. It seems like it's getting some action,so as long as the wind is good I would give it another sit.
  16. Sounds great!Should give the deer plenty to pick from this fall.Good luck on the rain. Were still real dry around here.
  17. Went up to the farm and checked on my plot Saturday. There's pretty decent growth so far.Everything is about 2" high at 14 days.I think if we get some rain sometime this week it should help push it up a little more. It looks like my coverage is decent, which I was a little worried about with how small the turnip and brassica seeds are. There were quite a few tracks in it,but I hope they don't tear into it for a few more weeks.I hung a stand about 50 yards off the plot on a trail that goes into it that usually has quite a few scrapes on it every November so we'll see what happens.
  18. Sounds like a great time!I've never met her before, but she grew up about 5 miles from here in Pocohontas,Il.I wouldn't mind seeing her concert one of these days.
  19. You shoot 20 does a year?Sheesh, that's a lot of venny in the freezer. The properties i hunt are fairly small 30, and 80 acres) with a decent amount of pressure. This may sound strange coming from someone that lives hunts Illinois, but I don't see that many big deer.I will see a handfull a year that would be over 130",but shot oportunities are rare especially with me mostly bowhunting.I like to try and shoot 2 or 3 does a year, and every 1 1/2 old buck gets a free pass from me.I've killed one 3 1/2 and one 2 1/2 year old buck in the past 5 years. These are goals that are realistic for my spots and still a challenge for the spots I hunt.
  20. No problem Chris.Hope everything checks out good.
  21. Glad to here everything is going good!Moving isn't much fun,but it sounds like your on the downhill slide.Hope you put some meat in the freezer these next few weeks!
  22. I'm sure it's quite a relief to have it over with.Sounds like it went through fairly quick.Good luck,I hope things start looking up for you, and it sounds like maybee they are.
  23. Thanks for the link Laura.I wish the best for her and the kids.
  24. I shoot Winchester BRI sabots out of my 1300 with a rifled barrel and open sights.I only will shoot out to about 75 yards and these seem to work good out of my gun.
  25. Looks great!Them first few have quite a bit of growth for 10 days.Hope the weather cooperates for you. We're not supposed to get rain till the middle of next week.
