  1. Congrats! He's a toad for sure. Great pics and story! Now i really can't wait to get out this weekend...gonna be a long afternoon at work.
  2. He's a great deer! Turned out nice. Is that a full sneak?
  3. Things are looking good this weekend. I can't get out tomorrow, but took a vacation day for Monday, so I'll be out Sunday and Monday trying to put one down. Weather looks decent and the rut should be heating up very shortly. Sunday it will one year exactly since i killed the 8 pointer in my avatar, so hopefully I can make it happen two years in a row.
  4. Heck of a buck...congrats! He looks like maybee around 130. The broke G3 will hurt the score, but who cares man...he's still a toad.

    deer calls

During the rut I use both. I like to give an estrous bleat followed by a few grunts. That has been my most productive calling method by far.
  6. Finally back from South Dakota. Had a good time, but hunted pretty darn hard. I think we ended up with 46 roosters between 7 of us. I plan on getting out in the woods this weekend, but the weather doesn't look too good. They have highs in the mid 60's for saturday, and rain for Sunday. My cousin got a nice 9 pointer that was on a doe Sunday morning, so hopefully I get into a little action.
  7. One thing you might want to try is to walk into the wind. The birds tend to hold a little tighter and don't here you coming as well. Also, if your using a dog it's better for him to get on them.

    team 8?

You just need to do a search for team 8 in the contest forum. Post in the thread and it comes right back to the top. It probably hasn't had any new posts in a while.
  9. Good luck this weekend boys! I'm outta here for a few days. Heading to South Dakota to do some pheasant hunting with my grandpa (85 yo.) and a few buddies. Looks like I'll miss some good hunting weather, but it's grandpa's last year making the South Dakota trip and I can't miss that. I plan on hitting it pretty hard when I get back...it should be getting good around here by then.
  10. I would strip it down and have it dipped or powder coated. If you do paint it I would use an automotive grade paint. Spray bomb may work, but doubt it would last very long.
  11. Hmmm. Never seen that before. It looks interesting. There may be something to it....deer seem to have a sixth sense about certain things and it could be related to an electromagnetic field. Not saying I would go out and buy it, but it would be neat to see some real world studies on it.
  12. Sheesh. Talk about a collapse. Cards really stunk the last three games and blew a series they should've won. Got out scored 20-1 in the last three. It would be a little different if they would have been well played, tight games. They just were never even on the radar. Oh well....now I wish hockey season would get going.

    Safety harness

Same here. Mine is a few years old and has the bigger seat belt buckles. Just doesn't feel right. The newer models look a little better. I bought my daughter a new Muddy harness since it was cheaper then the HHS, and it's nice.
  14. Heck of a nice buck! Congrats to your brother!
  15. Well, another weekend without a deer in the back of the truck. I hunted all day Saturday with just a short break for lunch. The morning was nice, but not much movement. I did pass on an 8 pointer that came down from the bedding area. He came down to within 4 yards just eating on some acorns, got a drink out of the creek, and headed right back up to the bedding area he came from. I passed a little 3 pointer at about 10 yards in the afternoon from a different stand. Had a doe at about 50 yards, but she wouldn't get any closer. The 3 pointer was all over her. He would chase her for a few seconds then stop and wheeze at her. pretty cool to watch, but she didn't want any part of him. Walking out at dark i got busted and blown at twice. Movement is still very early and very late here. I can't complain much about the season so far. I've passed on three young bucks all under 10 yards, and seen deer on all but two sits. Hopefully it's just a matter of time before i stick one.
  16. Cards looked good last night. Wano put in a solid performance, and they were hitting the ball pretty good. The Giants had plenty of men on base, just couldn't come through. The bull pen has surprised me with how good they have been. Tonight might be the night...Busch Stadium should be rockin'.
  17. I would take three days off each week for the first three weeks of November. Like three days the week of the 4th, three days the week of the eleventh, and three days the week of the eighteenth. Over the years I've been hunting the best days seem to float around anywhere in that area, and this gives you a little flexibility. I can only take around 5 days off in November, and this is how I usually do it.
  18. Get after 'em Jeramie! Good luck, man. Hope you get a big one. Since I'm stuck at work I'll be following along the rest of the week.
  19. Nice! He's a great buck. Congrats!
  20. Congrats Rhino! Finally got some points on the board! Not many guys around my area have tagged a deer yet, which is pretty unusual. I thought with the corn being out so early, that October would be a good month. Not the case so far.
  21. Country Boy is a great song. Staind rocks...kind of a mix of southern rock, hard rock, and a little country thrown in. Aaron Lewis seemed like a great guy when he was on Dream Season.
  22. It lets you keep a loose grip on the bow handle. A looser grip reduces torque on the bow.
  23. Brought my daughter out for a morning hunt Saturday. Didn't see a thing, but had a good time regardless. It was warm and windy here all weekend. Going to try it again this weekend. It may be my last chance to get out for a couple of weeks. It looks like I may be going to South Dakota pheasant hunting from the 25th to the 29th.
  24. LOL, I love that clip...classic. Man, an exciting weekend if your a Cards fan. An amazing comeback to beat the Nats, and took game one from the Giants last night. Looks like the Tigers took care of business in New York, too.
  25. It was pretty amazing to watch. When he started spinning I thought he was in big trouble, but he pulled right out of it. He still didn't get the record for the longest free fall though. I think he missed that one by like 20 seconds.
