There are alot of tips people can give you but the most important thing that I can tell you is.............HAVE FUN. Don't get bummed out if you dont shoot as good as you wanted to. Let us know how it went!!!
-
Hutchies that is some good shooting. I'm jealous, one of these days I'm gonna make it down there.
-
Man and you think that you shoot bad now!!! Just think what would happen if you did get a Mathews:eek:
-
Talk about dissapointing....... set up my new Ultra-elite for 3-d and even set up diffrent arrows and the bow is 10fps slower. My old bow I had 309gr A/C/C's at 58 lbs shooting 287fps. This bow I have 295gr fatboys at 58 lbs and I'm only getting 277:eek:!!!!! Man am I severly dissappointed.

This bow is $750 new!!! It has less than 100 shots on it.

I use to have target panic also and it is a frustrating thing to have. First you need to recognize what is going on with your shot. Are you holding low, doing drive-bys, punching the trigger? I use to hold low and for the life of me couldn't get the pin up the center, so I would jerk the bow up and punch the trigger at the sametime. WOW those days were not fun. I beleive that the #1 thing is to find a release that has NO TRIGGER TRAVEL!!! Whether it be a index release, thumb trigger or back tension. I started out with a Carter solution 2 that Tony was generous enough to let me use. What I did to cure myself was blank bale ALOT with that same release. If you dont know what blank bale is, its when you get 2-3 yrds from the target butt, pull back get settled and close your eyes and CONCENTRATE on nothing but the release. This is where you will learn alot about your release and the proper way of shooting it. Dont worry about where that arrow goes but worry about proper form and a good release. While you are doing this visualize your pin floating around in the X. Next thing I did was I got back to 20 yrds and pulled my bow back, put my pin on the target and let it just float there, NEVER shooting the arrow. Just letting it float. After 10-15 seconds let the bow down, take a break then repeat the process. Next thing after you feel comfortable with that is to shoot a round at 10 yrds. Get the feeling of shooting x after x. When you shoot a 60 move back to 12 yrds and keep going. Its going to take time and patience but the reward is worth every min. The biggest thing that you have to remember is it all in your head. Tell yourself that you can let the pin float in the X and you DONT HAVE TO SHOOT until YOU want to. Let the shot happen. If its not going the way you want LET DOWN, you DONT HAVE TO SHOOT!!! Let us know how things go and fill us in on how the progress is going.

Theres nothing wrong with using a index release!!!! I use one also, I just learned how to use it in a back tension form. Its good to see another point and punch shooting.

I have an 07 Hoyt Vectrix 50-60lb. 27". It has the vector cams on it. Comes with a Trophy taker drop-away rest and a G5 meta peep. This bow has less than 100 shots through it!!!!! I sighted my bow in and hunted with it this season, I only shot a doe. I will also sell a spot-hogg real deal and fuse 2 piece quiver. For the bow with shakey hunter drop away and G5 peep I will ship it for $550. With the quiver and site I will ship for $650.

Congrats!!!! That is some good shooting!!! I hear that alot, people can concentrate better on the vegas than the 5 spot. I'm completely opposite, I concentrate better on the 5 spot round. Just remember to let that pin float on the 5 spot round and let the shot happen and you will see your X count shoot up!!! Congrats once again and let us know how your shooting goes.

Thanks guys Thanks guys I really appreciate the comments. To be honest I'm still in shock that I actually won!!!! I was actually clean going into the 7th end on the last day and that is what had my nerves on their wits end. Well I shot a 9 and cleaned the rest of the half. Needless to say it never set in until the guys all around came up and started to shake my hand, half the guys had a bigger smile on their face then I did!!! Good friend Mark Wagner shook my hand gave me a pat on the back and looked at me and said " You did it man you won vegas, your a world champ and that can never be taken away". Thats when that shakes hit and I had to sit down. Everyone that went shot VERY well and had a good showing for Buck Hollow sports. Lynn finished 8th in the BHFS championship Blake finished 28th outta 620 shooters!!!!!! Boyd finished in the 5th flight which is still in the top 20% of his class!!! Once again guys I want to thank everyone for the comments and now its time to focus on state indoor and Nationals. -
LOL nope Steve that wasnt meant as a blow, now if Tony had said that then ya, it would have been a shot.

Thats a great post!!!! That has to be the most important thing when introducing someone to archery, keeping it fun. If they think that it is work then what is the point of them doing it. Make it a good time for both of you.

I'm 5-10" and shoot 27" for indoor and hunting and 27.5" for 3-D. In my opinion it is better to short on draw length than long.

With vegas coming up in 2 weeks I've been concentrating on shooting nothing but vegas faces but every once in awhile I get a hankering for a 5spot round. On monday night I took my brother to our local club to shoot a couple rounds and he just wanted to watch and call my arrows. Well I ended up talking him into shooting my bow for awhile and I gotta tell ya that kid is a shooter. He has never shot any sort of target archery and after I taught him about pin float and squeezing the trigger he pounded a 29-2X end then a 30-3X end on a vegas face and pinned wheeled 5 inside out on a 5-spot face (I think that I'm gonna have to give him my bow now and get my new one set-up.) After he was done I told him that I was going to shoot at a 5 spot that was already hanging on the target butt and we would leave when I dropped an X. Well needless to say I pounded out a 300-60X including 2 practice ends. That is my first with BHFS gear. My brother looked at me like "ya so whats the big deal, is that good?" Leave it to a relative to kick ya low

Well I did some researching and found out that the 29" draw on the vector is a #3 cam and the 27" is a #1. The string length and cables should be good to go for both sets of cams. String length 55.25 Cables should be- 43 and 40.25. All you would need is a #1 vector cam which you can either order from hoyt or you can look on ebay or Archerytalk. Like I said you can get them for around $50. Hope this helps ya.

On your 38ultra you should have vector cams. On normal draw specific bows you would need to get new strings and cables along with cams to change the draw length. However with the Vector cams they came in what they called sister groups. Example: If you have a 29" bow and need 27" then you would just need the cams and not the strings and cables. The string would fit a certain range of draw lengths. Now I'm nopt saying that this would work on yours I'm just using it as an exdample. I'm not sure if they come in 1.5" increments or not but this is something that you can look into to save yourself some money. I also know that the vectors cams were alot cheaper than the old cam and halfs. I want to say something like $50.

I just went back to find out if you are talking about field points or broadheads and I see its broadheads. Now the question is.....how do they fly when you shoot field points?? Are your broadheads fixed blade or mechanical?? I sure in the heck wouldnt go buy a new bow because it more than likely has nothing to do with the bow itself. Unless your just looking for a good reason to buy a new bow.
-
Really??? How has it helped you?

Shot the 33rd annual holiday shoot and ended up getting lucky and won it. Now its on to vegas.

Well the Iowa Pro-am was this weekend and had a good time with friends. We ate at a place called the rib crib and had a blast. I'm honestly surprised that we didnt get kicked out. I didnt finish the way that I wanted to but what can ya do?? I ended up in 2nd place. Shot good the first day but let it slide the 2nd. Staying out to late and not getting enough sleep is not something that is good for a good performance.
-
Congrats on the new bow. I've had the opportunity to shoot Seven 37 and that thing is definetly a shooter!!!!

BT newbies keep trying and don't give up.....

The big thing In my personal opinion the biggest thing is concentration. Concentrating on that X or 12 ring or whatever it is that you are aiming at is the biggest contributing factor to hitting your spot. When you allow your pin to float and let the shot happen you will find that you will hit your objective a majority of the time. This is what makes using back tension (surprise release) so succesful. When you have to think about hammering a trigger on a release then you are not thinking/concentrating on that intended spot like you should be. When you train yourself to start executing your shot process and let the shot just happen that is when the chinchillan magic kicks in:D -
How in the world can you say that LSU should be in it when they lost to TWO unranked teams?? Its just to bad that Dixon got hurt or we wouldnt even have to have this debate because Oregon would be there instead Another thing is how can you not even consider Hawaii as a prospect for the NC?? So your telling that if they went the next 4 years undefeated that they shouldn't play for a national championship?? Then what would the point of being part of the BCS if your not going to ever get the shot?? Look LSU has NO business being in the game and makes even more of a point that they need a play-off system. Like eveyone is saying take the top 8 and make it game on. Its funny how when its your team you always see it as an o.k. deal but when its not your team you see the point trying to be made.

Never would have thought that I would have liked shooting indoor so much.

Went to Boyds on Wednesday and the 4 of us shot together again. Lynn 300-56X Me 300-58x Blake 300-58x Boyd- once again he didnt say. Last night Lynn put a twist in his cable and wanted to head to Lacona to shoot some so off we went. Lynn 300-55X Me 300-57X with 42 of them being inside-out. Man the pin held great all night but the 3 that I dropped I knew they were bad shots when they went off. Either dropped my bow arm or the release went off when the pin wasnt where it was suppose to be. I'm going to give a week or so before I shoot again. I've learned to shoot only when I feel like shooting and not to push it when I don't feel the need to shoot.
