I have hunted with a 30/30 for over 20 years. I have used Speer Nitrex 150gr with great success, 11 deer. My son AJ also hunts with a 30/30. We sighted in his with the new lever revolution ammo and it prints real tight on paper at 100 yds. Ranger Clays post shows the performance of that load. Wow. LR ammo is supposed to be 1.3"high at 100 yds and .2 low at 200 and 12" low at 300. It is great use of the improved ballistics from the pointed bullet for the 30/30. They go on sale every now and then running $20/box.

A minimum of 45 mins to an hour I sit before shooting light. I have had a deer walk right up to me as I was bending down hooking my climber around a tree. I get there early and hear a lot in the dark.

I have only cut up a few. I need to learn how to do it. Between my son and I (soon all 3 of my sons will be hunting), we will have a lot of deer to be cutting up. Deer cutters up here get $100 and better. So it can get VERY expensive if you shoot a few deer.

Here a few pics of the field next to our hunting camp/country house. It is in the foot of NY's Catskill Mtns. The wonderful fall colors have been putting on quite a show and I'd thought I'd share. The pics are 3 weeks apart. It has been windy and the trees are shedding fast. Yeah...I moved the camper this weekend, it is going to Texas with my buddy who will be hunting in NY this season with us.

OK this bad boy, the wide 8; is 5 1/2 years old. He has avoided us for quite some time and managed to grow quite large and old even with a bunch of sharpened stick flingers here:clown:. Joe and I were out shooting our bows today in the yard. I will be on the ground sitting on a milk crate behind a blow down opening day, not far from the house(had surgery on knee 10/1) or I would be in my Summit climber next to Joe on a Oak flat about 200 yards away. We will have radios. I hope he messes up and gives one of us a shot. There has been a abundance of acorns. He will be there. 3 more days until we are too... I will be hard to hold back on some decent bucks we have been seeing. But somehow I'll manage:D
