    Just sick...

I can't speak for everyone, but I will tell you Ive been pulling the string back on deer for 33 years and it has happened to me. You did all you could in recovery, the only way to make sure it never happens again is to never draw the bow back on another deer. NOT GONNA HAPPEN, don't beat yourself up you will be a better hunter with this experience in your memory. Just remember you can make the same shot on two different deer, one will run 150 yards and find cover, the other will pile up at 40 yards go figure. KEEP AT IT and good luck you may find him yet.
  2. you get a big ol ATTA-BOY, and welcome to the camp fire, sit a spell.
  3. great buck, great story congrats
  4. I know your pain, I've hit that dreaded shoulder and never got a deer when I did. I shoot 70 lb Mathews Q-2 but my draw is only 25 inches, don't have enough kinetic energy to get through them
  5. they have helped some, we are fortunate to have alot of private ground around us that join ours but I can honestly say I have not seen more big bucks on us that before, just alot less deer. JMO but I know more good bucks are being taken here
  6. Ok guys, most of you know me well enough to realize I love bow hunting. Yesterday morning I climbed in a stand I only hunt when the rut is cranking up. This was to start my roller coaster day. At 5:30 am the coyotes were singing to me, about 6:15 daylight broke to a beautiful day once again reminding me there is a creator and he does good work. At 7 am I did a little doe bleating and was sure I heard a deer walking but I could not tell where, about 5 minutes went past and I look to my left and there is a shooter making a scrape at 35 yards. Hear we go boy you need to make this happen, I started auto pilot made a small bleat with the grunt tube and prepaired for the shot. The buck came across the thicket to give me a broadside shot at 25 yards. I was shooting from the sitting position because I could not stand without spooking him. When I released I saw that impact was 5 inches back from where I wanted it. NOOOOOO Don't gut shoot him. I saw a good large spot of blood on his side as he ran up the mountain, I watched to see if the did the ol gut shot slow walk, which he never did, I was really hoping I got liver. Now for the hard part, I backed out quiet, went home and took the girls to school and went to the office. About 10 I went in and asked the owner if he had plans or if he wanted to help me look for a stud I just shot. We discussed the shot and he made me feel better about the way the deer ran out of there. We gave him till 1 and circled around in the direction he was headed, I know when the travel that area they use a logging road that runs on the upper bench so we headed there to start working back to where I last saw him. This allowed us to glass down onto the bench and maybe come from a direction he wouldn't expect just in case his head was still up. Aprox 50 yard into the stalk my boss spotted him piled up on the road, he died quick and running 30 yards after I lost sight of him. Here he is , the largest Pa whitetail I have ever had the oppertunity to take. 18 3/4 inside, 21 outside, dressed at 141 lbs, quick guess on the score puts him at 122 to 125 and by far my best archery buck.
  7. Al that is an awsome buck, well done.
  8. Glad you're ok mike that could have been really bad. We are both from the age that didn't even think of harnesses when we started climbing trees. Sometimes we revert back to that time, thanks for the wake up call to all us ol guys I have a few stands that need to come down and have the bolts replaced.
  9. great great buck, well done

Heck Ben if you play your cards right you might get someone to do if for you. LOL maybe a new hunting buddy. Love the room by the way, I do think the colors look fine.
  11. ATTA GIRL Ruth that is a great buck congrats to ya girl. Great shot too.
  12. Had a good frost here last two night ago now we get our first snow WT heck
  13. Dang Tim what did that horse weigh? Nice buck glad you had a safe hunt now get ready to shovel snow : )
  14. I'm guessing strut is getting hit already but here we haven't switched to snow yet. Raining pretty hard so I didn't hit the stand this am and it looks like heavy 1 to 2 inches per hr. latter todayso I doubt I will be in the tree this evening either. Looks like a day of loading the wood stove, working around the house and watching the penn state game. Be safe and have a great day.
  15. SIZE DOESN'T MATTER, SIZE DOESN'T MATTER, SIZE DOESN'T MATTER. It's my story and I'm sticking to it.

    First

Good Job on the first of hopefully many in a successful career. Don't sweat the button buck to much any deer with a bow is a trophy. ATTA-BOY
  18. Heck i have a radio collared doe behind the house and I wanted to shoot her and throw the colar on a passing train. LOL they would be saying this doe is doing 50 mph along the river headed for Harrisburg. It's all in fun.
  19. good looking meat there congrats
  20. that is soooo cool, tell her she get a big ATTA-GIRL from Jbeck. keep her in the woods and the streets will hold nothing for her. Congrats to All of you.
  21. Don't take it personal Nick, although you are absolutley correct to say other hunters are most of the problem. Gun hunters don't like bow hunters. bow hunters don't like cross bow hunters. traditional bow hunters don't like compound hunters, and guys that climb trees don't like guys that sit on the ground. By the way tell your buddy congrats on the buck and please get a photo of him in the field. Welcome to the forums.
