  1. Re: Smith & Wesson buys out T/C!!!!! Big News! 100 Million in cash...WOW! At 5 times earnings that would mean TC had a net profit of somewhere around 20 Million. This would mean that sales was around 120-130 million annually (A wild guess based on past aquisitions). I never would have guessed TC to be that large. My hats of the the TC owners. Now we have to wonder what is in store for the product line.
  2. Re: airplane woes I'll bet he's book smart now!
  3. Re: legal or illegal? AJ was absolutley right!!!!! Being an FFL dealer we have been all watching the responses to this question....I bet the ATF has as well. Its a big no, no. Kind of like sawing the barrel off an old savage double barrel 12 gauge to 12". Sounds great if you want to be housed by the state for a couple of years...fitting a pistol barrel to a rifle receiver could hold the same punishment as possesing a sawed off shotgun. Stupid, but true!
  4. Re: Top 5 Carry Guns (Civilian CCW) Being a 1911 nut case, I know what you mean about the Glock crowd. But the botton line is....."If you can't beat em, join em". I own two Glocks: 1 a glock 22 with a KKM barrel, extended slide release, 3 1/2 lb trigger kit and Millet nite sites. It shoots like a dream. I also have an M6 light/lazer system attached. It sets in my safe on the night stand. 2 Glock33: In the hands of an experinced shooter. The mini 357 sig is a whole lot of fire power in an easy to carry rig. This is my favorite out of the box pistol. I do have two finger extensions on the magazines. makes the pistol easier to control. Even though it is small, the glock minis are very accurate.I carry this pistol while hunting out west. It slips in and out of my cargo pants with ease. I would not hesitate to engage a bear at point blank range. The 357 sig packs a punch!!!!!! Still...as good as they are, I still prefer the 1911's. LONG LIVE THE 45AUTO MODEL 1911!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Re: Need Help Need Help If you can find a good used Savage Super Stryker they are the Bees Knees, the Cat's........I own one in .308. Personally I prefer the 308 or 7MM-08. These two cartridges use fast burning ball powders and tend to work well in short barrel pistols. Hangunnr and I hunt in Indiana. We can't use rifles, but we can use "hand cannons". My Savage has a muzzle break and has very little recoil. From a tripod stand or with shooting sticks, you can shoot 250 yards. Hangunnr, your buddy Keith witnessed me taking a 138 class 10 point and a 140 class 11 point from over 200 yards. Keith had already filled his buck tag (only one allowed all season in Indiana). We were hunting about 1000 yards apart. The 11pt went right under his stand! Crossed the field directly between us and I shot him in the chest at about 180 yards. The 165 gr Nosler ballistic tip loaded with BLC-2 traveling at 2560 feet per second picked the buck straight up and down. No tracking job here. This pistol is very accurate and the triggers can be adjusted (later models) I use a Leupold VariXIII scope. Its a cadillac rig for whitetail hunting with a pistol. Go to www.gunsamerica.com if you want to find one.
  6. Re: Create your own 1911 Yes, it is cheaper to build your own. I own a Wilson Combat (CQB) that costs around $2400. You can buy a Sprinfield Armory 1911 "loaded" model for around $850.00. This pistol already comes with an adjustable speed trigger and other goodies you won't have to add. Drop in a beveled mag well, extended slide release (if you want one, they can be difficult to match with holsters) nite sites, custom barrel and matching bushing and link (very important-the heart and soul of a great 1911-Nowak makes a great one!) light weight hammer and custom grips. Including Gun Smith fees, you can probably stay in the $1350-1450 range. Of course we are talking a primo piece.
  7. Re: How not to shoot a handgun.. I once shot a 577 Nitro express Double Rifle. It kicked like a Mule on steroids! I can't even imagine firing a handgun in that caliber. I give him credit for staying alive!
  8. Re: Top 5 Carry Guns (Civilian CCW) Outstanding Choices! You can back me up anytime.
  9. Re: Top 5 Carry Guns (Civilian CCW) The 5906 is a full size 15 shot gun. Its barrel is 4" in length and it weighs 38.3 oz. The 6906 is a mid sized/compact frame 12 shot gun. Its barrel is 3.5" and it weighs a mere 26.5 oz. The hammer is inset, and the pistol I had was ahead of its time....very smooth.
  10. Re: best all around big game rifle? The 300 Weatherby. It will cover every level of big game hunting. It will also do it at a very long range. My question is how can anyone own just one rifle. The are like eating Jays tater chips "You can't just eat one!
  11. Re: What caliber? THE 30-06 WINS Hands down as far as versitility! 1. Load it with a 150 grain spitzer and you have an excellent pronghorn load 2. Load it with a premium 165gr partitoned bullet and you have a "can do no wrong" whitetail load 3. Load it with a premium 180gr "Fail safe" "Barnes" "Swift" or "Nosler" and you can harvest anything that walks in the US Forests. 4. You can even load or purchase 200 or 220 grain bullets for close shots in the timber or for hunting bear over bait. Bonus! 130gr hollowpoints are fun "chuck bustaz"
  12. 1 Glock I'm a 1911 fan through and through and the glock is an "ugly duckling", but it is simply the easiest and most durable pistol to operate and engage that there is period! Throw in a custom drop in KKM barrel a 3 1/2 lb trigger kit and you have a custom shooter! 2. Sig Arms-The P220 and 226 are timeless. Even the Navy Seals went back to them. Sigs are smooth in the Double action mode. Holster very well. My favorite is the P220 (Yea, I have a .45 fetish) 3. The Smith and Taurus .38's The Tarus model 850 CIA is a real bargin and a fantastic 5 shot revolver. They do not fail and can be fired from and through a pocket. The Smith feather lites are a pleasure to carry. You would be suprized by the power of a 38+P round. I carried one in a ankle holster a many moon ago. 4.H&K USP Somewhat a new kid on the block, these pistols are real shooters. the compact 40 cal is about the finest 12 shot mid sized auto money can buy. Although a little pricey, they are rugged, accurate and easy to disassemble. the OD Green lower and matte finish upper make them a handsome piece (I know they don't need to look good). 5 Good quality 1911's Smith, Springfield Armory and Para make good quality units. I rank them 5th because the are more for intermediate to advanced shooters. They take the longest to clean and require know how in the "cocked and locked" mode. But, once mastered they are the easiest full sized pistol to carry in the concealed mode. The 1911PD (4 1/2" barrel) is a real shooter and sleeper for the price. I carry a Wilson Combat close quarters combat. Yea, its expensive, but so is a funeral. It is the finest shooting instument that I have ever held. Sleepers: If you can find a good used Smith and Wesson 6906 9mm, you have won the Lotto! A masterpiece Colt Python 4" 357; the 357 still rules the roost. This is one of the smoothest double action revolvers in existance the new Springfield polymer pistols. Not proven yet, but they shoot very, very well. OK guys, start ripp'in away! I know I have some critics and I know I've missed some!!!!!!
  13. Re: One in the pipe.... Hey slug shooter, Why don't you feel comfortable carrying a 1911 cocked and locked?
  14. Re: One in the pipe.... I also use a gun vault in the house, accept it contains an M4 Carbine with a halo sight and sure fire light kit. 100rd beta mag attached. No concealed carry necessary here.
  15. Re: One in the pipe.... Happines is a locked and cocked 1911. I have not found a weapon that engages from the holster faster (arguably of course). I can also engage targets quite rapidly with a Model 33 Glock. "One in the pipe" is the only option. Might as well not carry if its not loaded. Too much extra weight to be buried with. Marksman aim for center, sharpshooters shoulder high BUT THE EXPERTS ARE A' SMIL'IN WHEN THEY AIM BETWEEN THE EYES!
  16. Re: Carry gun How many guys out thier carry a wheel gun as a CCW? Why or why not?
  17. Re: Carry gun Regarding "tractor deer"; I bet the 22 (in any form) has killed more deer over the last 50 years than any other cal. combined. I'm sure there are not too many published records on hand. Get a group of farmers/ranchers at a poker table and the stat could have merit.
  18. Re: Carry gun A great choice for deer packing/self defense is the S&W 329PD. I believe the 4" 44mag weighs in around 24 ozs. I shot a doe with mine while moving a stand. It kicks like a mule, but is easy to carry and is pretty accurate. Need gloves to shoot this one, even with the rubber grips. I have a 460 Smith, a 475 Wildey and a 480 Ruger. The 329 out kicks them all! Not too much you can do about a 44 mag that only weighs 24ozs.
  19. Re: opening day muzzleloader buck Nice Buck! What county do you hunt in? I have a lease in Lake county (Urban zone) and in Starke county.
  20. Re: Trail Cams???????? Try PVC Foam. Its a little more expensive, but has great insulating properties. Used in automotive applications
  21. Re: Carry gun Snapper, Great Choices!! The S&W was once carried by a former partner. Saved his life!! The ol' 38 is STILL ONE OF THE BETTER CHOICES FOR CCW WORK!! I know I'll get some feed back here, but revolvers don't fail and they are the easiest to fire in or out of clothing. The 38+p+ is an awsome round as well. People, do not over look the wheel gun.
  22. Re: Carry gun Hoyt 19, I totally believe you! I once saw a Russian Boar downed with a 45 auto at about 60 meters. Still, ballistics and energy formulas tell us different. We are talking about broadside shots; Heart/Lung shots. Defensive hand guns don't belong in this world.
  23. Re: Carry gun Your question on the Tarus? I also own a gun shop. Not to many customers have been happy with thier Tarus PT. I have not personally fired one. The compaint was trigger and no accuracy at the range. I doubt this make a huge difference for you. You just need to be confident with it in your hands.
  24. Re: Carry gun Two things guys, First: Any caliber .380 on up is an excellent choice for CCW work. Actually, the Sig 230 would be a wonderful compromise between size and ease of engagement. Remember, the average deadly force engagement is 12-15 feet. Drills should be double tap-center mass. I would also look at the Springfield XD. Sig Arms, and H&K USP. Choose the 9mm based on your recommendation (cheap ammo) the Corbon 115+p+ is an outstanding round. Cheap 115 hardball for practice. The key here is practice, practice, practice. I personally carry a Wilson Combat 45 auto (carried a .45 for manny a moon), but I own over 30 handguns. I can tell you from experience, the fastest one to the party wins. Join a local IDPA leauge. You will have a better understanding of target engagment once you shoot a timed/pressured target course. I believe holster/load selection are more important than caliber. Second: The minimum recomended energy to humanly dispatch a whitetail is 500 foot pound of energy. A standard 30 cal (06' or 308) generate about 2800 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle. A 45 auto 185+P+ only generates 480 foot pounds. Not enough even at close range. A whitetail is way tougher than a man when termanial ballistics come to play!
  25. Re: Gun Selections The Knight Rifle hands down. The DISC in .50 will still have enough down range energy at 200 meters to harvest a whitetail (with 3 pellets of powder) the .45 does not posess enough energy for a human kill (yea, its possible but tough). The Knight is a better quality gun than the Omega (my opinion). I own a Knight long range hunter and a Thompson Encore. Each one has pros (very little Cons).
