  1. Re: inline or breakopen? I own both. I really can't say one is any more different than the other when it comes to cleaning. I can say that I totally love my Knight Long Range Hunter! One quick pull of a pin and the bolt is removed. Remove the breech plug and clean. BillKay is right about more nooks and Crannys. You don't have as many in the inlines. The less area that sees burnt powder....the better. My Knight .52 cal is a true 200 yard Whitetail Whomper!!
  2. Re: Who is going to the Shot Show? Thanks for the clarification! I would not want to joke around knowing someone drove 1000 miles to "feel steel". Your Right! I possess a side business and an FFL.......been going for years. You must preregister and have a badge to enter the show
  3. Re: What type of bullet do you shoot?? Great Load, Great round! Even though it is a young cartridge, the 300WSM shows promise as becoming one of historys great rounds. I own a Browning Shorttrac that is chambered in 300WSM, itw will compare (accuracy) to most turn bolts.
  4. Re: Remington VSF Yep! I have the VSSF in 220 swift. I'm replacing the factory trigger with a Jewel trigger. That was the only sore point I had with the gun, but I'm a known perfectionist when it comes to my rifles....a bit on the picky side. The rifle feels good and shoots great.
  5. Re: Who is going to the Shot Show? If you like fondling several shooting iron for 4 straight days......then you would love it! Realtree will be there as well.
  6. Re: What cartridge should I go with? If you are just using the rifle for Deer, than 30-06, 270 Win, and 308 Win are all fine hunting rounds. I like the ol' 06 the best (its a little more versitile). But I own and shoot all three. Alot of guys out west still use the 270Win, even on Elk.
  7. Re: Min energy A 180 Grain Bullet fired from a 300 Win Mag will handle any animal in North America with the exception of big bears (Browns and Griz). My Nosler reloading Manual puts the 300 Win at abour 3100 fps with a 180grain bullet. Most 180 grain 30 cal bullets have a ballistic coefficient of .460-.500. This makes them very fast down range. A 30 cal 180 Gr bullet with a BC of .470 (started at 3100fps) will still be traveling at 2000 fps around 600 yards. This still produces around 1700 foot pounds of energy. More than enough. Actually, Moose and Black Bears are not any harder to kill than a whitetail. I shot a bear in Montana with a 30-06 Ackley Improved at about 300 yards. No Movement at all...right through the boiler. I have had some trouble with Bull Elk, but found them. This year I used a 338-378 Weatherby...now that puts the hammer down!
  8. Any of you posters going to the shot show?
  9. Anyone in our posts going to be at the Shot Show in Orlando?
  10. Re: Single Action vs Double action Autos Does the trigger seem the same as a Glock's, or does it feel a little different?
  11. Re: Congrats LSU [ QUOTE ] Quinn, Calvin Johnson, Joe Thomas, Adrian Peterson, Gaines Adams, Alan Branch, and Dwayne Jarrett will all go ahead of Russell. [/ QUOTE ] Who said Alan Branch is going Pro! He's going to stay with Hennie and Hart and win it all!
  12. Re: Single Action vs Double action Autos I'm going to have to try an XD. I have yet to hear a negative comment.
  13. Re: Bullet blew up Happened to me on a Marlin 66.........gun was never cleaned.
  14. Re: One in the pipe.... Good.....and valid point. Training is everything! Kind of hard to downgrade a $200 pump gun that can be used as a meat shreader!! 00Buck at close range can be about as nasty as it can get. I LIKE THE RAZOR WIRE IDEA!......Shows I'm in with the right group of guys
  15. Re: Special doe season this weekend, gotta try it Best time of year to bag a doe for the freezer. Buck to doe ratios have to stay in check....thats why the DNR make these seasons. We have the "old" mentality in Michigan as well. The Deer population exceeds 2 million and people still think its a mortal sin to harvest more than one doe. If anyone has ever traveled down Interstate 94 Paw Paw, Michigan to Detroit (about 260 miles) in Jan-Feb. Its not uncommon to count 400-600 deer and 20-30 dead ones. Why would anyone want to harvest antlers over burgers? Doe make better table fare. Farmers cut hogs and cattle before taking them to market. Since we can't tell if bucks are sterile.....I'll bring a doe to the table anytime!!
  16. Re: LATE SEASON SUCCESS!!!! (PICS) Way to stay after it! Great tracking job!
  17. Re: Browning rifle I'll let these dead Mulies BOTH (05' and 06') shot with a Browning short trac in 300 wsm speak for themselves!
  18. Re: Sighting question [ QUOTE ] I do it like that, but skip the 25 yard thing. If you've got the bore and scope centered at 100 yards you should be on the paper at 100. Check your ballistics and sight it in high at 100 for what ever bullet you'll be using. I've never bee more than 2" off at 100 yards when bore sighting like you discribed. the 25 yard thing just seems like it would be a waist of ammo. [/ QUOTE ] Yup, especially with a 22 centerfire. 100 to 200 will not be much different due to bullet speed.
  19. Re: Single Action vs Double action Autos I agree with the SA/DA combo for general all round carry. But for true concealed carry I like the "locked and cocked" 45 auto. Here is my favorite carry rig. I should note that when I'm deer hunting I carry a Sig 220 in a shoulder rig. I don't like banging around my good 45's with exotic wood grips against tree stands. My 220 is a true blue work horse. I sent it to Sig and had the trigger pull shortend and the action hand honed. It is smoooth. Can you tell I like the 45 Auto. WE OFF THE PORCH BOYS DEAL IN BIGG THINGS!!
  20. Re: Smith & Wesson buys out T/C!!!! This is what Smith and Wesson needed to fulfill its business strategy. I don't think they would have spent that kind of money just to spin it off. Really means nothing for now. Knight Rifles are a formidable competitor. If I was Ruger, Remington or Mossberg I would be trying to buy them out. It would be a really good fit for Ruger.
  21. Re: binoculars help Hmmm.....I'll have to check these guys out at the shot show. I own a pair of Swarovski EL's and Leica's. I like the Leica's because the range finder is built right in! They were pricey ($2050.00), but the glass is every bit as good as Swarovski and the range finder is good to 1300 meters! They are just a tad heavier, but you eliminate the extra range finder.
  22. Re: OTP starter gun......... 3. You must have a dislike for hot cocoa. Do you swear to meet this criteria? Its kinda like the Hee Man woman haters club, except we love women.....but hate cocoa!!
  23. Re: BBD in Indiana! That's a great buck! Something to be proud of the rest of your life. Post a photo once you have him mounted. Congrats! and way to go for being good about the team Realtree Hat. I shot a tremendous Mulie this year.....and had borrowed the other guys camo (Mossy......). You get the picture and Realtree didn't. Way to go!
  24. Re: leupoldvxIII I'm going to go with the VariXIII. They hold up better than any other scope I have used. I own Swarovski and Leica as well as Leupold LPS, VariXIII. I don't currently own a Zeiss conquest, but have in the past. They are all great optics!!. Clarity in a scope is a matter of how much you want to pay for coatings. Also the size of the Objective and tube play a part. The 4.5x14x50 is an outstanding choice. I have one with the smaller objective on my Weatherby 270.
