  1. Re: Cant get it right Thanks!! I'm always searching for that Ultimate group/consistancy. I ordered the adapter Kit.....Now I finally have a home for the 5000 small rifle primers I accidently bought at an auction!! Hope they still work
  2. Re: Scopes I have a Leupold 2.7x8 VariXIII on Mine. I Love it. I think this might be about the best scope you can get.
  3. Re: New Addition to the Family The Sig P229 may be one of the finest carry/duty weapon of our time......pretty special woman!
  4. Re: Well, I bit the bullet and bought it Congrats! I own one from the Performance Center. They are very accurate with the Hordany 200 grain bullets. This is a specialized deer round that will shoot very flat out to 200+ yards. A great choice for states like Michigan (South) where a straight walled case is required. ENJOY!!
  5. Re: OTP ... Elk-Gun I'll stick to my 338-378 Weatherby Mag. At a little less than 11 pounds, I can at least make it up the mountain with out having a coranary! 23+ pounds would be a little rough to cart around. But you have to admit, a 750 grain bullet traveling at 2800 feet per second would gain a little attention at impact.
  6. Re: How big is the difference in quality (scopes) I own Leupold LPS ($1200 scopes) Swarovski ($1600 scopes) Leica Binos ($2200) and EL series Swarovski's, Nikon's and Bushnell elite 4200 series. Glass quality means everything. If you can't see it, you can't shoot it. Buy a cheap rifle and top it with a good scope. Boys, I have owned them all and I have to say that Leupold has the best scope/value combination. The band director needs to direct the choir elsewhere. High dollar optics ARE WORTH BUYING. Spend what you can afford. I will argue this point until we are all dead! I once saw a 140 class buck through my Swarovski El's, but could not see it through my scope. Its now on my wall! Why? because I saw it!! Most trophy deer move at first or last light. Be prepared. Hunt hard and carry the biggest stick you can! I will take top optics as my equipment any day!! Most Hunting Guides out west will tell you the same thing. Hunting in the mountains out west is how I became aquainted with good optics. I know its tough for some of your budgets, but save up for that 650-1150 Zeiss, Leupold, Nikon, etc. scope. You won't regret it!
  7. Re: National Championship Predictions (score) I sure like to shoot crow.......but I don't like to eat it!!!
  8. Re: The few...the proud...The OTPG!!!!!!! What do you know about the 577 TYREX. Anyone heard of it? Lets put it this way, the 460 Weatherby mag generates about 112 lbs of recoil at the shoulder. The 300 Win Mag generates about 55 lbs. The 577 TYREX (yea, named after the big ugly reptile from long ago) generates 145!!!! I'm thinking a Ruger Tropical. Once had one 450 Ackley. Great Gun. Traded it........wished I hadn't!!!!!
  9. Re: National Championship Predictions (score) BIG TEN RULES...................SEC DROOLS!!!!! OSU41-GAITORBAIT17 BIG BLUE HAS YOUR NUMBER NEXT YEAR BUCKEYE BOYS!!!! BUT FOR NOW, WE ALL COME TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE A BIG10 NATIONAL CHAMPION!!!!!!
  10. Re: Help with Knight Wolverine... Billkay would be correct. 100 grains is th max recommended load. Thats generally the case with all plunger type ignition systems. The fixed breech and Bolt systems have a fixed pin system, making them stronger; thus moving the max by 50 grains.
  11. Re: Remington 700 trigger adjustment. My latest purchase was a XCR in 375 Ultra Mag. The trigger sucks and the stock design is not a whole lot better. It does shoot well! I will replace the stock and trigger. My trigger scale reads about 5.3 lbs. Its not the weight, its the excessive creep. A gunsmith can adjust a Remington trigger by backing out two small set screws, then gluing them in place. Sorry, but things don't hold together well on Ultra Mags when they are glued. When I invest $5000-7500 in a hunt, I want to be fully confident in my equipment. Remington has a great action. Sounds like they know they need to address the trigger issue. Thier customer service is also second to none. Here is the procedure best explained.....but remember. Gunsmith only! Remington Trigger adjustment
  12. Re: Where\'s all the Michigan fans.... Boise State would not have a chance against any of those teams. I also agree with 3 things: 1. USC...may be the 2nd best team in the country right now. They totally shell shocked the offensive line of Michigan. No one had done that all year. Not even Ohio State. We still are not sure on LSU, because Notre Dame was that bad. 2. Ohio State 33-Florida 17. Ohio States linebackers will shine in this game. Troy Smith will be.......Troy Smith. Florida will turn the ball over twice, and Ohio State will cap. 3. Why can't someone put Loyd Carr out of his misery Lets face it. They guy cannot adjust during the game. He ran the same offensive formation over and over. What about the Shotgun...I formation......Sweep..AKE#$#%@@@@ makes me mad. All that talent and it can't be coached!! As the Chicago Bears know, if the offense can't stay on the field, then the Defense can't shine. This is what happened to Michigan
  13. Re: SEC...the strongest conference? I agree with that statement........and so do the fans at Notre Dame!! But, I'm still crying over my Wolverines! We have all the talent in the world, but don't have a head coach that can win the big ones. I know you still have to win the big one tomarrow night (and, yes we Wolverine fans will be rooting for you)but, we have your number next year buckeyeboy!! Hennie and Hart are coming back.....just.....for.....you!!!!
  14. Re: Slug question Try the Winchester Supreme with the Platnum Tips. Also try the Federal with the Barnes bullet. Lightfield makes some great slugs as well. You need to try a box of each though, slug guns can be finicky!
  15. Re: New gun I have a Marlin with the fluted barrel. Great cartridge and great rifle! Gongrats! Thanks for sharing.
  16. Re: Who is going to the Shot Show? If you go, let us know how you thought the show was.
  17. Re: January Photo Assignment Plain as Day I missed the Rules, was there a prior post for entry?
  18. Re: Remington 700 trigger adjustment. Thanks for the info! I'll check out Remingtons booth at the shotshow!
  19. Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? I think your looking too deep. That's the beauty of Realtree and Co. Everything is to the point with an up front meaning. I also like "Kill it and Grill it". Ted's a radical, but it had distinct meaning as I slow roasted some Elk steaks tonight. If you would have seen what it took to get that "Big" steak off the mountain...I DID WORK FOR THAT FOOD!
  20. Re: Remington 700 trigger adjustment. Definate Liability in trigger tinkering 101. Best left to a qualified Gunsmith. I usually replace my Remington triggers with a Timmney trigger.....but that mean another 140 bucks installed. I'm just extreme!

    .17 ?

Re: .17 ? What sets the 22 mag and the 17HMR apart are bullet designs. I think this may have somehing to do with trajectory. Your right, velocity is not that much different. I just know that my 17HMR is more accurate than my 22 Mag. May just be rifles....but I just like it. It was worth another rifle in the safe.....then again I don't need much of an excuse! PS In our state you can only use a rimfire after shooting hours (Varmint Hunting with a light). Fits the need........for speed!
  22. Re: Another new step in muzzleloading? Now thats interesting.......you wouldn't think it would generate a hot enough flash....but then again look whats happened with stun guns/tazers. Where the remington primer had to be a part of the system, does not seem like this would be so with blackpowder. I'll visit CVA at the shot show next Thus and report back.
  23. Re: Handgun for Deer Hunting Now there is one that I have not heard for a while. This is really a great cartridge. The 480 is a nice hunting round and pretty pleasant to shoot. That Redhawk is a nice platform.

    .17 ?

Re: .17 ? I disagree comparing the 17HMR to the 22. The 22 is not a true 100 yard cartridge. The 17HMR is! The 17HMR is really in a class by itself. Even though I own several centerfire 22's, the 17HMR sits by the back door waiting for bunny-bunny or the casual garden invader in the summer. Its about 75 yards to the garden. PEERRFFEECCT! I already have 8 notches on the stock of my Marlin. Fun, Fun, Fun. Rimfire on steroids is the best way to describe it.
  25. Re: How Long? Corrosion is a muzzleloaders worst enemy. I think the unfired loaded ML would be fine for the season. But don't leave it loaded after the season is over, you would recieve some type of corrosion long term.
