It's had to tell from the pic, but it doesn't look to me like his sides don't match. I think he has been injured in the past. The way I can tell this is his left brow time is almost coming off of his base and there is a really deep fork after his brow tine goes back into the main beam. When you look at mostly all "normal" deer their brow tines are very similar. One might be a little longer or have a crook at the end but at the base of the point they look very similar. Also it looks like his left beam goes almost straight up. I might be wrong but it looks to me like he has been injured on the right side of his body. Anybody agree with me?

How's your dove season going?
nemodeerhuntersneighbor replied to Huntress's topic in Upland & Small Game
The second morning was the only day I had a chance to go. I killed 8 on about 4 acres of sunflowers. The reports I have been hearing has been pretty poor. One guy I know that hunts on the mississippi river said that it was the worst opening weekend they have had in the 30 yrs they have been hunting this spot. Conservation says the numbers are down this year b/c of a very poor hatch. But our archery season starts sep. 15th so I have bigger and better things on my mind!! -
I agree with a couple of you. I think this deer is a 4 yr old maybe older. And he would be tough to pass but that is the difference in killing nice deer and big deer. You can't kill a big one if you kill a nice one. I'm trying to make that next step. Oneida man, I think a blocky face with a short nose is the sign of a mature buck not an immature one. If you look at the smaller buck in the one picture his nose appears much longer. That is b/c he is a 2 yr old and his face (and the rest of his body) hasn't filled out. Agree?

Early Slick Horn 10 pt.
nemodeerhuntersneighbor replied to nemodeerhuntersneighbor's topic in Photography & Video
Hey Brad6639, you might have to wait a year because I would like to give him another year. He might be a bruiser next year (if he survives). -
Step right up and Guess the Age...
nemodeerhuntersneighbor replied to c_lou's topic in Photography & Video
I would say 3 yr olds both of them. Another year and they will be bruisers -
I have 5 trail cameras. 1 Cuddeback Excite and 4 Stealth Cams. Sometimes its hard to keep up with that many but its alot of fun. How many do you have?

These first 2 bucks are going to and leaving a freshly picked corn field. It was the first one around picked which means that the deer were all over it. Just a nice young deer hitting a salt lick.

I have never seen a buck without velvet in august before. This was taken on the 8-28 and it looks like he has been without velvet for at least a couple of days. Early for these parts. How old is this deer? Looks like a 3yr old to me. What do you think?

Got my 06 buck back from the taxidermist. Still waiting on my bow kill from January. Hope to get it back pretty soon. I'll post pics of it when I get it. I am running out of room for them. I don't plan on leaving them how they are in the bottom picture but I took a pic so I could get all 4 in one pic.

These are from the new stealth cams. They take alot better pictures than the 2006 2.0 mp cameras. I like them. The top pic is from V-450 4.0 mp camera. The bottom is from V-550 5.0 mp. Can't tell much difference in the pic quality.

He isn't the biggest deer around but he definitely looks mature. I don't think I would shoot him on opening day but I would like to harvest him. He is really pretty. I normally am very picky the first few weeks of bow season because you never know what kind of bucks you run across during the rut and I live for the excitement of early november. What do you think? BTW these pics are from new stealth cam V-550

Notice the buck looking on in the background. I didn't see it the first couple times when I was skimming through the memory card. I was about to delete it. Hard to tell but it looks like a pretty nice buck. Kinda cool

Only picture I got of this deer. Wish he would have walked another foot before he stopped. I had my stealth cam set to take 3 pics at a time and this was the first one he was gone after that. Hopefully I'll get a another pic of his some time.

I would go with a stealth cam v-450. It is 4 megapixel has a viewing screen and you can get it for $160 after the mail in rebate. You can get the i-450 for $119 after mail in but it doesn't have the viewer. I like them better than my cuddebacks.

Ummmm, WOW! That's all I can say

The one in the last pic that is broadside in front of the salt lick is definitely older than 2.5. Personally I think all of them are at least 3yr olds and he might be 4. Great Pics!!

I bought some buckgrub off of ebay just because it was cheap. I have had no luck with it. I just dumped it on the ground at first with no luck. Then i poured some buck jam on it and they still haven't eaten it. Really disappointed

Long beams, good spread, good tine length. I would say about in the 140's if hes an eight, and in the 150's if he is a ten. Beautiful buck!!

The drury boys use them and they leave unbelievable holes. The entry hole is especially surprising. Most expandable's don't leave very good entrance holes because the aren't open all the way when they penetrate the hide but because of the design of the rages they leave a full entry hole. I'm going to cabelas tomorrow and I am going to buy some 3 blades. My buddy ordered some from cabelas catalog and they were backordered. He got his shipment yesterday and they cancelled the rages. Said it would be at least another 2 weeks till they got them in. So somebody must be buying a few.

The best way to get more deer like that and bigger in your area is to pass them up. Great deer for a child but if you have already killed a nice deer or two let him walk. He's definetely a nice deer but you'll feel just as good if you pass him than if you shot him.

I had been seeing this buck a lot so I put my camera out where I had been seeing him. And of course as soon as I did that, I quit seeing him. I did have a couple pics of his hind end and that's it. Took over two weeks to get these pics. I found a set of sheds last year that had some of the same characteristics as this deer but isn't the same deer. That deer grossed in the 160's. This buck looks pretty mature to me. His body looks pretty big for this time of year. How old do you all think he is? What about gross score? I think with all of his mass he'll go 140 gross typical. Looks to me like he is at least 4 yrs old.

Deer and water idea.....
nemodeerhuntersneighbor replied to toddyboman's topic in Land & Wildlife Management
Hey todd, the latest field and stream had a little piece on this idea. I think it would work good. They recommend using a landscaping tub though. I think the little plastic swimming pools wouldn't work very good because they are to thin. We have all seen what they look like when you leave them out for the summer. They usually get very brittle. Needs to be thicker plastic. The water should last a lot longer than a shallow pond because the ground won't absorb any of the water. -
Ouestion about trail cam
nemodeerhuntersneighbor replied to bigbuck145's topic in Photography & Video
Go to chasingame.com they have all kinds of camera reviews. I have tried moultrie, stealthcam and cuddebacks. I think for the best value stealth cam is the way to go. The best thing is the burst mode. The new stealth cam's can take up to 9 pics everytime they trigger (which is a little excessive i think). Mine take up to 3 at a time and it is great for getting multiple angles of bucks. They have come a long way as far as trigger speed and although not as good as a cuddeback they are definitely sufficient. They have a more sensitive motion sensor and will not miss as many animals as a cuddeback. Seems to me that cuddeback has been taking steps backwards everysince they came out. My buddy had an expert and a no flash and he didn't like either as much as the original cuddeback 1.3mp. I don't have any major objections with my cuddeback excite but it wasn't worth the extra money in my opinion. That's my opinion
