  1. With all the new technology out there, it seems there's a thousand ways to video your hunt now. I often hunt alone and have a tree arm for my hand held video camera to film hunts. I find myself not wanting to use it as much because of all the extra weight and set up time. Do any of you have any set ups you use for GoPro or smart phones in particular? I've got a friend that has a Jackknife phone holder for his bow, but unfortunately it seems to move when he releases the arrow and it doesn't show the best footage on impact. Are there any smart phone tree mounts or systems you've engineered? Thanks!
  2. I've heard of people making their own mineral supplements to feed the deer. Is there anyone out there that makes their own and would be willing to share the recipe? I'm looking to cut some cost from the "name brand" minerals, but still supplement the herd. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    FOB's

Anyone ever tried these before? I saw a video on YouTube and wondered how well they work.
  4. Outstanding deer! That one will always hold a special memory. Thanks for sharing!
  5. The area I planted was an old beaver pond than had been drained and grew up in weeds and swamp grass. I had a small strip 15'x50 planted last year and decided to expand it this summer. It is now about half an acre. I pushed off the plot in late July and turned in under in early August. In NC, we had a dry summer (up until late August) so I sprayed Round Up on what ever was still alive in mid August. I disced the area after Labor Day and planted the Lidino. I used 10-20-20 fertilizer (100lbs) in addition to Lime. I was thinking about spraying Arrest on the plot since I've read it is recommended for clover plots.
  6. I carry a Ruger Super Redhawk 454 Casull in the woods with me. It has a 7.5" barrel with a Bushnell 3200 2x6x32 firefly scope. I love it. It's the closest to bowhunting as you will get. I hunt with 240gr. Hornady hollow points and they have dropped every deer I've shot in their tracks!
  7. I need advice on spraying a plot. I planted a lidino clover plot in early September and it has started to come up. The only problem, the unwanted grasses/weeds have too. Do I let it go and let ol' man winter handle them and spray in the spring or do I spray now while the weeds are young? If I spray now, will it hurt the young clover?
  8. How do you all keep you gear scent free between hunts? With all the new scent blocking bags on the market, are they worth it? Seems like a good heavy duty trash bag could do the same thing at a fraction of the cost. Just curious how everyone else does it.
  9. If you are looking for a large hole and good blood trail, go with the Redhead Gators. A cheaper alternative to Rage, but just as deadly.
  10. WOW! That buck is gonna be a dandy. Much further along than anything I've seen so far
  11. Where do you typically see deer feeding this time of year? I have two food plots (clover) in two completely separate areas that are almost pictureesk on how well they have done. Problem is, the cameras aren't getting very much activity on the plots. I know there are deer in the area but for some reason they don't seem to be hitting the plots like they do in the fall. Any ideas on why or is it just theres so much green this time of the year they are feeding everywhere? Thanks!
  12. How often do those of you who grow clover plots mow them? I've heard that people typically mow them three times a year. This year my clover plots seem to be growing very fast (not complaining:clap:)! I mowed it down about 4 weeks ago to around 6" and now it's back up to the 12"-14" range. When do you all typically decide to mow your plots? Thanks!
  13. If so, what video cameras have you found to be good? I've started doing this myself and have an older JVC that does a decent job, but I am looking to upgrade. The camera is a little noisy when starting and stoping the video and can be a little grainy at times once I start to zoom. I am looking for a camera that is quite, good quality and zoom around the $400-$500 price range. Thanks!
  14. I wasn't even aware of the QAD. Glad I asked. This sounds like the way to go. Looking at them, is there a significant difference between the hunter and the pro series to warrant the pricing difference? I looks like you get the micro adjustments to fine tune better on the pro series, but is that worth the extra $55? Thanks for the help!
  15. I am looking to change my set up and get a new arrow rest. This past season I found my arrow coming off of my rest several times. I am looking for a rest that "contains" / "holds" the arrow in place so that I do not have to worry about my arrow coming off. I've looked at the whisker biscuit, drop zone, and a few others that contain the arrow. I am shooting Easton epic 400's. Any thoughts on what I should go with? Thanks for the help.
  16. I am looking to plant a fall plot that I can hunt through out the season. I am in NC and 2 of the 3 small spots are partially shady. I am debating on whether I should plant either rye or oats in with some clover. I have heard that rye grain would probably be best, but wanted to get some additional feedback. Thanks!
  17. Here are a few pics from the trail cam this year. There are pictures of one buck in particular as he has progressed with time. 2007 "Crabby" (probably 1.5-2 years old) Now "Crabby" ( 3.5-4 years old) Another 8 working a scrape A good cull candidate over the same scrape Young 7 working another scrape
  18. I have a pair of Bushnell Bighorns and have had them a couple years. I took my girlfriend hunting yesterday and she was trying to get them to focus in and never could get it. After trying myself I could not get both lens to focus together. Its like one side will focus and the other will not. You keep adjusting it and then the other side comes in focus while the previous side goes out. Almost seems like each side is focusing in opposite directions. One goes in and the other goes out, then vis-versa. I have not dropped them, bumped them, etc. It just started happening. Any ideas?
  19. I just purchased a Summit 180 and had a question about carrying it. I have the backpack straps on the foot platform as it shows on the box. As I was walking in the woods today, it was a nightmare. The stand seemed to not stay together as I carried it and was catching on legs and boots. I had the straps as tight as they would go on my shoulders trying to hold it up. Does anyone have a special technique or know the "special" trick to get both parts to stay together tightly while walking into the woods???? Thanks
  20. Quick question. Is it just my bow (Parker Hunter Mag) or is something wearing out that is cause it to make what seems to me a loud "thummp" noise when I release the shot. I have Limb Savers, a Limb Saver bumper on my string guide, and silencer on my bow string. Any ideas?
  21. Very nice! Good luck with them this season
  22. I shot a robin hood this afternoon while I was practicing. I finally learned a lesson from aiming at other nochs. I tried to get a picture uploaded but the file size was to big. How common is it to do this?
