been scarce on the forums. congrats if you're going to have a kid. they do kill a rifle budget. 8 diapers a day seems like they never run out of ammo. my daughter turns 1 yr old wed.

know exactly what 10 yards looks like in increments out to 40 yards on flat ground, up hill, and down hill. in the female hunter class you'll shoot from the orange stake which is supposed to be 30 yrds max plus maybe 2 for "range finder error". don't default to this though shoot it for what you think it is, some targets seem to be stretched out a little further and people get discouraged when they default to the rule book max and not estimate the range for themselves. shoot at know distances with a rangefinder and check them with casual foot steps. you'll be walking to check the target after everyone shoots. if you haven't read the rules and etiquette section of the IBO rules do so, there's some ticky tack crap in there. if people keep calling you out on an honest mistake at the very least it'll effect your shooting as if you were taking a drivers test. good luck!

flies!!!! Potential very bad year for ehd here
dbHunterNY replied to wtnhunt's topic in Deer Hunting
my understanding is the EHD isn't like CWD were it can be transmitted from deer to deer by prions so readily in a d. biting bugs are the vector of transport. when draughts happen a couple things occur. animals like deer congregate with means infected bugs can easily get from deer to deer to infect them and seem like the disease is "spreading". also those biting bugs rely on standing water to breed. less sources of water to breed in means more likely infected bugs are present in any given source of water. I have a couple theories. we don't seem to have EHD here though to test it which is very fortunate so i'm okay with the situation. if you have watering holes on your grounds keeping them opened up so a breeze or wind can make it difficult for the bugs to fly to were they want could probably help. otherwise man made sources like spring fed tubs with an outlet help. if digging a watering hole make it narrow and longer with an inlet and outlet to create constant flow. solutions aren't really solutions to eliminate the problem. EHD will still pop up I'd imagine but it'd most definitely help. -
all over the place now. sightings of some triplets even.

big fan of the MOAR reticle... it's one of my bucket list items but in more magnification.

that'd be awesome for woodchucks out to 500 or so yards. 55gr starts to lose steam quick after that even at close 600 fps than what I'm used to. hogs would be alright too I'd think but we don't have them up here.

lobster in Maine was expensive this year back in April when we went. Congrats on a great season and enjoy the downtime.

I'm not around much anymore but still check-in from time to time. All the errors and slow loading is definitely noticeable enough to attribute mostly to the reason why. Like Clint said use Tapatalk. I've been posting on the go and ALL pictures using it with minimal issues. allow a half minute to update showing your post. editing posts seemed to be a pain giving errors. However, that's really it. Haven't tried to edit my profile, check messages, or anything else. just post in threads and upload pictures.

290 is definitely respectable... congrats Ruth. you should qualify. I'm trying to remember but I think you'll get a letter in the mail.

Congrats on winning! Just shot in one local outdoor 3D league yesterday evening. First shoot of the year. Definitely have to kick the rust off but still shot a 298/330. botched a couple and estimated range wrong on the lion that was out there past 40 yards I feel. so that cost me at least 6 points right there as I shot 8s for those. definitely fun and great practice to keep you sharp throughout the year.

From Tim in Wabowden, Manitoba - "last night at 7:35pm this guy showed up. He wasn't in a good mood, decided he didn't like me in the tree stand so he stood and voiced his opinion. I in turn, turned it over to my complaint dept., overseen by CVA. We won! Pics later!"

That far north and these are the views you get at that bear camp.

a lot of the times he'll hang up in that situation. calling to him does nothing but make him gobble in place and the hens pull him away. call to the hens though... whenever you get a response from them imitate exactly what they spit out. I've had that work multiple times. he comes in behind them every time. just realize they'll be watchful and close to don't move until you take the second or two to aim and take the shot.

congrats Al. long beard is a long beard this year. seems to be a slow year for many. looks promising for next couple years with an egg layer like that. hopefully recruitment is good and they survive.

a fart in the wind could definitely open up that last group. seems like it shoots plenty well to me. you're shooting match loads with it but any intentions of using it for anything other than paper? be a shame not to.

Larry the Cable Guy said he met her while peeing at a urinal once... nice lady.

haha.... yea joe you bet I looked it up! still close to an hour and a half hike from here. sounds like a store I've seen while on vacation down in Florida called Rural King.

not much being turned here. all perennial and still producing hay ground. we've got lots of hills and rocks. 55-90+ hp 4 wheel drives to hold back equipment. hills can be a little greasy still.

good luck when you get out there. so busy I haven't been scouting at all. i'll have to pull weekend warrior duty to get them this year too. always fun though despite our later starting season. -

dbHunterNY replied to wtnhunt's topic in Deer Hunting
I'm coordinator for a deer co-op now of 11,000+ acres. all the local hunters check their deer in that is harvested on co-op participating land and take a minute or two to pull the jaw bone. from their we'll use that for age and a couple other things. each year i'll age 200 or so with another coordinator and then have an actual deer biologist very familiar with jaw bone aging look at them for a multiple opinion estimate. from there we can use that info for a lot of stuff management wise like assessing deer health or adjusting doe harvest. the goal being to change to brown it's down and screw you I got my deer mentality. try to teach a kid about what happened in a third world country long before they were born and get silence. teach them things like how to age a deer jaw from the deer they just harvested with their parent or older sibling and you get attention with lots of "whooaa"s, "cool"s, and questions.
