don't have the Elite setup yet. just shooting my plain hunting bow for a league. shot a 307/330 this past week. targets where close or far (45+ yds).

some rule changes out here with NY DEC still trying to manage the deer herd and deal with the hurdles that stop them, as well as them being a state entity are slow to roll anything out. in some units said to be over populated their rescinding a previous first two weeks of doe only that bans buck harvest. putting it back to doe or buck. they're trying something else by introducing an early September muzzleloader season before early bow season in October. that will be doe only and might tack on the same at the end of late season which for us in this area of NY is mid December. most importantly they'll start to publicize info about what yearling bucks look like and (in a round about way) benefits of passing them. no regs in place like antler restrictions or anything like MS. just hoping hunters will start to do it more and more voluntarily.

awesome Al! I'm jealous. hunting should be good and the eating it even better.
-
the original poster said they take many 2.5 yr old bucks. upset the biggest was 137". 140" is a realistic limit to how big a buck in most parts of the country. it takes old age to get better and it sounds like they don't have too many that get there. a buck can only beat the odds for so long after it's an open season on him. doesn't leave much chance making it to 5.5+ to ensure he's over 90% of maximum antler growth if he starts getting shot it at 2.5 yrs old. buck home ranges are often several hundred acres or more. a few good acres is better than a bad 50 acres.

ok, guess I'll be the first this summer to say it.......

went to a wedding in Georgia over the weekend. was over 90 the whole weekend. too hot. think I drank gallons of water each day. came home to upstate NY and had to turn on the heat it was in the low to mid 50's. -
it just takes practice. same as actual shooting up or down inclines to verify your 3rd axis adjustment is correct that won't cause you to cant your bow from in incorrect bubble level on your sight.
-
little bit of both. not miscalculated yardage though. it's just you can judge line of sight yardage where up or down hill your arrow is effected only by the horizontal component of that. only when it's really steep do you really see the big differences of say 10 yards in perceived yardage vs actual horizontal yardage. usually it's the angle changing your form a little. you can bend at the waist but only so much.

awesome 2nd shoot! can't expect much better than that. championships are won with scores of 15 or so up! a lot of times you end up being high or low out of the 11 even if you're shooting good. that extra or less couple yards is enough. when I'm hitting "X"s I've noticed I'm being particular with yardage. First break things down into nearest 10 yard increments to the target. now is it halfway between, like say 25 or 35? if not, now does it look like is it less or more than half? look at other objects right next to it or the terrain between it. uphill or downhill always assume your form isn't going to be perfect and you might shoot a tad higher.

yup land is one of the few things that's always being chopped up, trading hands, and more isn't being made.

there's a ton of stuff out there that's NOT the main stream stuff on the radio like Luke Bryant's "drinking beer and wasting bullets" (horrible practice to be combining the two.) or "Huntin', Fishin' and Lovin' every day". one I've got in my phone right now is Walt Gabbard.... look him up. Edit: Old thread coming to life doesn't matter to me.

you can use those too methods 20-40 or 2-60. this gets you close. consider that the less accurate your 20 yard sight-in settings are and the closest your further calibration distance is, the less chance you'll have the accurately matched tape. what I usually do instead is sight-in at 20 yards very well. I take a while to and shoot a lot of hole on the same target and/or piece of cardboard as a backer. I then go back to 80 yards (full marked length of tapes available) and sight-in there. i'll use a blank tape they give you or masking tape, marking the two sight-in positions. you then carefully remove it and compare your length with that of the other tapes they provide. even if you don't shoot at 60 yards, using 60 versus 40 yards if you can for setup will be more accurate in the end. for 3D what I found is most useful is actually the pin guard adjustment to change pin brightness. I always move it so I'm dim enough to prevent the halo glare effect of an overly bright pin, even with mine that uses a .010" fiber.

haven't been out really. around here anywhere we've got panfish we've got a ton of sunfish so it's hard to tell. maybe there the same I don't know.

Anthony as a fellow NYer I have no idea what language you were talking in, but the rifles look great! went up to Maine and found out they ditched a pistol permit all together. Had a whole display section for Sig Sauer. cabinet of silencers, extended mags and all kinds of good stuff. thought I was going to get cuffed and stuff just for looking at them though. sounds like Texas move is only getting better for you. much different than NYC.

always thought about getting one for woodchucks. Good luck with it.

I'm not on here much now. are you still doing your own seed for certain things?
-
anything we've got is alfalfa or older hay ground. for smaller food plots a really great company for food plot in a bag seed is DeerAg here out of the northeast. fairly new but good stuff.
-
geez if I had a hunting rig that nice I'd be out of excuses if I missed!! nice bow Ruth. ...those western NY deer are in trouble.
-
depends on if they've got nock collars or not and if it's for hunting or target. hunting setup my heads or points are out past in front of the riser for more weight and just because I guess. for 3D they're cut 1/2" past the rest arm. lighter and stiffening up a lighter spine to get a 5 grains per lb arrow weight. I think those are maybe 27-1/4" and I'm a 29" draw length.

yardage is huge. 291 is a great score though. in 3d competition 8's are bad but you will have a couple. some targets are just too far and the scoring rings too small. haven't finished getting the new Elite setup yet. been busy.

weather seemed tough... not sure if you're stacking doubles but we've still got 10 mornings left for the turkey season here. show season after that. maybe i'll make it to one. it's been a while.
-
Working on setting up the new Elite for outdoor 3D. Plan on attending NEBA shoots that are all clubs in this area. Probably attend an IBO qualifier up north too. Local league I more likely attend starts up after turkey season usually.

it was a joke implying the buck looks bothered from being on the wall. nice looking mount and a great buck Don.
-
haha... nothing of interest really. just chances to win stuff like BassPro gift cards, guns, and custom scope for 6 days a week all this year.
-
loose is a good choice. pellet degrade after a while sitting in the container wicking any moisture they can and from getting banged around. I've even seen differences in temps effect accuracy.

awesome! lessons from a good pro shop or just shooting with someone who shoots really good will help. keep an open mind and ask for help. sometimes a good shooter will want to tell you but won't you unless you ask. some people don't take criticism well.
