  1. Either name is fine by me. Hunting NY southern zone so my hunting is same as Turkeygirl's. Been busy as I help run an 11,000+ acre QDM Co-op. You're guaranteed a doe at least from me for points. We'll see about a buck. have multiple 8 pointers running around and whatever else works in once the stages of the rut kick in. I always wait until after they bucks disperse but I've got some cams out now. going on vacation with the wife 2nd week of bow season but will be back. won the championship for a 3D bow league that's gone on all summer. once I scout more and get on a deer I should be good once I get to full draw. I'll try to check in as often as I can. Good luck everybody!
  2. I use my open shot all the time. when I hunt public land deep in it it helps. no bells and whistles at all that adds weight. seats that fold up are nice. not sure if there's a climber that has that though.

  4. not in Mississippi anymore Todo! good pictures. not something you see.
  5. awesome again trip Al. Congrats to all of you! Good to hear Erie was able to turn things around and not it get to him the whole trip.
  6. that's what I was wondering about. how the differences in neck lengths/grip on the bullet would effect accuracy round to round.
  7. Don if possible I'd pick up a crossbow. shooting all year long. haven't done a single food plot or put out a cam. busy. not all a loss meetings with state wildlife deer folks, local deer management co-op stuff, and other volunteer QDM efforts.
  8. you can ask Tim about no blood and ml hits. we've all had them. my biggest buck to date not a drop of blood and it ran about 40 yards, despite it had a hole in top of heart. after that same ml sabot and powder combo produced great blood trails. I've done the Mountain Mikes euro mount route on that buck. came out well. years later it has cracked the expoxy/putty seems of the real skull plate and fake skull. they're the size of a mature skull so anything less than a 4.5 yr old buck might be a little small with more blending. I'd put it lower to look at. I'd go with sawed off skull plate wrapped with velvet on the lazered plaque Joe linked with imagine from you all that day if you've got one.

  12. Still using the Rage Titanium 2-blades they don't make anymore. titanium ferrule, 2+" cut blades, and a wrap around cut-on-contact tip. I've had one rip through a whole doe before in the front shoulder and out the hind quarter. still can't believe it happened. just doesn't make sense. my supply only goes down from losing arrows into and through deer. using lighted knocks might help find the arrow. I've still got regular Rage 2 blade heads to use when I run out. for my traditional setup I've got 100gr Magnus Stringers screwed into massive brass inserts with weights behind them.
  13. only my wife's... they're white odd vane, hot pink zebra other vanes, on a hot pink/purple smoke wrap. mine are boring. just fletched. might throw on some C-EZ Realtree reflective wraps just on the shaft in front of the vanes. I don't shoot lighted nocks is why.
  14. Yea the laminated stock rifle is a Savage Model 12 chambered in 223Rem. I found it used years ago and had to have it. it's a dedicated chuck gun and paid for itself a while ago. I know I'm not at a 1000 chucks yet but it's in the hundreds. longest head shot i've made with it was somewhere close to 312 yards with the rangefinder. otherwise the farthest i've setup on one was 427 yards but here in the northeast at the foothills of the Adirondacks, it's tough to setup for a shot that far with the terrain. not flat for very long. thought about getting a 17HMR for some fields that are closer in proximity to some neighbors. 223Rem is a nice happy medium cost wise. the BlackHills ammo runs me about $0.70/rnd with tax, shipping, etc for under 1/2MOA accuracy. it'll be less than half that cost once I start reloading.
  15. Been missing from here due to being busy. Haven't gone out as much as I'd like. Took some in spring but hay fields in the farm just recently have been mowed off to allow me to get after them. Had an issue of running out of my favorite BlackHills ammo that shoots groups the size of a US minted quarter at 200 yards. I've since got ahold of 250 more rounds and with the fields cut the count should climb if I can get out there. I'm only at 12 if you count one with dads deer rifle. All close so far. Farthest shot (last pic) was at 226 yards. Almost all have been juvenile chucks moving in from the surrounding area.
  16. I've been MIA but trying to make it a point to get on here more again. I'd be in.
  17. I think it'll start coming down to brands being the official brand of or partnering with various conservation based organizations that'll sway sales.
  18. since mossy oaks dark blob of a pattern with original "break-up" they've got better. other brands are more general purpose tactical camo like which is still ok. realtree still is loaded with great patterns that work. expanding and replacing older patterns might be the route they go. the newer patterns are pretty good and hard to improve I'd imagine.
  19. sounds like a big future ahead. hope it was a good weekend and july 4th. sounds like the R&R was needed.
  20. Good luck Ruth. with everything going on I'm not going to have the time really make it to other big shoots.
  21. have a safe and successful trip Al. gotta be like a kid on Christmas eve.
  22. peak breeding is pretty consistent year to year. weather and other stuff tends to get young bucks fired up early to late, but breeding stays pretty constant throughout the US. have seen fawns out and about to where they're at least a good month old from how they get around. after three weeks they're pretty agile. http://www.qdma.com/articles/no-link-between-moon-phase-and-rut-peak
