Good looking rifle-------That 300 WBY will have no problem in taking a Kodiak Brown bear----Bob
-You said for moose & elk-------I've been using my 30/06 for 30 years.
I'm packing as I'm typing. I'm headed up the mtn on Friday for the 1st elk rifle here in Colorado. I've got a friend coming up from TX, he'll be here tomorrow nite. Grocery shopping & check the rifles on Thursday. Then drive up the mtn & set camp on Friday. Hopefully, pack out some elk on Sunday.
No ram for my better half. We saw ewes & lambs. She could have shot a 1/2 curl but she already has a ram. She was looking for a real nice one. The other 2 hunters both killed good ones. But they were younger than us & were willing to hit the steep nasty after them. 15 years ago I would have but on the wrong side of 60, I thought different.
In my case NO---I shoot a 30/06. Plain Jane 180 grain "Core-lokts" or "Power Points" kill just fine. I use them on everything---moose, elk. mtn lion, deer, bighorn sheep, mtn goats, oryx, black bear and antelope.
Umpired a softball tourney-------That's how I make my mad money------It pays for the RT turkey hunt in KS every spring at Hickory Creek. See you there next year Al
No moose tag for me either. I've been applying since they started over 20 years ago. I did a softball tourney down in Ignacio on Memorial Weekend. It was Los Pinos Days & the Ute had their "Bear Dance". Only thing I drew was a 1st season elk tag which is 100% draw.
Looks like I'll be playing sherpa this September. I back doored the sheep draw results---my wife has a 563 code----it has meant in past years that he name was drawn for a tag. Time to get the gym.
Just got back home. It was hard hunting, weather was bad. My better half missed a gobbler. Saw birds everyday. I'm already signed up for next year. I gave Adam the $ before I left KS.
Adam did his job, the birds were there, mother nature decided that we needed about 3 " of rain in 3 days.
Al, good luck on those Mizzu gobblers. I'm headed out for a merriams on Saturday.
