  1. Try Dick Ray @ lobo outfitters in Pagosa Springs, Co 970-264-5546. He killed one a few years ago that looked liked an African lion----it was huge. It's a winter hunt------CB
  2. I let my wife use my Berretta o/u. She's killed severalgobblers with it. Full & mod chokes. I put the full choke in the bottom barrel & have it selected as the 1st barrel fired. That way it's recoil is more into her shoulder. It can shoot 3" shells but we use 2 3/4"-----mainly because my 870 only shoots 2 3/4". I don't want to think of which shells to use @ 5AM. I believe in the KISS method. Keep It Simple Stupid. CB My dad also use a double barrel----it's a sXs. Double barrel guns work. CB
  3. Good choice, the only problem I can see is that your son will be on the porch with me drinking cocoa. CB
  4. Thanks, only problem I've got is that WY's & Co"s elk seasons are the sametime. I've got 4 more years to wait before I can even apply for moose. CB
  5. 84-----Your reciever has an ejector clip that kicks out the empty shell & it's set for 2 3/4" shells. A 3" shell will jam the gun. A gunsmith can reset it. My 870 will only shoot 2 3/4" shells, got a new barrel that will shoot 3" shells----but I still use the 2 3/4". They work. Baby mags kill turkeys as dead as any 3". Most guys use 2 3/4" slugs for deer hunting. The 3" shell has some advantages when it comes to steel shot for geese. For ducks-----2 3/4" work just as well. CB
  6. Somewhere over in eastern KS. Near Manhattan. Going to rent a cabin @ tuttle lake. CB
  7. Would you shoot a treed mtn lion? How about a raccoon? The hunt & the trill of the chase is what it's about. Killing is secondary. Try a hunt with hounds-----a bear can run forever----thru thick & thin. A cougar will take you thru rock ledges, cliffs, etc. Both are hard to keep up with the hounds. CB
  8. Rhino---I thought you would be headed back over to the King Ranch. CB
  9. A friend of mine a tankless hot water heater----he (his wife) loves the endless hotwater when doing dishes, kitchen work etc. Me---I not sold on the idea-----they cost a pretty penny----no so sure a regular tank & blanket isn't the way to go. Pay back is a long time on them. For me when my current gas tank goes out---I going to replace with another gas 40 gallon tank. CB
  10. That's a good one. My football team was losing at halftime----so I got up off the couch & put up my outdoor Christmas lites. Must have been good Karma cause the Steelers came back & beat them Cowgirls. CB
  11. OK, for some reason I was thinking it's 1/1----CB
  12. What is the WY deadline for elk appliciations? CB
  13. It's that time of year---planning out of state hunts. I'm going to Kansas for an Eastern, 1st weekend in May. That will hopefully be 3/4's of the slam for me. Plus my Colorado Merriam's hunt. Someday, I'll go to Florida to complete the slam. Hope about you?
  14. Sometimes there is poetic justice. I had my stuff load in the truck the nite before I was going on an Oryx hunt in NM. Loaded the truck @ 10PM---planned on leaving at 5AM. Make a long story short, thieves broke in the truck---took my 30/06, spotting scope & bicno's. I had the serial # to the gun----reported it stolen. About 2 months later a car overturned on the hiway killing 2--18 year old boys. They parents came up from NM to clean out the trailor they rented. Landlord checked out the trailor a day later to geive back the security deposit---found my rifle behind a closet door. Called the police & I got it back. I bought that rifle when I was 15 back in 1971. It's been on every hunt. Lots of memories. I feel kind of bad for the kids----but not really. I really feel for their parents-----had top bury a son & find out he was a thief. CB
  15. It should be fun come next elk season. I'm going to take a young hunter up to my camp & hopefully show him how to hunt elk. I took his grand-father's 30/06 to the gun smith today. It's been in closet for over 30 years-----just want to make sure it's still OK to shoot. The kid's granddad knew what he was doing---it's sportized 03 Springfield with a Weaver side mount. Glass is a 4x Leupold. It should be fine-----but Dang that thing is HEAVY. Plan on many trips to the range this coming summer. CB
