  1. You will be fine on your poundage, believe me I've been in your boat with having two shoulder surguries and elbow surgery. I had each of my surguries scheduled in January so I would be up to par by the time hunting season hit. With my first shoulder surgery on my left shoulder, I was able to hold full poundage I hunted with when I started shooting again. On my second surgery on my right shoulder and elbow, I lowered the poundage down to 52 pounds and began to shoot. I couldn't shoot with the 2nd surgery for 6 months, so starting out at 52# in August and got back up to 67# by September. Take your time and don't push it, it'll come around for you.
  2. well good luck to you on the turkey hunting, its a blast to kill one with a bow and I've done it once. I've got a circuit shoot this weekend, so I'll be on the 3-D course and hopefully getting a higher score this time around. So I can drop the lower score from the first time I shot this course. good luck to you Tyler and I'm sure your Dad will be there as well.
  3. We had another circuit shoot this past weekend, it started out a little rough by getting a 5 on the 2nd target. I shot a ton of 8's (9)as well but still made some ground back up with 12's (7). My final was a 241 on 25 targets, it was a good day and it wasn't. :1eye:
  4. A guy on AT has 2008 ROSS Cardiacs New In Box for sale at 285.00 tyd. These are great bows, I've got four of them in the exact same bow and these fit all your specifications you listed.
  5. I would suggest going with what broadead works well withyour set up. Depending on the poundage your pulling will most certainly help determine the broadhead you might want to get. Mechanicals need the energy and speed to make them perform to their optimum. Most fixed blades are cut on contact and work well with most set ups. The only problem is, finding out whcih one will work with what you are currently shooting. I would suggest trying out several different heads and going from there. On a personal opinion, I use Muzzy 75 grain heads and love them. I've shot Muzzy's for 18 years now and have had great success with them.
  6. Congrats to you! I've tried and tried for years but have never gotten a Robin Hood. I think if I ever get one that i'll frame it. LOL
  7. Great shooting Tyler and a big Atta boy for putting it on Dad! LOL I took Hammer (my son) with me today, he had to move back to the yellow stake today and it ate his lunch. Myself, I shot like a dog today. Ended up with a 230 on 25 targets, I shot four 5's, four 8's, four 12's, and the rest 10's. My five are just eating my lunch, I'm just glad it wasn't a circuit shoot today.
  8. This one 98% of the time and AT the other 2% for the classifieds.
  9. I time all of my bows and usually have great success with it, they can be a pain from time to time though. There is just a lot to remember when doing all this, you have got ATA, and the tiller to worry about as well. Also, there is cam lean with replacing the string, if you get all three of these in first, then the timing shouldn't be so hard. Adjusting your peep afterward, I just separate the string until I get the rotation right for me at full draw. You are correct about twisting the string to do it and you will just fight timing if you do that.
  10. The forums are the same, its the names that keep changing. I've been here for almost 10 years now and still enjoy it.
  11. I'm really looking forward to this weekend, I haven't had a shoot in two weeks and its driving me crazy. LOL I just hope the weather is still pretty for the shoot.
  12. COTTON BALL-That is the other thing I was trying to think of, it isn't the TP! DUH The cotton ball works like a charm, I had such a brain cramp on that one. Thank you Bob.:toot:
  13. The pen is mightier than the sword! Clubs around here, you do not score your own card. If it's a circuit shoot, there is supposed to be someone in the group that isn't from the same club shooting with you. There are two cards, two score keepers,, and all shooters must be at the target during the arrow removal and scoring.
  14. You can take some regular toilet paper or soft cloth, rub it up and down the shaft. It'll snag on any abrasive area and should tell you were they are splintered. If you can't find it anywhere, I'd retire them and save you a lot of pain and agony. Be safe, not Sorry!
  15. It truly takes a desperate individual to go to these extremes just to make a name for themselves but like you said it everywhere and that is sad. I'd love to take a camera on the course and get some pictures of my son and me shooting, it is a great tool for telling on your shootin gform as well, especially on sloped shots and standing on banks or hills.
  16. I ususally pace myself on the amount of arrows that I shoot which ranges from 50 to 100 when I am down at my range. I started out shooting only three arrow groups this year and am now up to 12 arrow groups, which I will shoot 4 to 6 groups or more. When I said I pace myself, I give my arms a rest between groups being shot so not to change my form from tired muscles. I shoot alot by myself so I take my time.
  17. Not to get to far :offtopic:but, they can be used as a tool for cheating. yes, it happens and there are individuals that will do it just to win a shoot. Scenario, one person shoots the first day of a shoot taking pictures on some of the tougher shots and getting distances. Low an behold, their best friend is shooting the next day and has all ready seen most of the course before getting on it. We've even caught individuals going onto a course a day or two before the scheduled shoot days and laser range every target writing the distances down somewhere on the stake they are shooting from. It toatally amazes me the extent that people will go to just to get a win or recognized.:jaw:
  18. No problem, and yes jusdging distances do help on your woodsmanship. That is a great analogy for that and it helps greatly in the heat of a moment if a deer poses a shot from somewhere you haven't ranged to from your tree. ASA has gone to some shoots that are known distance shoots but not totally. I'm sure there are some clubs around your place that are going by the regulations of ASA or IBO. Good luck to you and shoot well.
  19. Rules will range from state to state on local clubs, but clubs participating in any type of circuit, ASA, or IBO will have strengant rules to follow. Ranges finders are a major No-No, binocs are limited to use of 10X50 power being the limit on magnification, my circuit I shoot here in Western NC. We can't use camera on the course, either. Range finders are not allowed for the meer fact of the targets are set at "unknown" distances and yardage judging is a big part of shooting these tournaments.
  20. That is smoking and your very close on the grains per pound for IBO standards, just be careful on being so light. Do you not have limits on speed for tournaments in your area? The reason I ask, is most clubs generally set rules in the standards of ASA at 280 fps with a 3% margin of error between chrono allowing up to 288 fps. If your shooting IBO clubs then you are good to go. Shoot well and straight!
  21. Those two accessories you are thinking of would primarily be up to you. the long stablizer will hold your bow steadier as for the target sight, if you are going with an adjustible sight. Make sure you are spot on with your yardage, fixed pins you can fudge a little. Now, for my tourney set up. ROSS 2007/2008 Cardiacs 60# /30" draw Extreme Sights .019 pins 5" Doinkers Golden Key Premiers Goldtip X-Cutters/Ultralites Both shooting 282/284 fps
