  1. Well, here we go again. I agree a lighter arrow will lose energy faster BUT if its is starting out with more energy than a heavier arrow. Depending on how much, mind you. Then even though it still loses more energy it's still got more energy than the heavier arrow when it hits the target. Physics or not, I could care less about it. I have done this with the same setup, two different arrows weighing different, shot at the same speed all the way out to 40 yards through a chrono and the lighter arrow still had more energy than the heavier but the heavier had lost less. Try it some time, physics don't play a whole into it, just accuracy when you are shooting through a chrono at 40 yards.:jaw: Swampy, if you hit a pig with a sharp broadhead with a 60 pound draw bow, you definately kill it and should get a pass through. I'm sure the K.E. police will correct me on this.:nono:
  2. Burris 2X7X32 I've got one on top of my G2 Contender in a 44 mag http://www.natchezss.com/Category.cfm?contentID=productDetail&brand=BU&prodID=BU200279B&prodTitle=Blemished%20Burris%202-7x32%20Handgun%20Scope%20Ballistic%20Plex%20Reticle%20Posi-Lock%20Matte
  3. If you increase the weight, you need to increase the speed to keep up with the weight increased. If not, your KE decreases because it doesn't have the momentum to maintain that weight increase therefore reducing your KE. I know all about this, I've done chrono studies out to 40 yards with different arrows, different weights, and all the above. Besides there are calculation charts that will reassure you of anything you might not be to sure on. Just be sure to change the speeds when you change the weights and you will see, I'm done.:pop:
  4. Because you can't get more energy without more speed. Even though a lighter arow might lose energy faster than a heavier arrow. The lighter faster arrow will still have more energy down range.
  5. Kinetic energy is the force you are hitting something with force and the sam egoes for bullets or arrows. Whether it is either of these you will not get the results that you want with out speed. Speed does play a big role in achieving KE. I agree a heavier bullet or arrow will retain its energy at a slower velocity but if you want to shoot lighter poundage and maintain effective KE of 40# or higher. You will need to keep your speed up bullets and expandibles are more critical of speed than a fixed blade since there is expansion involved.
  6. I just bought another 2008 Cardiac from a guy off of AT for a dime. NIB and will be a great addition to the other three 2007's I have. It is the same bow as the Hammer from Quest. This guy is seeling these bows for 285.00 tyd and I couldn't pass that up.
  7. Like Mark said, if they are flying good for you, I wouldn't change. IF, you decide to change the QAD is a great rest for these vanes to able to get the clearance for the vane height. I changed from 4" vanes to blazers about 4 years ago and haven't looked back. Mostly because they are very durable when shooting out of a Whisker Biscuit rest. I also use them on my tournament arrows on the XCutters Ultralites, which work very well. Referring to the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
  8. Go ahead and sight your pins in to a specific yardage, (10, 20, 30 , or 40) if a deer is 12 yards. Then it is still 12 yards, you are just holding a little low on it anticipating it dropping.
  9. I use WB's on my hunting bows, the only reason I would change from them is to upgrade to the new WB that they came out with this past fall. I was out shooting both of my hunting bows yesterday and they are still dialed in. The WB is reliable, accurate, and easy to tune-my neighbor and I put this rest through the wringer with every kind of test we could and even freezing it to see what results we got. That was four years aog and they are still on my bows.
  10. Finally, I made through a shoot wihtout a 5, we had our 4th circuit shoot of the year this weekend. It was another stretched out course with a bunch of 40+ yard targets. I shot 8-12's, 7-10's, 10-8's, for a final of 246. It was another tuff shoot but I have succumed to the 40 yard target ranges. LOL
  11. I made it home before I heard Pssstt of one opening! Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!
  12. Thank you Jeremey, I'm going to try and have a good one when I get home from work today.
  13. http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1143630&highlight=dahattok It's not a 70# bow, but what you make up in price on this, he could get limbs. This is an absolute steel on a new bow, I all ready have three of these and went ahead and bought another since they are so cheap.
  14. Double H, it was me that had removed your post due to the amount of spam that has hit the RT forums here lately. I didn't realize that RT Admin. was okay with you posting for potential hunts. My apologizes and I wish you a safe and proporous hunting season. Kevin/SS
  15. That is a great picture and an awesome tribute to the animal as well as the hunt. I'd keep the blood on it myself, you know people will ask if that is the arrow you killed it with since it doesn't have the blood on it. I keep my arrows that I kill my bucks with and the blood is still on all of them except one. That was the first one I ever killed a buck with and regretted cleaning it after I did it.
  16. Welcome to the forums! Look forward to hearing more from you and I think you'll enjoy RT.
  17. I love to look at wolves, they are a very beautiful animal. There are several pictures of them in my den, I'd love to have my name on that list and a mounted wolve in my den.
  18. Well with my shoot getting cancelled last weekend which was the 3rd of our circuit shoots, we were able to get out this weekend. Honestly, I don't know if it's me being out for two years or the equipment driving the ranges to shooting longer distances but I could truly have shot all the courses this year with my 40 yard pin. I shoot fixed pins from the furthest stake back and it's been very challenging to say the least. Men's/women's pro, Men's Open and Men's Unlimited shoot from here. I felt much better shooting this weekend, having got in some extra pratice this week. I had a couple of brain farts on two tagets for yardage estimate resulting in 5's but hammered 6 12's ending up with a 234 at the end of the day. It's a two day shoot and I don't think that will hold up for first place but should give me a good score for my total on the circuit standings.
  19. Kind of makes you wonder the motives behind his post.:ninja:
  20. Never have gotten one, I've busted a ton of knocks and in fact ruined an arrow this afternoon. I don't like to shoot at the same spot to much because it's like most of these guys said, it is very expensive.
  21. I don't know how brand loyal you are but that isn't a key factor in me buying a new bow. One, I'm with you on the smooth draw cycle. High energy cams will make you feel like your shoulder is coming out of socket when drawing and especially letting down. Being able to let down smoothly while in a stand is essential when a deer is involved adn not spooking them. You hunt enough and you will have to do this eventually. Two, if you like a short ATA bow then you've got to look at shooting a loop which I don't like, so I stay with 33" ATA and longer bows. Just a preference of mine of shooting off the string. Three, grip is a huge factor in a bow and this will determine how well it shoots also. To much palm on a grip and you'll get into torquing the bow and not realizing it. I prefer a small neck grip and minimal on the side plates. Four, hand shock should be a thing of the past with any and all different types of supressors on the market. With today bows and cams designs, it isn't hard to find a bow that will meet all of these criteria for me. your preferences might be different. I've shot the Reezin and didn't like the draw on it. Mathews has some great bows out there but alot in their designs I don't care for. JMO Anyway, shot a bunch of them and get a good idea of what you want.
  22. That would definately be one heck of a trophy. These guys are also known as "GEMSBOKS", too. Good luck to you guys on your hunts.
  23. Sounds like your ready for some great sspot shooting Kyle, good luck to you. I'm about ready to upgrade on my rest and sink some money into a good one or better than I have. I''ve got a Golden Key Premier but it's had 1,000's of shot across it and it's getting worn out. My shoot today was absolutely ugly, there were 17 out of the 25 targets at 40 to 45 yards. I didn't shoot bad as far as me but my yardage judgement at those distances killed me and my five 5's proved it. I ended up shooting a 215 which was very humbling, I'll have to wait and see when the scores are posted to see how bad I got spanked. LOL
