I tried the Rages out a couple of season ago but just wasn't pleased with penetration and drawing 67# at 287 fps. Granted I didn't lose a deer but just love my Muzzy's to much to go away from them. A hunting buddy of mine tried the G3's out this past season and WOW!! what a broadhead. Think I'd use them if a shot mechanicals. Until then, its Muzzy all the way.......I do have some Montec 100's but do not use them.

Very nice buck! congrats! I went boneless this seaon but it was still a good one.

Welcome tothe forums my friend and that being a loaded question is right. Every hunters does have their loyalty as well as most hunting web sites and even your local hunting stores. Rage is a good head and I have tried it out myself, great entry hole, great blood trails but to me the only down side to these heads is most of the time they ar a one time shot. Replacing the front cutter blade is such a pain because of dirt and maybe being bent. Magnus is another good one, Techan 3's are fairly new an reliable, I know you can't run out buy some of each head because of the price on these jokers. Try and find some friends that have some of these and ask to try them out. Personally I am a Muzzy man and have been since 1992, I've killed deer with several other heads that have been the craze when hitting the market but I just can't get away from what has worked for me for years. I've been hunting with the Muzzy 75 for the last 10 years with great success. As with any head, it is useless if your set up isn't tuned properly, arrows aren't flying right, and tips aren't sharp. Bows today do not need alot pounds on draw weight to perform their jobs, speed is key if your thinking of mechanicals versus a cut on contact fixed blade. Try several out and make you own decision on accuracy, performance, reliability, and ease of tuning. Good luck to you and keep us posted on your success. Welcome again!!!

Buck down despite windy Saturday! (pics)
Straight Shooter replied to ChrisSeb53's topic in Bowhunting
Awesome! Awesome! Congratson your first bow buck. Great story and way to hang in there on a rough day of hunting. Reminds meof the day I killed my best buck. 30 mph winds, snowing, 17 degrees and wind chill below zero:yes: Congrats Again! -
I know its a late reply but more than likely you went through the brisket, always alot of fat and minimal blood and with the dark hair it is usually black dark hair in that area. Its not a fatal hit and you may be fortunate enough to get another crack at her. Good luck to you!

Possible new kentucky typicall bow record
Straight Shooter replied to ultimaterush's topic in Bowhunting
Wow! That is a bruiser for sure! -
Good luck to you on finding her, I hope you do. That was a good choice to back out and give time, maybe she won't be far and we'll get to see some pictures of you and her.

Here are a couple of Doe's I killed on my first trip to Ohio on the 1st of October. The bigger Doe's weighed 142 lbs. and the other was 75 lbs., deer sightings were very slim and only saw one buck. It was the October lull up there, the two others that went with me didn't get an opportunity to kill. [/img]

My last chance at him, What do you think he will score?
Straight Shooter replied to cray8705's topic in Bowhunting
Not much width on him, main beams aren't to long either. I'm guessing maybe 100", they always look bigger in velvet. Still, a very respectible buck with a bow!!! -
20 feet minimum in most situations, but as stated earlier it really depends on the location, type of tree, and cover you have.
-
I know Chris, ain't it something! LOL I'll just have to keep trying in Ohio, I've got to much of the fever for Ohio hunting to give up.
-
Wow! LOL I hear ya brother! Too funny Tom! LMBO

Here is the 8 point I shot this year in NC, its the best buck I've taken in NC, grossing 127" and a few fractions. He met my cirteria for mounting which is they have to meet P&Y measurement of gross or net before mounting, he is the second best buck I've taken and with my bow to boot. Price on mounting has gone up but I am very pleased witht he results of him. I love the coat on him as he was killed in early September.

Back up bows are crucial and I have found that getting one identical or very close to what your primary is, is very important. I have four ROSS bows and all of them are indentical with the exception of two fo them being set up for tournaments and having a 7# less draw weight than my hunting rigs. They are all Cardiac's with the same sights, stablizers, same size peeps with the exception of the rest being whicker biscuits on the hunting rigs and 3D Premiers on my toournament rigs. the poundage is measured down to the same on a digital scale for each bow, hunting and tourney bows within tenths of a pound between the setups. All of my releases are the same and measured with calipers down to the .001 of an inch to match. I have four Scott Lil bitty goose's with the exact same velcro straps for my wrist, maybe its an over kill but I feel like I owe to myself and the animal to have them set up and ready to go, without having any fear of either of the bows I grab and go into the woods. I have even switched the bows from there cases so I don't remember which one is were and pull no favoitism between the two hunting setup or tourney setups. The reason I found for having the same setups was a few years back, I had a CSS Challenger and a Martin Slayer Extreme, the grips were very different but the bows shot great. However, I had to shoot the Martin several times before taking it into the woods to feel totally comfortible with it because of the grip and draw cycle (two cam versus one cam). Having bows identical eleminated this problem for me, if it comes down to I could use one of my tournament bows for a back up, only giving up 7# of draw weight but 60# is still enough to blast through a whitetail. I know alot of folks can't afford the indentical setup for back ups but it is crucial to get as close as possible for your back up because a fraction of an inch on grip and form could mean the difference between killing or wounding a whitetail or the game you are pusueing. its so nice to be able to just grab the bow and have all the confidance in the world that its is right and feels indentical to the other when in hand.

I'm glad that ROSS is going back to making their own bows. I've got four Cardiac 33" and love them. I will be keeping these bows for a long time.

Wow!

It should have told you on the package what kind of bait that was! LOL It's a walleye.

If they want to talk with your father FIRST:nono:

Too make up for the difference of 1% will be hard, with the tolerances that close on both of these arrows. The only recommendation I can gve is go with a heavier tip to get the difference back into the range you are wanting. Personally, I have shot both of these shafts and haven't noticed a difference in the accuracy on them.
-
Sorry for ya'lls disappointment in them but I am very pleaed with mine. I also have the block target 4X4 and have had it over 3 years now with hundreds of shots into it. No pass throughs, yet. I did on both of mine, buy the biggest they had in the Glandale full rut and the largest block, don't know if that matters or not.
-
I just wonder what happened to Ozarkgal, she never reported back in after October, I believe. We might have some late points to come in! ha ha ha ha ha
-
Did you get the normal Glendale or the full rut glendale? The only thing I have seen shoot through the vitals, especially on a new vital was a crossbow shooting 405 fps. Other than that, I got several hundred shots before anything made it through the vitals.

Ever hear a fox make this noise in the woods ???
Straight Shooter replied to C_Carr316's topic in Bowhunting
I haven't heard that one before but I have heard one making this god awful noise that reminded me of the movie "It's Alive" from the movie in the 70's of that baby that bounced around killing everyone. It scared the be-jesus out of me! LOL Didn't know what it was at the time and didn't care because I thought this baby had come back and was going to eat me in the woods. LOL This went on before dark and had no clue of what it was, later that morning it came back again and was chasing a bobcat out of the area, walking side ways all fuzzed up and doing that noise again. blew my mind that it was little female fox and all she was doing was protecting her den of kits. Thank goodness it wasn't that evil little baby:jaw:
