I keep it to myself unless its with someone that I trust that has his own land, and would never come to my area. I really just don't talk about it much. I do hunt a small draw, and the land next to it is hunted by two very nice young men, and they put more time in the woods than me, hence no 5 kids at home like ole D-man., anyway..they tell me when they have seen the most activity, and if it relates to my stand locations...I feel they are truly honest about it, and I will use their advise. al

Going with November 6th....only because I checked all my records for the last 14 years.....and Im in Illinois, and on average according to my records, I have harvested 92% of my bucks on or two days before November 7th., and I had hunted hard all through October. Hope this helps. al

A deer with a bow is a great reward......I quit putting pressure on myself, it just eats at you after awhile, and its no longer fun to pick up the bow. I would spend what time you could to shoot it with a bow, if not...take the daughter out with the rifle, and let her shoot one.........al

My understanding in reference to the rut, is that does go into estrous or cycle for breeding is enhanced by the sun/moon phases. The lack of sunlight, or shorter days into the does retina is what truly sparks her cycle. This is why the more Northern states go into rut before the southern states., due to cold weather, the bucks are definately more active, but I dont beleive the ladies are going to participate until November here in Illinois. al

I teach Hunter safety in Illinois, and we show a video of a mistaken hunter for a turkey, as she puts her decoy in front of her, open for a shot....so sad, prayers go out to both families, but truly a preventable occurance........al

Lots of arteries in that area.....if you have an exit hole, with arrow in hand, great chance the deer is bedded down within 100-150 yards, dead or near dead, walk very slow, and bring tissue, mark every spot...take your time, if he is not dead, he will be bedded in the thickest crap possible...right now he had to go get water....head there if you lose your blood trail...keep us posted, and best of luck..we have all been there. al

My wife is a saint......she took off from the hospital last night, triple overtime mind you....and took the family out for dinner, then said..."well, lets get over to the sporting goods store before they close to get your deer tags, and some new clothes for tommorrow" (OCT. 1 OPENING DAY IN ILLINOIS)., my clothes were getting BAD., So, drop 200.00 bucks like a drop in the bucket, new realtree coveralls for extreme weather, and some lightweight realtree pants, dirt scent, etc, etc. She woke me up at 3:30am to make sure I had dried, and sprayed my new gear with scent killer before I head out....a saint I tell you., then she tells me to stay in the tree as long as I can this morning, as it looks like rain for three days starting this afternoon.(my wife watches the moon phases, and weather to try and predict my next kill date) I did. I didnt see any deer, but had the time of my life 18 feet up enjoying my first sunrise this season, and watching wildlife. I love my wife., 20 years of marriage, and she loves to see me act like a little kid the day before archery season to this day. al

I work with some half wits....that really get heated up about sports, politics, etc..etc... Well, a guy I work with, who is either half black, and cuban or whatever, it doesn't matter to me, as long as you are nice to me, Im nice to you...I dont care what color you are. Im a tried and true Republican, hunter, and gun owner. period., everyone that knows me, knows this. Well, the loud mouth co worker was ranting because my team Chicago Bears won against his Steelers., and I told him that Im glad I didn't bet him, like he has bet and lost against a friend of mine., well, he ranted he will beat any future bets against me. I concluded the conversation that I lost money against the presidency bet, and was surprised on the winner. He SCREAMED SO ALL COULD HEAR....thats because your a RACIST...and repeated his statement screaming obscenities at me., I told him in great detail, I could give a crap less about Obama's color, Im a republican,and voted such., Here it came again....your a racist., so needless to say, anytime this idiot is losing any type of discussion, he pulls the race card on us., well, I stood up for myself, went and explained in full detail the rants of this moron, my supervisor, who is usually low key, not agitated by anything, interviewed all the ones in the break room, three hispanics, four black guys, and two white guys....and ALL of them took MY side. Later in the evening, the moron had to say he was deeply sorry to me, or lose his job., he was also told that since everyone in the break room signed statements against him, it would be on file, and he should never attempt to pull the race card again. Funny how things turn out, when you do the right thing, and dont yell back. al

I have had only one out of about 60 have a bad shaft...they are very true heads.....if your arrow was built with a good insert for the broadhead, your gonna be golden....I can't wait for Gator to tell me how they shot the way I, along with Ted Nugent shoot them...he's gonna love it......good luck this season....your gonna do some good out there with that broadhead.........al
