  1. Be sure the sizing die sets the shoulder in the proper spot. Check them with a good headspace guage. If the shoulder isn't in the right spot you'll experience excess headspace which can cause all kinds of excitement. hangunnr
  2. Looks good!! Changing the gas block is a good mod but if you intend to add BUIS in the future be sure to get a block that is the proper height for the clamp on front sight unless your handguard is on the same plane as the rail. There isn't much adjustment on most sights if the sights aren't on the same plane. I tried a red dot type sight on my little AR but wasn't quite satisfied with the accuracy past 100yds. Even with a 2 min dot it covered too much of the target for my liking. Up close they're very fast though. I ended up putting a Leupold Mark 4 1.5X5 in A.R.M.S. rings on mine. It has a lit reticle which is kinda the best of both worlds for fast close range shooting. hangunnr
  3. For my bolt guns I'd expect to see 10+ reloads because of minimal working of the brass during the load process. If I get 5 reloads from the brass that gets full length sized for my semi auto I'll be happy. If you start with the best brass you can get good life from it. hangunnr
  4. That seems like alot of work just to produce a very common case. I've done conversions but not for common stuff. There's plenty of 25-06 brass on Gunbroker in the reloading section. I've bought quite abit of once fired brass from there at some pretty good prices. hangunnr
  5. Now ya gone and done it....the checkbook will never be the same... Welcome to the world of rolling your own. hangunnr
  6. No spring or fall fling for me this year... hangunnr
  7. Yep, McM A3 stock, factory Rem 300 WM Sendero, Warne base and rings, Harris 9-13 swivel bipod, Eagle stock pack and a Leupold Vari-X III 8-25X. hangunnr
  8. That barrel will act no differently than any other Remmy barrel. The shape dosen't do a durn thing for anything but add to the "it's different" factor. hangunnr
  9. The water on the 225yd range was about a foot deep. The DNR had that range cordoned off. To get down to the backstop you would have to have walked up on the berm that divides the different ranges which could expose you to fire from those ranges.....not a good idea on a public access facility..... hangunnr
  10. When I got this barrel it was drilled for a pistol length forend. I wanted a rifle length so I drilled and tapped the front mount hole up where the swivel was then moved the swivel stud back to the middle of the forend. I like the way the bipod rides it better this way. The brake on this barrel is the Arrestor that SSK makes and installs. I had an OPs brake on a 308 and it worked very well. I've heard the JP brake is one of the best but I personally don't care for the looks. The Vias brakes have a big following and that will likely be the one I go with on my 300WSM XP100. If you don't mind me asking... Who do you have intend to use to make your barrel? hangunnr
  11. I took delivery of a new McMillan stock for my 300WM last fall but hadn't had a chance to get her to the range. Got a day at the range but didn't get a shot down range as the long range was completely flooded out. I didn't see a point of shooting at 100yds so we'll just have to wait to shoot her. The stock is a McMillan A3 with magnum fill. I like the GAP camo. This is what I used as inspiration for the paint job I put on my 308 XP100. Oh well.....maybe next time. hangunnr
  12. Took the 308XP out today for her maiden voyage.....wow. She looks good in the sunshine... For the first 8 shots I cleaned after each shot. I used these shots to walk the impacts onto the center dot. Shots 9-13 were fired in one string then the barrel was cleaned again. Shots 14-20 were then fired in one string. I'm calling it good for the break in. The load was a middle of the road quantity of Varget under a 125gr Nosler Ballistic tip sitting inside virgin Lapua brass. Other than a 300 Whisper barrel I've not had another 308 bore that would shoot the 125's. This one did pretty well with them.. A little close up of shots 14-20. This was at 100yds. The black dot is 1" across. Here is a shot of the target at 12X through the Burris scope. I think I'll stick this barreled action into the rifle stock and screw a big scope on top and see what it'll really do... hangunnr
  13. The twist rate is 1-10", Powder is IMR4350, Primers are WLRM, Scope is a Burris 3-9X AO sitting in a Talley one piece base, Barrel length is 16", Can't answer FPS never chronoed them. I will suggest getting a good brake on your barrel. Recoil with the heavier bullets will get your attention. hangunnr
  14. Nice, should be a solid performer. I've been pretty happy with loads using the Hornady XTP bullets from 200gr up to 300gr. I'm interested in how the LeveRevolution ammo shoots. It looks like some good stuff. hangunnr
  15. Yep, I've had one for a couple years now. Mine started life as a .308 chamberd barrel but was sent to SSK for a rechamber to 300WM and to have one of JD's Arrestor breaks installed. Shoot's 165gr Winchester Combined Technologies bullets into slightly less than an inch at 100yds. hangunnr
  16. The scope is a Burris 3-12X AO with their Ballistic Plex reticle. hangunnr

    Dead duck...

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, "I'm sorry, your duck has passed away." The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I am sure. The duck is dead," replied the vet. "How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something." The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck." The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!" The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150." hangunnr
  18. Finally got around to stripping a botched DuraCoat paint job on the stock. Gave her a fresh coat of Krylon in a pseudo GAP camo pattern. No beauty queen, but functional for now... Mark Penrod did the 'smithing and I modified / fitted the stock. If the shooting gods smile on me this weekend I may actually get to start the barrel break in. hangunnr
  19. Yep, I deleted the post because I didn't see your reply about not having that particular firearm until after I posted....Guess that'll teach me to read the entire thread. hangunnr
  20. When you have friends that give you the heads up on great deals you better keep them... A pard called telling me about a smoking deal on Gunbroker for this Federal 300WM brass. I couldn't believe how cheap the "Buy it now" price was so I sent the seller a quick email to confirm what was being advertised. He adsvised it was as pictured so I went for it. Got it for roughly 30% of the value..... Same guy called yesterday to inform me of the availability of some Federal primers. We took what was left in stock. The shop owner sold them to us for what he has always listed them for. $22 a brick....try and find a deal like that on the web. Gotta love it when people do good things for ya. I'm gonn try and return the favor by putting him on his first bird this spring. hangunnr
  21. The weekend of the 27,28 should be good on my end. I'll shoot you a PM when we get a little closer to see if it can be worked out. hangunnr
  22. I'm about 2 hours away from there. I'll treat you to a day at the rifle range if we can coordinate it. hangunnr
  23. Maybe it's a 25-06.....BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.........NOT
