The sight is removable from the mount. It does have a Weaver base. This model can only be used on a bow as there aren't any adjustments in the scope itself, the mount is what you adjust to change point of impact. hangunnr

Went out for the final time for the '08 season yesterday. It's been another great year around here as far as the deer hunting has gone. This doe marks #8 for the year. She came to me on one of the nastiest days I've spent on stand. The wind was pretty steady out of the east with gusts up to 25mph. Temps hovered in the low 20s all day with a heavy overcast. Due to a ice storm a couple days earlier everything and I mean everything was covered with about a 1/2" of slick ice. The weather didn't hamper the deer movement in the least bit. I saw 5 different bucks but neither of the big guys that I'd seen in the last couple weeks. I passed on a couple shots during the morning hunt as they were in the 190-200yd range. The gusting winds got the better of me so I wasn't confident in making a shot at that distance. The deer started moving about 2:30 in the afternoon heading for the nearby cornfields. At 3:45 this doe and 5 others broke from cover at 150yds from my position. I actually sat down on my stand which afforded me a solid rested position for the shot. She went another 40yds after taking the shot throught the lungs. hangunnr

Thats a great way to spend the day. The squirrel can be quite the challenge with a pistol. Well done!! hangunnr

Plain old electrical tape works well. One layer across the muzzle then wrap the tag ends a couple times. One word of caution though when using tape on the muzzle. If you don't shoot your gun at the end of the day be sure to remove the tape so the barrel can breath. hangunnr

See if this helps you... http://www.remingtonsociety.com/rsa/questions/barrelcodes http://www.remingtonsociety.com/questions/BLACKPOWDERX.htm or maybe this one.... http://www.armscollectors.com/sn/remdates.php hangunnr

Yep, that info leaked out about mid July. I rarely buy new anymore so I'd assume the used market will see a slight rise in prices. hangunnr

The drivers side rear fender took a couple dents too. Nothing drastic...at least to me...the daughter has a slightly different view on this than I do though... hangunnr

....I wanted to start the day.... Had just left for work this morning when my cell went off. My youngest daughter was all shaken up because this branch had lost it's battle against gravity and ice... Oh well, that's why we pay for insurance... Gotta love winter time.....NOT.. hangunnr

Browning is awful proud of their barrels. It won't be cheap but is the safe route. hangunnr

Did some serious NRA Conventional pistol competition back in the 90's. Made the National Civilian Pistol Team in '95. Played in USPSA matches for a couple years, shot some of the bigger matches but never really got the itch to be serious about it. I keep telling myself that I'm gonna get back to it but I may just be kidding myself... hangunnr

Here's a quote directly from the Browning website... ------------------------------------ "Silver. A shining example of performance, quality and real value. The name Browning is synonymous with no-nonsense, high-performance autoloaders having superb finish and unmatched handling. And with an easily recognizable semi-humpbacked receiver silhouette, Browning’s Silver shotguns perfectly honor that historic legacy. Sharing the same proven Active Valve gas operation as the Gold, the Silver is one of the softest recoiling and easiest shooting guns available today, delivering up to a 50% decrease in felt recoil over the competition. The Active Valve also makes the Silver one of the most versatile and reliable shotguns around, able to fire a wide range of factory loads under the most extreme conditions. Back-Bored Barrel Technology ensures your shot patterns are tight, dense, even and consistent, and provides an additional reduction in felt recoil. See your Browning dealer and pull the trigger on a new Silver today." ------------------------------- The most important part of this text is these three words... "Back-Bored Barrel" It's generally considered inadvisable and widely accepted that you cannot safely shoot slugs through a back bored barrel. I would suggest biting the bullet and getting a dedicated slug barrel. hangunnr

Actually, the 458WM is better... ....but since the topic is 500 Smith I'll address that... I've had the chance to run about 50 rounds through a friends 500. His gun wasn't scoped but that doesn't diminish the worth of the gun. Accuracy was good and I found it fairly easy to hit with. As with any of the big scoped handguns a rest is your best friend for ultimate accuracy. What use did you have in mind? hangunnr

I've installed a couple for friends and worked on a couple others again for friends.....you couldn't pay me to do it professionally. Be sure to plan the space it's going to sit to allow for easy access to the plumbing hookups both supply water and drains. Every one I've turned wrench on eventually had drain issues due to being plugged with all sorts of stuff... You'll also have to plan a larger hot water heater unless you have a on demand type unit for the whole house. hangunnr
