Re: Squirrel Contest Standings Thanks Joe. I have a hard time waiting but I'm sure if I wait, I might see something. I always see tons of tracks in certain areas. Just not the squirrels. Do you think there is a certain time or times in the day they are more likely out feeding?

Re: 1 year and 3700 posts later.. Congrats! I'm still ahead of you by like 100 posts, lol. Good luck with the hunting! I'm hoping to maybe get 3 more for my team (myself right now, lol).

This is for real and what happened yesterday. So I leave home at 7:40am for an 8am class. Well I'm driving down a back road, have gone past my two rec professors' houses, lol, and there is just one set of tire tracks in the road, leading from my one professor's house. Mind you, it was snowing really hard/blizzarding as I was driving over and everything was getting covered, it was crazy and you could barely see 20 yards in front of you. Well I see this lump right in the middle of the road by these tire tracks. I slow down and see it is a deer; I thought it got hit the night before. Well I decide to turn around and pull it off the road even if I may be late, because someone else might run right into it and go into the ditch or something. Well I drag the deer off the road, to find it is still warm; it just got hit and there is no mess! Well I drive over to campus thinking maybe I'll grab it after class and take it home to salvage some meat; I don't want to see it wasted. The only thing was I didn't know if I needed a tag or not. Well to shorten the story a little, I mail some stuff at the post office, see my other professor drive onto campus with a deer tied onto the back of his car and later, when I talk to him, find out that my one professor hit the deer then called him and told him, so he went and got a tag from a neighbor who is a sheriff, and got the deer which he brought to campus as a show and tell in butchering. In class though, he told everyone about it and said I had been a good steward in pulling the deer off the road and he appreciated it My mom hadb een looking forward to some fresh meat but oh well, lol, it was funny!!! I guess this is what happens when you area Recreation major and your one professor is an avid/expert hunter = road kill competition

Yup, today was thel ast day of classes, except I didn't have any today, just had to clean and go to chapel, so I officially went on spring break at 12:30pm today, lol. We have until March 6th off, what I'm going to do I'm not sure except do miscellaneous homework and try to get ahead on that stuff for once. Probably help my mom around the house, and hopefully get some squirrels before the season ends the 28th but with this cold weather, it doesn't look too promising. Oh yeah, my sister and I got invited to a friend's birthday party next Sunday which'll be fun; other than that, not too much planned. What's everyone else doing? lol

What are you doing to keep your self occupied?
Turkeygirl replied to waterfowler_gal's topic in Women & Hunting
Re: What are you doing to keep your self occupied? Been doing some squirrel hunting but that comes to close in a few days. Then it'll be shed hunting when the snow melts off. Mainly I've been occupied with the requirements of senior year in college:-) Fishing will start in April, turkey in May oh and graduation in May to,lol -
Re: Western New Yorkers I have been looking and haven't found any sheds yet and I would have thought they had shed by now. Either I'm not finding them or maybe they haven't shed here yet but I haven't seen anything with antlers.

Re: Vermont Hunter\'s Prized Pot\" Wow, beautiful work!

Re: NY state turkey hunters I'll probably start in April, maybe late March since I'm looking at hunting state land this year. Woodsman, NY's season is May 1-31, hunting time sunrise to noon.

Is such a pain in the butt, lol. Does anyone else in college ever have tests and papers due before they can go on break? I have a week long spring break starting Friday(woohoo) but I have to get a bunch of reading doen that is on reserve in the library, a paper on Performance Enhancing Substances due Thursday, a test on Thursday, and a few small papers due after break. Whew.....I'm hoping to weather gets nice so I can do some squirrel and shed hunting though for several days!

Re: What\'s your turkey hunting method? Good reply Strut10,lol, I like that! Well I personally try to find where a gobbler roosts the night before then set up on him in the morning; but that hasn't happened for along time. This year I'm looking at hunting some state land with some luck hopefully. If a jake comes in, it's down:-) If it's a gobbler, better yet, lol.

Re: Squirrel Contest Standings I have one class cancelled all next week, and the weather is going to get nice at the end, not to mention I have a week long break starting the 25 of February so maybe I can get 3 more to make the 5 squirrel contest limit. Good luck squirrelhunter; they can be tricky in the winter. Do you have any tips that help you squirrel hunt in the winter?

Re: What I got for my b-day Oh yeah, the cake is chocolate with this filling which is kind of like chocolate pudding; the best part is it is all homemade by my mom from scratch!:-)

So if anyone of you wanted to know what I received for my birthday. Well my H.S. Undertaker choke tube came in the mail today, so did BucknRut's videos that he traded me I also got some fishing flys from Andy; we fish with them sometimes on a regular bait casting pole. I also got a Pat McManus book (he's this awesome, humerous outdoor writer) and a pair of Hi-Tec multi-terrain shoes from my mom which will be nice for the outdoors and hopefully my possible internship at a state park. Oh, I also got a bird toy for my parakeet from my sister along with a little Breyer model cat that looks like my real cat,lol It's been a great day; the cake is still to come. Oh, I forgot to mention that today is also MY SISTER'S Birthday!! We are twins incase you didn't know

Re: WONDERFUL Cute daughter:-) That is sad to hear. My bedroom is right next to some big maple trees and hearing the wind howl this morning, I was hoping nothing would fall on me. I hope things work out. Car's are replaceable, people are not.

Re: We need to stick together on this one!!! Not to start anything here and maybe I'm wrong, but I think hunting does have an ethical and unethical side and in my opinion, canned hunts, with fences in the backround just isn't how hunting was meant to be, nor how God meant us to hunt. I think different people have different opinions and it is good for there to be someone looking at the ethics of canned hunts and they aren't necessarily bashing hunters in general, just maybe how some hunters hunt. It's just my 2 cents...
