First of all I am happy about my 3 for 3 shooting. As you all know I got a rabbit last Friday and a pheasant on Saturday. Well last night I went out in your woods to stomp some brush for rabbit and in about 15 minutes of hunting, I got a rabbit! That is 3 shots and 3 kills for me now The other thing I am happy about is I was looking up my grades as they are suppose to be posted today and I got an "A" in Backpacking and a "B" in my one recreation class, the only class I was not doing well in because of the professor. He didn't teach well and his tests sucked but I got a B! Now I just have to wait for the rest of my grades but it is looking like a really good semester so far!

Re: PA hunters is it a good thing or a bad thing? Well I live in NY so I don't know much about PA game management but I ditto what bowhunter 56 says. The deer where I hunt(and live) get shot at all the time when it is shotgun season because our neighbors get a ton of people together, surround the fields, and push the deer out of the woods then shoot at them running flat out across the fields and they don't have scopes on their guns even! Deer are getting smarter I agree. Andy and I will do 2 person drives but we don't take shots at running deer across the fields, we wait for a good, close shot. I heard somewhere that there are more middle aged/older hunters than youth hunters these days and that is a said thing because more kids should be out in the woods hunting. Near the end of the season a few weeks ago, I was out trying to fill my buck tag when the neighbors did a drive in front of me and shot at does running across the field. I met Andy on the other side of the property as he was going to try to push some deer towards me and when we were walking out, we found deer tracks with small specks of blood from a doe the neighbors had shot! We followed it but it was not a heavy trail, just pin head size specks but that goes to show how shooting at running deer does not gurantee a dead deer!

There are some deer left in NY after all...
Turkeygirl replied to western NY bowhunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: There are some deer left in NY after all... I know there are deer still here, in 9N at least. I saw a deer while out small game hunting the other day and also deer tracks. Can't wait for the shed season to start. -
I was thinking, we have contests for turkey and deer and photographs, why not have a shed antler contest, by photo? Maybe a category for the biggest/best shed you find during the 05' season and a category for the best "as it lays" photo andm aybe categories for the best typical/non-typical shed.... Each person could maybe submit one photo in each category and the contest end by a certain date, like June or something. I don't know what you could do prize wise though if we actually had a contest and had prizes, I could maybe do a drawing of the shed for the winner of each category or one of the categories.(I have gotten pretty good at drawing sheds, I could always post a photo of a drawing). Maybe this idea sucks but I thought it might be fun. Any opinions?

Re: between a rock and a hard spot From another female hunter, you go girl! I feel bad for your situation, that sucks alot. We have neighbors who have done something at least every year that somehow either breaks a law or is just plain unethical and dangerous. It ish ard because Andy(dad, kind of) is like your husband and we also figure God will deal with the neighbors. If we reported the neighbors or even went to their door, we are afraid of the repercussions as the neighbors are not very nice people to begin with. Anyway I admire your persistance and good luck to you! Women are allowed to make their own decisions:o)

Re: What did Santa bring ya for Christmas.... There is no Santa Well we didn't do a whole lot this year considering we got a new computer at home(which has so many problems it isn't funny) and now we have a new dishwasher coming because the other one died. I think this may be a first I didn't get anything hunting related but WWH's gift hasn't come yet WEll I got a cd from my sister (I actually have a copy of it but not the actual cd so it was still all good ) Ummm a set of flannel sheet(with bears and fish and trees on them), a pair of hiking socks, candy (duh!), some bath stuff like towels that my mom sewed deer material on, a horse ornament, mom's friend gave my sister and I a gift certificate to a local feed supply, some other things I can't remember, and a pheasant! (lol)

Well people, I gave God some thanks for this. I'm messing around the house, watching a movie with the family when the dogs are barking their heads off on the back porch. I went to look incase it was a rabbit since I was planning on hunting rabbits in our woods. I look and I see up on our hill something move. I think maybe it is the pheasant that was in our woods a week ago so I look through the binocs and sure enough it is a pheasant! I grab my shotgun, some shotshells, and put on a camo jacket and my gloves (I am wearing purple sweatpants by the way, lol) Well I go up and follow the tracks of the pheasant as it goes down along the creek through really thick brush. I finally stop and look around below this bank and I hear a rustle in front of me. I see something move in some goldenrod about 15 yards from me and I first think it is a small bird until its head and neck come out, it is the pheasant! BOOM! I nail it in the head and I have officially bagged my first ever pheasant! So we will be having pheasant in the next day or so! Woohoo! I told mom Merry Christmas! I did get a photo but I dunno if it is Realtree or our computer being a slow pain but I'll try to get photos up soon!

So what did you all do today on the eve of Christmas? Well after helping my mom in the kitchen and around theh ouse this morning, I went in search of rabbit/squirrel/grouse/pheasant with my shotgun. My mom had to take a few things to her Amishy friend so I got dropped off where I wanted to begin my hunt which is in a small, square patch of woods which holds some good rabbits. In about 10 minutes I bagged a rabbit! Of course I would of preferred not to shoot it all in theb ack legs but with a rabbit running, it is hard to do. Anyway I didn't see any grouse/squirrel/pheasant but I did see tons of turkey tracks and saw a couple glimses of the turkeys as the ran off. I actually encountered 2 different groups so there are still turkeys around! I did see alot of fox/coyote tracks so I want to get out and thin their population I believe dinner should be soon, I hope because I'm hungry! It is ham, mac and cheese (homemade, not from the box, lol) and I can't remember what all. May everyone have a safe and wonderful Christmas and keep in mind who we are really celebrating

You were right, lol, I'm addicted to them! I still can't believe I was in the Adirondacks High Peaks in October on that backpacking trip I went on. The scenery is so much different than down in western NY. I was looking through my photos last night because I sent 2 to my uncle in England and looking them at them is like wow. It sure is one of God's most awesome creations. I need to post some pics on here so everyone can enjoy. Of course I bet the view from atop Mt. Marcy wouldh ave been awesome had it not been so foggy and windy that you could only see about 30 yards in front of you! Yes, I think the Adirondacks have changed me, there sure is something special about them and I remember on the van ride to there, I got excited because I was an "Adirondack whitetail" standing by the side of the road! By the way, the brown guard rails are a nice rustic touch but why do they bother, lol?

Re: Shoulder Instability... Yup, what they all say! You need to exercise all the muscles there, not just one muscle. Of course if you have a tendon/ligament problem, that might be a little more difficult. I did watch this program one time where this guy had major SI and they went in and and basically had to clean out damaged cartilage and I believe reattach a tendon or ligament, one of the two, to help tighten his shoulder, although he previously dislocated it. Good luck to ya!

Re: Guess who i met at Walmart? Man that is awesome! I wouldn't mind meeting them! I saw their program before and loved it. I really enjoyed Vicki's humor on the show not too mention she is an awesome female hunter!

Re: That Was Close! Cool! lol We had a guy at college a year or two ago. He brought in owls and hawks and a Bald Eagle1 These were all rehabbed birds. Anyway the Eagle was on his arm and he walked by and it came very close to attacking my head; he tried to put is clwas in! Anyway the guy said these birds of prey are territorial and if you are in their territory, they can attack you though not very often.
