  1. Ok guys, the turkeys near my house are like gone. Tomorrow because I have just one class, I am going out probably after lunch to state land all day long to hunt fall turkeys. I will find a map and hope I don't get lost. Since I've never hunted state land, my plan consists of trying to find turkey sign, hopefully fresh. I'm wondering though, what calls would work the best to try and get a turkey respond if I was to kind of "run and gun"? It is kind of scary going to state land, never done it, not sure what it is like, don't wanna get lost, and disappointing that I may not be getting a turkey from the woods I've always hunted. Any ideas are appreciated!
  2. Re: Good Shot-Placement game That was fun even if my score really sucked, lol! And I was taking ethical shots, the game is just too particular
  3. Re: Grabbing the cat by the tail........ Wow, but I also think it is kind of sad. Whenever I see them hunting mountain lions or even sometimes zebras on TV, I turn it off just because it is sickening. No offense but to me it is like shooting my horse or my cat
  4. Re: What\'s The Grossest...... Coriander a herb that my mom grows and likes...I think it taste and smells like soap or something. A couple weeks ago while running on campus, I swallowed a bug and it gave off a really weird and gross taste, yuck! Reminded me of the smell stink bugs give off.
  5. Re: Better every day... Glad to hear from you Norm and your progress! Keep "trudging" on buddy Will continue to to pray for you.
  6. Re: My 2004 archery buck(photos) Thanks for the congrats everyone! Yes I shot the buck last week, the time thing on our camera is messed up and I don't know how to fix it and Andy didn't fix it soo....
  7. Well guys, here you go finally. Here is my buck that I got last Friday and one that I am proud of! I will eneter in the contest but if I get a better buck during shotgun, expect that entry to change. Hope this works. By the way, is there a way to shrink the photos so that I do not take up all my space in the photo album or a way to delete the larger kb photo? By the way, which photo do you think is the best and shows the rack the best for the contest entry? Enjoy fellow hunters I'll get my photo and tag photo in the contest entry post later or tomorrow as I gotta go eat dinner, lol
  8. Re: Look What I found!!!! Coll rack, congrats on the find! On Friday I saw a skull from the road when my mom was driving home from picking me up at college and I got out and came home with a nice, slightly chewed but not bad, 8 point rack! Looks like it has been there over a year but cool find anyway.
  9. Re: NY Gander Mountain Hey I need to go read to kids, lol, I have to for my class. But next weekend is the weekend right before shotgun starts.
  10. Ok, so I'm going out to hunt turkeys when I get home. I am going to check an area that I have'n't looked by yet to see if there is any sign and if not, I'm in a hole. the turkeys are not where they have been the last few years, I wonder if all the logging this past spring and last fall did something...Anyway if I don't see anything, I will probably go to this field where I have seen them before and hope something comes out. anyone have any ideas because if I don't see anything, I'll probably hut state land on Thursday. Thanks guys
  11. Re: Yes even i miss ! Woo hoo, congrats on the kill tony! I'd say that scores aroung 150 What mass
  12. Re: Big moose I dunno but to me it looks kind of fake, not offense if it is real but it looks like they might have added some moose antlers to an already existing rack to make it bigger or something.....
  13. Re: If You Could Be..... Boy tominator, you sure ask the toughest questions, lol! I think I'd want to be maybe a turkey? lol I really don't know, probably an animal that has a low chance of being shot and can stay warm and find lots of food
  14. Re: Interesting Find! Ok oobuck, lol! What you are missing is a couple weeks ago walking in to my stand to bow hunt, I found a boys size 10 briefs hanging on a branch right over some bucks rubs about 70 yards from my stand. I guess some people still remember, lmbo
  15. I just thought I'd let you guys know that incase anyone is going to the Gander Mountain in Tonawanda, NY this Saturday, I will probably be there sometime I have to go read to kids again in Buffalo but my mom is coming so when I'm done, we are going to do the usual store thing and of course I'm going to Gander Mountain By the way incase any of you do come, I'll probably be wearing this sweatshirt that has camo sleeves and a big buck on the front and back
  16. Re: YEEESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks everyone, it means alot! I forgot to mention it was a a great shot, entered the shoulder, hit both lungs and nicked the heart; no wonder he only went like 40 yards! I also found he had a deformed hoof, part of his hoof was missing(the nail part) and it was like scarred and larger than normal. I think that is why the one side of his rack was funky shaped/lopsided,lol, but it is character! He won't be fully mounted but I'm going to get a nice plaque for his rack as my other racks are just nailed on the wall, lol. Thanks again for all the congrats and I'm hoping to get the pics on tonight, the RT pic thing was a pain last night, wouldn't let me log in or anything.
  17. Re: The NY season so far Well if you all don't know yet, lol, I got a nice 7 point Friday evening. It was cold, saw some deer in the field from my stand then a buck comes out in front of me and right down the shooting lane and gives me a 10 yard broadside shot,, only went 40 yards, what a sweet deal! I might keep trying for a doe but at leats now I can work on turkeys. This buck though is getting a nice plaque for it!
  18. Ok first of all when my mom picked me up from college and we were drivinghome, I looked into these woods and saw a deer rack and told her to stop. I now have a nice 8 point rack on the skull with just some minor chewing. This is the best part though....tonight I filled my archery tag with my biggest buck ever! Of course from what I've seen on here, my buck would look small but he is an oldie and a goodie! Here's the story: I get into my stand a little after 4pm. Around 4:30pm I look out into the field and see some deer moving towards the woods I'm in. It looks like some does and 1 or 2 bucks but they enter the woods behind me and to right in front of me. I keep watch but they don't come my way. Another half hour to 45 minutes pass and then in front of me here comes a buck! I stand up, have al ittle trouble getting my release on my bow because of the exictement, lol, and watch him walking staright at me down the one shooting lane. He turns to me left and is 10 yards away! I make a maaaa at him and he keeps going, I do it again, put the sight on his shoulder and release. THWACK! H kind of kicks, breaks the arrow on a tree and goes chest first into the ground and rounds about 30 yards stumbling on the ground into a creek then he gets up and goes into some pines about 40 yards away from my stand where I see him fall down and get up a couple times then I don't see him but I know he has to be in there. I call home on the radio and while waiting for Andy to come, I get down and pick up my arrow and find a very very nice blood trail. Andy comes, and we find the buck right about where I had seen him in the pines. My biggest buck ever, a 7 point and I would say my first real bow buck because my 3 other bow deerh ave been a button buck, small spike, and a small doe so this one is awesome; my 4th bow deer in 4 years of bow hunting, from the same stand, all taken in the evenings! He is a nice hefty buck and I've got some good photos so I will try to post them on Sunday when I get back from backpacking. I finally have an entry for the deer contest, yay, lol! If anyone knows of some good, free photo posting sites or would be willing to post them, please let me know. Thanks everyone and good luck to you all!
  19. Re: What has happened to this place? Hey tominator, did you spell coom-ba-ya right? lol:-)
  20. Re: Had some luck last night! Congrats! Wish I could have that much luck
  21. For a backpacking trip but that is what I am doing instead of hunting! My backpacking class goes on its second and last trip down to PA on the Susquehannock Trail System, we leave Saturday AM and and get back Sunday around lunchtime. I'm looking forward to the trip but then I will be missing a day and a morning of hunting which is frustrating seeing that I have not filled my bow or turkey tag yet The weather is suppose to be in the 30s at night..bbrrrrrr...but my bag goes down to +15 F. I wish everyone good luck hunting this weekend and someone shoot a turkey for me
  22. Re: Best-looking trucks.....Now UGLY!!! I see both cars and trucks now that are ugly because they are this ergonomic design that makes them look totally square and more like a box
  23. Re: Did I screw up a great buck? I don't think you messed him up. Andy has shot and missed twice at the big buck in our area this year in the same area of the woods. Also I have found this season so far that when walking back when it is almost dark, the deer don't really seem to notice you as much as in the dark. Good luck to ya!
  24. Re: What has happened to this place? I kind of agree with you Gator. I still say Realtree is exceptionally better than other forums(no offense) but I see what you mean, seems like lately we get people that come in and post some dumb message and that is all they do or they register on here but never post And then it seems that all we do is say "no offense intended".
  25. Re: anyone know? Sorry KC, not sure...I've had a few odd posts like one that said " If I wasn't married, I'd marry you." I was like ummm.... LOL @ Bruce, you still remember that!? lol
